Welcome to the online bartending course mini-series: how to get a job. This is part 4 of 4 that will cover arguably the most important information for any new bartender; what you actually have to do to get a job. In this mini-series I outline a system that if you work it, will work for nearly anyone with any level of experience to get you started in your bartending career.
This episode will cover how to take everything you've learned up to this point, which should start to get you some phone calls for interviews, then preparing for and nailing the interview so you can get the job.

Wow this is gold man. I've had 4 interviews, learned some perspective from each one. Delivering outgoing enthusiasm was not one of them. You saved me like, at least 3 interviews with this lesson. And there's plenty more in here. Awesome video

This was truly a gift from The Lord Jesus! So much to compliment here but I loved how you say “us” makes it feel like we’re not alone in this search which can be intimidating. Also your voice and overall personally is so perfect for this, very comforting when your nervous . Thank you Jason!

Hi, Bartending Pro. In the next few weeks i'm gonna start a course of bartender, but all your videos are almost like advanced or professional curse level, i need some basic stuff. I'm new viewer.

ANYONE is well within any information on this channel, regardless of lack of experience. Yes, this is after you've practiced and taken a few steps to prepare, but even from a dead start, could literally be in to this point in my material within weeks, A week if you're ambitious. I link to my playlists in every video description, start watching the bartending basics (ru-vid.com/group/PLC6lnUHH0orsbC5rgHtMag0GRqL5cXSe2) and working bartender (ru-vid.com/group/PLC6lnUHH0orux-zkw87YVLhKvnM1FUYE7) playlist videos. And forget about trying to memorize drink recipes for now... get to the main drinks later (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-X9dA_clQljM.html)

Hi, Jason great vid! i'm a hotel and restaurant student just graduated last year, i always work and train as a Front Office Staff. cuz in Thailand speaking ENG good is kinda rare and needed for Front Office Staff, but i always know that when i was studying in hotel and restaurant of all the Practical Theory i liked bar-tending the most, so i'm stepping out of my comfort zone to try what i really like, your vids are very something to me, i just send my resume to 4 hotels last 2 days, waiting for the good news. i'm kinda nervous cuz i only have Practical Theory in bar-tending for 2 months like 3 years ago, i hope that's good enough for my resume,

How do you keep following up at bars without seeming annoying and needy? What kind of things should be said at these follow-ups?

Got to be careful with this though. One of the problems I ran into after buying the course, was that I was coming across as "too smart" and "too knowledgeable" in the interview so I wouldn't get hired, dumb it down, act like an idiot, it will increase your chance of getting hired exponentially, especially if it is run by a small, medium or chain operator. Bar managers want someone, just barely smart enough to make the drinks, but dumb enough to not steal their business plan.
@meganchristian4968
@meganchristian4968 7 лет назад
I think this is bad advice. Nobody is going to steal a business plan because it takes a lot of effort and a lot of money to open and run a successful business, ESPECIALLY in the restaurant/hospitality industry. I guess it may depend on where you live and what type of establishment you're applying to, but no bar manager I've ever met would want someone stupid interacting with their customers.
@hernandayolearyallda

I am guessing you are either really old or really young. People steal business plans all the time, remember twin peaks? With interest rates being so low and capital so readily available, there honestly has never been a better time for workers to be better positioned to basically steal a business plan. That and with everyone having camera phones they can just take picturesof all your goods, and get in touch with your suppliers. There are VCs who are lending out money to anyone with a half baked business plan. Alot of bar managers are like this, not all, but a great deal. They want dumb workers who are just barely smart enough to be able to pour the drinks and get the work done, but not smart enough to open the bar down the street. Come to think of it, most independent operations get started by the bar manager or workers setting up their own shop and leaving the oldplace.

I'm young, and about to open my second fine dining restaurant. I did have a bar manager end up leaving to open three of his own restaurant/bars, and one was two doors down from us. He had my full support and didn't "steal" any grand plans or suppliers. We're mostly going to have the same suppliers anyway because we are in the same location, but anyway. If you own and operate a bar or restaurant and you're worried about your employees competing with you some day, you're either extremely paranoid or you really need to step up your game.

I am guessing these are tiny restaurants outside of major cities, perhaps the dynamics are just different in the rural area you are living in. This is the way bar managers in big cities think. They are very paranoid, but then again it happens all the time.

So, I gave up on a bartending job because of my not being able to use my right arm after a 33-day coma and not wanting to work nights & weekends. I DO want to grow my cocktail making RU-vid channel and was interested in the collab on a video you spoke about but not sure how that works.
