When I first started cooking I just couldn't brown my onions perfectly. Some browned up quickly while others did not. Today I will show you all the possible tips and tricks to fry your onions perfectly. If you do not feel like sautéing onions for any curry recipe then use these fried onions instead. Add them after frying the other ingredients. Use as a garnish over rice, dal, eggs, soup, sandwiches, or any curry. Use it for making, biryani, korma, pulao, the options are endless. Squeeze out the oil by pressing another spoon before taking them out onto a paper towel. Please allow them to cool down completely before storing. Put them immediately in an airtight container after they cool down. Leaving them out for too long will make them soggy on the other hand. During wintertime store them in a dark cupboard for a month. I always store them in my refrigerator and they stay good for several months and if you store in your freezer they stay good indefinitely. Please strain the oil through a strainer after use and keep in the refrigerator. Use it up to cook anything savory and they give an excellent flavor to the dish.

A Master Class on frying onions, with tons of tips I never knew. One of those "little things" that make all the difference when the dish is brought to the table. It's very useful, as people who are nervous cooking, or nervous trying a new recipe that looks complicated, can do this ahead, taking a lot of the pressure off.

This one of the most concise and lovely videos I have seen in a long time. Neggative comments about voice should just be ignored. I loved this straight forward and simple recipe, your explanations were so valuable. There so many subtle things to know. Like onions bacon cooks that same way. you must take it off earlier as it continues to brown and crisp as it sits on the paper towels. I am about to make a large batch and I certainly would have ruined them had I not watched this. Thank you Bumbi!

@@CurriesWithBumbi I just made a small batch after watching. It was Amazing! We bought a package some time ago from Costco .. or was it walmart. was pricy and you didn't get much. And it had extra ingredients! Your recipe is perfect and tasty without adding flour or salt. I bought several bags of onions from Walmart the other planing to just slice and freeze dry them, but I am now going to fry them and freeze dry for long term use at our remote cabin. excited to put them on salads and burgers and scrambled Eggs!

Great video Bumbi. You mentioned at the end you can freeze the fried onions. How would I do this? And how would they be crisp when I used them again later for sprinkling over pulao, say? Thanks
@CurriesWithBumbi

Nowadays I don’t freeze them. I just keep them in airtight jar in the refrigerator( not freezer). Stays good for several months.

Mine turned out very chewy, not at all crispy! What did I do wrong?
@CurriesWithBumbi
@CurriesWithBumbi 6 месяцев назад
Did you cut them very thin slices? Did you spread them out properly immediately after taking out from oil on to a paper towel ? Fry them first on medium heat and then lower heat to medium low to get even coloring and stir continuously at that time to get even browning
@kaye1035
@kaye1035 6 месяцев назад
@@CurriesWithBumbi Thank you for responding so quickly. Yes, I do think I followed all instructions: sliced thinly, low temperature to start, not too many in the pan, took them out before becoming too brown, drained on kitchen paper, spreading them out. So disappointed.... just watched the video again and cannot think where I have gone wrong. Would they crisp up if I popped them into the microwave or oven do you think rather than wasting them?
@CurriesWithBumbi
@CurriesWithBumbi 6 месяцев назад
Do leave it out spread on a paper towel (uncovered) for an hour and see what happens. Sometimes when it is put in airtight container in the fridge it crisps up more. I wonder what happened. Sorry about that. Please do not waste them. Add them to any curry that calls for frying onions. Fried onions will stay good in refrigerator for a few days
@kaye1035
@kaye1035 6 месяцев назад
@@CurriesWithBumbi They are still out and were fried several hours ago, so its not because I they were stored too soon. I will keep them. Can't bear waste. Thanks anyway.
