I have a 4.2 GPA and I agree with these methods. This video should be mostly focused on freshmen and sophomores because it's basically too late if your a junior and impossible if a senior.
For an already graduated HS student who comes from a country that doesn’t use GPA’s 1. Invest in a time machine 2. Go back to freshman year 3. Move to a country that use’s GPA’s 4 watch this video

If it makes you feel better I'm a junior, and throughout my freshman and sophomore year I didn't care/ didn't do homework, I had C/D averages and now I'm paying for it because I have a 2.7 GPA and that won't get me into my top colleges, so I'm probably going to have to go to community college and transfer my junior year all because I decided to sleep instead of do homework. :(
Rip I have a 2.2 GPA because I didn't try at all in freshman and sophomore year. Going to be a junior and I've finally learned the consequences of being irresponsible. Would you say it's possible to bring my GPA up to a 3.0 by the end of Junior year?
I think that if you kick ass your junior year, colleges will see that and be very impressed by the major upward trend. You'll have to really commit to it though. Based on the math, 2.2 * 2 + 4.0 = 8.4, which, divided by 3, is only 2.8. BUT if you do really well junior year, the "2.8" isn't what colleges will focus most on.. instead, they'll be wow'ed by how much you improved in a single year. That said, be sure to keep your list of colleges in line with your GPA and SATs, (i.e. don't only apply to Ivies). Best of luck!

All of my friends were saying that freshman year was so hard, which is why they failed most of their classes. it’s my freshman year and first grading period, i have all A’s.
I am a middle class catholic white male who is a Junior in high school. I currently have a 3.7 GPA unweighted averaging a 3.4 GPA unweighted this is because every single semester of high school my GPA has risen (showing I can work hard). I go to an extremely competitive prep school I have not gotten any of my standardized test scores back, but I think I did well on them, this summer I will dive deeper into raising whatever scores I have with tutors and workbooks. I spent this last summer in Argentina, and I created the Spanish club at my school, I am fluent in Spanish and have won multiple competition for the Spanish literature an poems I have composed (I started learning Spanish in freshman year), and my Spanish teacher will write one of my recommendation letters. I have struggled with dyslexia (which makes the languadge thing so much more impressive) and the private school I go to is taught by religious monks who are set in their ways, but I have advocated for myself by meeting with the board of our school to be the first person in my school’s history get accommodations. I am also an eagle scout, and the head of the community service club and have won the presidential gold award for service which is over 350+ hours of service. I and also a camp instructor at a special needs camp and have been helping for 3 years now. As a Junior, I am the captain of the Varsity football team, and I am on the varsity track team and have competed in over 5 triathlons. To sum it up the two things I focused on is language, and community service/leadership. I posted this because I want to get your opinion, and I am constantly stressing about what college I will get into, do you think with my resume I will get me into a prestigious college. Also, I am looking for an internship but have very little idea what I want to study in college any recommendations for what internship I should look for.

