My settings are exactly the same maam, but when I have to save like a 10-minite video, it keeps on telling me that my storage is full its so upsetting 😢
I honestly am fed up with this icloud. I bought storage and still its no good. I use google photos as a backup. Have always used it. I had uploaded some pics in icloud before and then switched off the photos back up. Then i bought the new iphone 12 pro max 256gb and then bought storage on it and then switched the photos back up on and now i cant find the older photos that was from the older iphones. Sigh. And if you optimise the photos like you said and say you want to edit the photos and videos in the iphone then how do we do it with the original videos or photos.
I have more than enough space in iCloud, and I also backed up my phone. I selected the optimize storage option but it still says that my photos are taking up 36 GB. What should I do? I’m very low on internal device storage.
Thanks :) I just don’t like how apple won’t backup the photo instead of mirror on iPhone. I have a 128gb iPhone 12 pro coming from iPhone 7 128gb and I just like preserving memories. I guess if I do that compress feature so it saves half of space might suffice. Is there any other 3rd party app I can use to move my old photos to an external hd and just keep current new photos on my phone? Any recommendations?
AGREED! It makes no sense. Remember though that the minute you view the photos on your iPhone you are viewing them in full quality not compressed. In any case; check out our video on Google Photos vs iCloud; I personally use Google Photos over icloud for the reasons discussed in the video.
what if there is a grey circle with 1% next to it instead of it saying enable for the photo optimization. It says iCloud photos and then the circle. It has not moved in an hour. Is this the initial backup onto iCloud or is this an issue. Thanks in advance :)
Mines saying that too it’s Definitely a Struggle to Find someone who can informa me on this. Please let me know if you guys have found a way.. to transfer photos to I cloud
@@nosirrah. Sorry I’m not sure. I think your phone may only offload photos to iCloud IF you need that space on your phone though, so maybe if you try downloading an app (for example) that would take you over your storage limit, it will then offload the photos to make space for it. I’m not certain though, you’d be best to go into an Apple store & ask if it’s possible.
Hello , Hope you can solve my query ,, I have uploaded all my pics to iCloud and I can access them from my IPad too ,, but in the phone the same photo from ICloud is showing the cross sign on cloud emoji as if it’s not uploaded yet .. But it is .. What’s your solution. ??
Go to Settings > Photos > iCloud Photos (toggle on) and Optimise iPhone Storage will appear. OR go to Setting > your Apple ID > iCloud > Photos > iCloud Photos (toggle on) and Optimise iPhone Storage will appear. Make sure you have ios 14 downloaded on your phone; it works on iPhone 6 and later.
My iPhone is rammed full of 7gb of photos - it doesn’t seem to upload these to iCloud - why is the phone keeping so much on my fone - I really only need the recent fotos accessible thr rest can be on the cloud it’s so frustrating x
So if I want to free up my photos and free up my I cloud. I should download from I cloud to a storage device then delete from I cloud which should delete also from my iPhone?
That’s exactly what it means it will not sync anymore until you turn it back on but whatever you deleted will update too and will delete on icloud as well

@@sandigogo it worked for me. You need to turn off icloud photos, your mobile and then turn it back on. It will probably work. It might take a few days to update depending on how much space your photos take. Scroll down completely in “recents” photos to view your update status. Hope it helps
@@isabellaa2004 you’ll have to go to settings, photos and disable icloud photos. BUT i guess there should be enough space on your phone in order to download the original version back from icloud.
honestly ive had this issue for 3 years. Why Apple iPhone wont just save every photo and screen shot only to iCloud not phone when you've paid for 1TB I don't know. let me know when you find out please.
How many devices are you using for your icloud storage and what is the combined storage on these devices? Also you can manage your iCloud Backup storage; Go to Settings>your Apple ID name>icloud>Manage Storage> Backup and check to see how much iCloud storage is remaining. Then look at managing what gets backed up (1). turn off any apps that you don't need to backup, (2). select icloud storage to see how much each app is requesting for storage; you might find Whatsapp or iMessage particular is taking a lot of unnecessary storage. Also if you are using a Family Plan; make sure no one else is hogging the storage!
You can’t ‘watch’ a photo. But I believe the answer to your question is no. A small version of each photo would still be there and it will show you the larger one if you tap on it.
Hi ! You will still see the photo in your photo library but they will now be saved with a 'lower resolution' as 'thumbnails' of the original pictures. To view the pictures in full resolution you'll need to copy them from your iCloud. Hope this answers your question. Best of luck !!
Question so if I put optimize the photo does that mean when I watch the video or the photo I’m looking at isn’t fully res & i can’t send full res just the regular way just by share and imsg or do I need to send my iCloud link?
Hi ! I f you go to the iPhone storage in the phone settings, you will see the 'Enable Optimise' option and once you click on that the photos will automatically go to your iCloud and be saved at with the original resolution. Once this is done, go back to recheck you iPhone storage and it should increase once the photos have been transferred to your iCloud.
I have 13.5.1 version. I have purposely not upgraded. But mine does not have the optimize feature. Is this truly the reason why? P.S. I can’t even upgrade anyway because I don’t have enough storage space! 🤣
the “optimise photos” button doesn’t even show up on my phone. i have 1,000 photos but it takes up 35gb. ive tried everything and i don’t know how to fix it.
@@princessnichole4007 mine was like that for like 2-3 years but now mines is fixed. i just spent 99¢ for extra storage and while I had extra storage, i backed up my phone and then restarted it.
If I want to edit a photo on Snow or insta, is there a way to download only one of the optimized photo, so it’s physically stored on your phone without having to download all?
I don’t know what you mean by ‘pitched’, but are you on a paid plan for iCloud storage? Because the free option only gives you 5GB, so it won’t upload all your photos unless you pay more.
Smh it makes no sense because you can’t change your storage that comes with your phone but they claim to give you more storage when you pay for iCloud. It’s pointless really. Icloud just holds what’s already in your phone and you can’t even delete it or copy it into iCloud because it will be deleted. I’m pissed I paid for iCloud storage thinking it will extend my phone’s storage space. Does anyone know how to safely save the photos before risking removing it from my phone permanently?
Hello I only have a 64GB phone and photos are using up 40GB I already had the setting on but tried turning it off today, it says if I turn it on I can save 35GB which would make my whole year so I turned it on but my storage stayed the same I’m not sure why does anyone know? Does it have anything to do with the fact that not all of my photos are on the cloud? Please help and thank you.
The photos are stored on your phone as thumbnails but providing you have access to the internet, when you open a photo, the photo will open in the original quality as it will show you what is in the cloud as opposed to the thumbnail stored on your phone. If you send photos you also have the option to send in the higher quality.

I bought Icloud storage thinking I’ll now have that storage but I can’t even upload it to I cloud because I need storage apple is garbage either you buy a $1000 phone just to have minimum storage or buy a some what cheap to have no storage
Can someone help. My wife uses this technique to compress her pictures and free up space on her iPhone. She is a new photographer and she has been sending photos to her phone over to Lightroom for editing. We are trying to figure out, is she transferring the high res photos to Lightroom or a compressed picture? We are now starting to worry that she has been editing compressed low res photos instead of high res. Can anyone help with this question?
If in settings is set to optimize, on device iphone will be compressed to take less space, and if Login to Your iCloud on computer and download photo it will be full res. Just as shared link to photos will be not be compressed because it’s sharing photos that are just synced to iCloud.
