It true! The more safe you are the more nervous you get. I guess it's about the balance, getting out of your comfort zone enough to keep you flexible.

It seems that planning the future is related to seasons (you need to prepare yourself for winter, food scarcity). Languages that are close to equator tend to naturally lack future as there is no long winter (cold, food scarcity), there is no need for planing if you have constant food abundance, no need to think of how to preserve food surplus.