as a person who in his freshman year had a 2.3 GPA and finished with a 3.7, heres my adivce I had to realize that me, just me only, was the soul problem I had low scores, I didn't lack intelligence I lacked work ethic, I eventually put the pieces together, made a schedule, learned to put my phone down, and got to work.
I took AP Physics last year and it was so hard for me; I thought it would be worse for my GPA if i stayed but I was really into the concepts so I stayed in the class. This video made me feel like that was a good choice. Bless up
1. Take college classes in high school. The SAT score can be off your record though colleges are impressed by early initiative. 2. Ask advanced questions but be careful w/teacher’s fragile ego. A better outlet for advanced questions may be college professors or professionals. 3. Show you can handle and enjoy college and HS hw. If APs aren’t available or someone else is chosen, look well in advance for college ready options. 4. Overmaster concepts, to sink them in to deep lasting memory by repetition, beyond class instruction, in subjects you are especially interested in, if there’s no time for doing this in all major subjects. This contributes to lifetime learning, regardless of whether you enter a particular field momentarily or lastingly interested in. The further you grow in all subjects, the more likely you’ll assimilate and cross connect concepts. from one of many adoptive Aloparenting homeschool moms. :) Having as much accredited outside the brick and mortar school proof of ability helps make up the difference with unpredictable school circumstances, and is rewarding as an accomplishment in itself.
Me as a foreigner who doesn’t understand what a GPA is. What’s an unweighted GPA? What’s the difference between weighted and unweighted GPA? What are AP classes? What’s an ACT? And SAT? Do you particularly have to be active in society to get into those colleges even if you have outstanding grades? What’s your GPA? Honest classes? Huh?
I regret not choosing honor classes now. I thought it would be to hard and I would be so burned out, but I need to start challenging myself and see what my limits are. I still got next year tho.
Yeah he does. He even says that you should take "as many honors or AP as you can" because a B is better than an A in a regular class... which isn't true universally anyway because schools calculate GPA differently
My GPA dropped down from 3.7 to 3.5. I can’t afford to go below this 3.5. I started taking AP classes from sophomore year which is a-bit late compared to my classmates, who started from freshman: they have GPA of a 3.8 above. Hope my GPA goes up as I take more AP classes.
Also recommended taking IB ( International Baccalaureate ) courses because it is a very rigorous course that colleges like to see on high school transcripts. And if you take AP courses that’s also a very great thing that colleges like to see on high school transcripts!!
@@Bloxyash23 honestly just go to a junior college to save money and then transfer to a university. That way you don’t have to ever worry about taking the stupid waste of time and unnecessary stressful SAT or ACT or worry much about what your grades are. Universities only care what your grades from the junior college are, not any classes from high school

...my school actually doesn’t do weighted gpa...our school is actually really small and still VERY smart... now come to mention it, on our grades our GPA isn’t even shown bc of the “concern of stress for our students” when actually it does the opposite

The 5 Tips: 1. take advanced classes (AP and honors) 2. show genuine interest. Ask at least 2 relevant questions per class and once a week or every two weeks, ask a "further thinking" question to the teacher after class 3. do all your homework 4. concepts first, details later. (ex. when you're studying for a physics test, don't just try to memorize every formula but first try to understand why the formulas exist, and what they can help you solve.) 5. NEVER GIVE UP

My counselor switched me out of an ap class since I signed up for all of them, we already had a discussion and I said I agreed with her because I’m kind of shy. It’s my sophomore year but I think I’m smart enough to take all of them on. I’m kind of afraid to ask about my schedule change again but I hope I can make it happen

Honestly your best bet is to see I'd you can remove all of those classes and then start high-school over agsin. I'm sure you don't want to hear that but you won't get in to any college with that GPA
You're already halfway through high school and don't even have a 1.0 so realistically you'll have to work hard for the next two years and do your first year of college at a Community College and then transfer to a normal University if that's what you want. Which is no big deal! It saves you some money lol

