Heelers are awesome. Super fast learners and eager to do so. If you ever want a heeler make sure you are willing to feed their willingness to work and learn. Trained many breeds myself but truly most rewarding with heelers. They are intense best friends

Freeshaping is now my new obsession with my dog. What a great challenge to solidify commands. Great mental exercise for inside when it's - 15 outside and those activities are shorter. Thank you for your videos! Very informative

Yea it's very powerful tool when done properly and with the right dog. Smart, confident, independent and young dogs seem to do better with it. And yes great for indoors or confined areas aka "skinner boxes". I call it lazy dog training cause you can sit in a chair and drink a beer and watch the show.

I labelled the touch pad Step Up. It came in handy when my GSD hurt his back leg and could not jump into the car. I told him to Step Up which he did into the car with his front legs and then I just popped his back legs up and into the car. Best thing I ever taught him. He actually loves to do Step Up on all sorts of object. Its so much fun.

This is a really good channel to have a reference. So many dog owners out there never teach them how to behave. The raccoon dog is starting to grow on me. They are a smart breed.

Yep. Quality over quantity with those reps. Obviously you still need quantity but keep the reps clean

I've noticed you started using clickers lately, could you explain why? I know in the past you've said you don't really like them and prefer to use verbal markers.

I'll make a video on it. I still use verbal markers but have been using clicker lately. I think the clicker is better for freeshaping training which I've been doing a lot more of lately

@@AmericanStandardK9 a clicker vid would be awesome. I have tried clickers several times. They always, IME, cause the dogs to just go into crazy mode and stop listening.
