Questions: 1. Why aren't you using vacutainer needle instead? 2. No application of alcohol? 3. Isn't it necessary to apply thumb pressure after blood collection to prevent hematoma?
Yes it is, this was honestly a terrrrrible teaching video.. He failed to mention that theres certain anatomy he should have mentioned! Its not just the center groove theres more too it! And if i drew blood like he did on the jug vein here in the US.. i would get fired... And no alcohol.. Def gonna be hematomas.. BAD BAD BAD example ..
@@morgankeller3125 I agree with you on all of this however, most vets do not apply alcohol to venipuncture sites before injection. Never understood this myself either (IVs yes due to higher risk of infection). I guess it is seen as very difficult to keep aseptic conditions when working with farm animals, especially when they are hairy and full of mud, dirt, fecal matter, etc. but injections do carry risks...🤷♀️
Thank you for also showing the jugular vein. In my school we focus only on the tail-- what about a cow with a crappy tail vein or an injured/amputated tail!?
How? I used a pee test that tells me my cow is mid pregnancy. The woman I bought her from said she was due in October or November. Some folks in my cow group say pee tests are great & others say very inaccurate. I have an appointment to slaughter end of Jan, but now am concerned. This vid says blood is accurate if cow is about 90 days from calving. What if she is due in 60 or 30 days, or next week? Thanks in advance!
Excellent video. Very informative. I will be doing blood testing on any cow called open by palpation to confirm before possibly selling a bred female for hamburger. Thank you.
look for the middle onethird of the length of the neck of the animal, then on the jugular furrow, exert pressure from below to raise the vein. the vein will bulge with the occluded blood flow