i did my 9th grade algerbra in 8th grade and i just got my schedule which comes with my current gpa and i have a 2.3 weighted gpa and i haven’t even started high school i came to this to see how hard it will be to fix that
Sadly, a lot of the best colleges look at unweighted GPA's. It is important to take some H and AP classes to have a shot at being accepted, but keeping the unweighted GPA high should still be a priority. I'm a sophomore with a 4.11 weighted GPA, but with a 3.78 unweighted, .04 under the minimum for my dream school. Another tip is to find out which teacher forgets to put in grades and marks them as missing, as that is why I am .04 under the minimum.
You probably will not see this comment butttt... I’m a junior in high school I work hard, turn in every assignment, ask questions, but bomb tests and papers. I take the normal classes not AP or honors. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. I study for hours on end but just forget it when the tests come. Any tips on how I could fix this?
Hi Makenzie! Thanks for the comment! I’m glad to hear you’re working hard and asking questions- those are really important habits that will get you far in life. As to why you’re not doing well on tests, do you commonly get nervous/stressed out before taking a test? A lot of people suffer from “test anxiety” and it causes them to forget a lot of the information they’ve studied. If this is the case, you might want to try meditating for a few minutes before an exam or just doing that daily. Otherwise, I’m sure you know this but get really good sleep the night before test day! One thing I do that helps me is I pretend the test is a day before it actually is and do all my “cramming” two nights before the test. Then, the day before, I review the material lightly and THEN I sleep really well. Hope this helps!
i’ve tried to get into honors classes and they ignore me all the time, finally in my senior year they add me in more honors but im so disappointed by how little they cared to let me try in an honors class
I have a feeling the 4.0 obsession is occurring with HS grads in the last couple of years and will really show in college graduations. Only 20 people at my uni graduated summa cum laude last spring.
In my freshman year, I had 2.7 gpa in the end of the year, now, I have a 3.6 gpa. With 2 ap classes, I expect to reach 4.0 gpa by the end of the following semester if everything goes ok because in my first semester of sophmore year, my 2.7 gpa jumped to 3.0 gpa. Only 1 B, and that gpa jumped to 3.6 gpa with straight A's.
I never understand how people can see concepts first. For instance, if I’m learning about, say, the French verb Avoir (to have), I learn that for the sentence “Robert and Sandra have a dog” you use “Ils ont” (they have). I say “Okay, When Robert and Sandra have a dog, you use ils ont.” Then I see on the hw when Connor and Maggie have a cat, I get stuck. I see things like a puzzle. I start with individual examples that lead to an eventual understanding of the big picture.
My school doesn't offer many Honors/AP classes. It's a small private school where coaches double as teachers, so any advanced classes would be a stretch. They do offer Honors Biology, which I am taking, but I'm afraid colleges will look at my application, see barely any advanced classes, and throw my application in the trash. There's nothing I can really do about my school not offering this stuff, but I just want to know if colleges will also take into account the fact that I had no opportunity to take harder classes, that I did the best with what I had. They will understand your position but what you can do is what I’m doing now, take online classes or go to a local college and take dual enrollment classes, and try to be as involved as you can in your school. Also there are some community colleges that let you do your whole senior year at their college and you get hs and college credits at the same time, showing that you’re ready for college level work. My school is kinda low income and they barely offer any AP classes(they do offer a lot of honors though) and this year I’m taking 3 DE/AP classes at my school and one online. Since I’m gonna be a senior next year I’ll try to do my last year at my Local community college. Hope this helped you and remember you can do great if you’re disciplined and believe you can do it😊
This may be too late but, if colleges see that your school doesn’t offer many advanced classes they won’t hold it against you when comparing your application to another students. Just be sure to take as many advanced classes as possible.
as an international student who doesn't have ap classes, IB, etc in country at all, i'd advise you 2 things: 1. study at the plainest school in your town for getting good grades easier 2. get into a really cool school with awesome teachers where you can study for real anyways, i find grades very unfair and useless. are they still matter for someone, lol?

