This is amazing, I have 1 more to add. If you create a folder and share it with a friend and then delete the folder, it frees up the space of the shared folder but the folder still exists. You can add it back if you have enough space.
Windirstat would be working on your local dp dir and will not access your cloud. So if you dont have all your clouds dirs on local computer (selective sync), it would not work. Am I wrong?
So I’m constantly uploading and deleting photos off my drop box but my space doesn’t empty out, just keeps increasing and now I capped off the 2 GB free space even tho my drop box is empty 😕 why
Can you copy your Drop box files unto a USB stick ? THEN delete those files off your hard drive ? I am a senior on a SS budget. I can not afford $8.25 per month. Is this possible ? Thank you
You can, but the beauty of Dropbox is that it keeps a copy of your files on Dropbox's servers, as well as your own computer, assuming you actually let it fully synchronize your files somewhere. So if something happens to your computer, your files are fine. If something happens on Dropbox's side, you still have your copy. In theory, this reduces the risk of losing your files. By keeping the files only on the USB stick, you're losing the safety in multiple copies. I recommend always having at least two copies of files, to avoid a scenario where unexpected hardware failure causes them to be lost forever. Whether that's two hard drives or a USB stick and a hard drive is up to you - it's more manual than Dropbox, but it can work. So, yes, you could copy the files to a USB stick, then delete the hard drive copies. Or, if it's simply about clearing Dropbox space, you can move the files out of your Dropbox, and into another folder on your hard drive that Dropbox doesn't monitor. In either case, that'll reduce the space you're using in Dropbox. I'd also recommend that you make use of the free 15GB of storage with Google Drive, if you aren't already. You can have both installed on one computer - each has its own folder. Both are highly reputable companies, and by using their free offerings together, you may have enough storage to avoid paying for anything. My apologies for the late reply!
Where should I move the files to pull them out of there and create more space? I'm recording music and sharing them with my engineer so space fills quick thanks
If you open your dropbox and enter "." in the search window, and choose to sort the files by size, you can see the largest files saved in your dropbox without having to install a bullshit program.
Why is it that no one talks about how to delete files from dropbox? Only ways to add more to end with paying soon?!!! Are you paid by anyone besides me & the view fee of RU-vid? Viewers don't waste your time and start here: 2:01
Sorry you're feeling that way, bud. Even if you ignore my various references to another video, it all becomes pretty clear if you just watch and see what I do with it. Regardless, I appreciate the feedback because I added a card to make things a bit clearer.