I like how you mentioned you weren't anything "special" and just pretty average compared to some students in the schools. One question, is it too late to bring up my grade in junior year? I didn't do my best freshman and sophomore year but I did improve throughout the two years. I don't have much extracurricular activities because I joined many of them freshman year but they didn't appeal to me. Is it ok if I only participate in activities outside of school? Do I have to be involved in the school community for ivy leagues or colleges in general for me to appeal to them? I have only been in orchestra throughout the two years and planning to do it for four years. Thank you so much I hope you get to reply back. I'm going to high school. But it might be hard for me. I'm the kid that does the bare minimum. And only puts lots of effort into things i like. In the 8th grade i barely passed. I graduated with a 2.0. And i wasn't aloud to attend my graduation
William DatKKid Kind of late. But high school can be a fresh start for you, Work hard, get inspired and set goals for yourself, and when things get hard remind yourself why you started in the first place. It’s not easy, but trust me, when you’re finished, it will all be worth it! :)
I was expecting something like, click your pen 5 times flip it around click it 5 times put it down on the table for 10 seconds, pick it up and do your test with that modded pen.
weighted GPA means that harder classes give a higher GPA for a lower grade compared to a normal class; and also means that the GPA system goes above a 4.0 (ex.4.3). for example, an "A" in regluar english might be a 4.0, while an "A" in an AP/Honors class would be like a 4.5
Okay, I understand why GPA is important, but why do we even have class ranks? I mean, I've checked and it's not a requirement for any of the colleges I have in mind.
Nah, I am a failure. I don't think I stand a chance against AP students in GPA rankings, and obtaining a 4.0 GPA. I am currently in regular classes, and it is practically impossible, ridiculous how I thought it was possible. I had a dream of becoming one of the best students in high school based on GPA ranking, but my attempt was uterly useless. I got a slap in the face the day GPA rankings came out. I ended up with a low class rank, working hard over nothing, trying throughout the whole semester to improve and attempting to get into one of the Ivy league colleges. But based on my GPA, my dreams were crushed.I felt so bad when other students in my grade bragged about their ranks, and I sitting there sad, and people were comparing GPAS. My pride was hurt. I no longer care about my GPA tbh, because of what happened to me my Freshmen year. I care about passing, but obtaining a high gpa and having a high rank, no it's impossible. AP students have the advantage, I never stood a chance. Sad, but this is my story.
It looks like I'm going to to have to switch to a public school from an online school. It's impossible to build a good relationship with teachers in an online school.
I just wanna say I respect the fact u took the time to make this video however I feel your wrong in your opinion that it has to do with hard work and u may figure this out when u get older. When I was in school I tried really hard to succeed but all the teachers just didn't care and wouldn't help me until I went to get my ged. The GED teacher taught me how to do algebra and many other things. She helped me succeed so much that now I have a 4.7 gpa because I continued my education after seeing that I could succeed I just needed a small boost. Hard work is important but it doesn't always pay off especially if no one is willing to help when u get stuck.

karina khaledi Hey, I’m an upcoming sophomore so I was just a freshman. I recommend taking up all the activities that you really enjoy. Me for example took up around 12 clubs and activities. (Student Council~ Women’s Aliance and Spirt Club committee~ , NAACP, Girls Who Code, Drama Club, Music Club, HOSA, BPA, TSA, SkillsUSA, Green Club, Academic Decathlon, and Debate Club). I recommend getting close to teachers, upperclassmen, and even the principals and they’ll help you out with scholarships and opportunities. Throughout the year so many people asked me “What club is looking for officer positions?” And more. Now for freshman year I’m a Student Council Officer (Secretary), TSA Officer (Vice President) and Girls Who Code President! I also plan to start my own club during the middle of the year. Anyways after you sign up for all those club, find which one you like the most and that fit into your passions. Like Greg said in one of his videos, you could divide ur clubs into two passion categories and whichever ones don’t relate or won’t have an impact on college’s choice, then drop them sophomore year. That’s my advice for clubs and activities. Not unless you’re hoping for a sports scholarship and you’re really interested in sports, I don’t recommend doing sports or focusing that much on it, in my opinion. As for grades, just like Greg said, take as many advanced classes as you can. Unweighted my gpa is a 3.53 but weighted due to advanced classes it’s a 4.3~? Somewhere around there! Honestly maintaining a good gpa isn’t hard, if I wasn’t lazy, I motivated, and don’t have time to study, I’m sure my gpa’s would be better. I hope I could help!
I had a 1.8 GPA freshman year but I’m a sophomore now and just finished S1 with A,B,C’s now I’m in S2 and so far I have all A’s and Term 1 is about to end. Does anybody think I could raise my GPA to a 3.0??

You're doing it wrong then. All of these activities you're doing for Penn, not yourself. This will show on college applications because you won't be able to express yourself as much. Let's say you get in, now what? You don't know what you want to do in life now considering you spent your time in high school doing things for a college. Enjoy high school man, I'm a junior in high school and it flies by.
I already know what I want to major in and do when I get older, besides since I’m doing clubs and sports I have made tons of friends in HS, it’s pretty fun.
Brooklyn tech is a very competitive school (as was mine) -- I would follow the advice in this video, but also know that there's no substitute for studying hard.
You get it the same way in high school. Understand what you are learning, refresh yourself and working hard are the two ways to get yourself a better grade.
