Hey "Bell Grande" great job explaining the process! What questions would you ask the interviewers once "the tables were turned"? I'm not sure about the consulting world, but asking the interviewer good questions is key. Also, do you recommend your audience to perform mock casing with multiple people at once? Lastly, I'm sure you'll be due for a raise or even a promotion this year. Maybe consider including the negotiation process in one of your vids. Keep up the great content!
Nice channel, boy we have a lot in common. NYC is a huge city , maybe I should do a video on my position in a city that makes NYC look like a side order of French Fries CHONGQING CHINA
This was such an awesome video Taylor, you actually mentioned you did two internships! Could you make a video about where you interned and your experience in those industries?
I think the first question is, what is consulting. Most high school and college students don't know what consulting is and aren't usually like: "I want to be a consultant when I grow up!!"
Super solid advice! I had just gone through the Case interview process at an MBB in the fall and this was very accurate to my own experiences :) Thank you for all your videos and everything you share! Love to see more transparency in the process that people only learn in business school
Don’t stress about going to X or Y university. I didn’t go to an Ivy League and my first job was at GS in London. Be good at what you’re doing and enjoy your life!
As someone fairly new to this whole ‘management consulting’ thing, your videos are super helpful. My question is, what are some hard skills/technical skills you need to acquire to get into this field? If possible, can you somehow share your résumé? It will help me a ton to see what a profile of someone who works at a consulting firm looks like.
As a junior year business student I'm so glad I found your channel when I did! I'd love to see a video on extra-curriculars if that's something you'd be willing to talk about, maybe some personal examples or how best to apply your personal interests to strengths utilized in consulting
I can see why you're successful in the business and consulting area. You're well spoken, thorough and have a strong confident presence. Hearing about the case interview and all these interrogation like scenarios in the interview process is just cringy. I've always been intrigued by business, completed my minor in business and even finished an interdisciplinary engineering management undergrad degree (masters in pure mechanical engineering though). The process for engineers can be daunting and extremely stressful with such as personality interviews through Gallup, homework-like tests during in-person interviews, and brainteaser type questions at some heavy-hitter companies. Interesting you mentioned superday interviews....Pratt & Whitney flew me out on-site a couple of times and called them superdays...I didn't realize that was a common title for on-site final interviews. The process of interviewing post-pandemic has been great though, often restrained to an HR screen and simple panel TEAMS calls for an hour or 2 max.
Thank you soo much for those nice words! And that’s awesome. Pratt & Whitney is a super cool company! Interesting how much the hiring process has changed post-pandemic. Sounds less stressful in most ways
Wow this video came out right when I needed it! I just decided to do a career change and I'm now trying to get into consulting so this was super helpful! Thank you :)
OMG fantastic! Glad it was good timing for someone, already got a few DMs saying "where was this vid a month ago when I was interviewing 😩" ahhaah best of luck! 😊
but also do you have any advice on how to get my foot in the door into consulting if I have been working in another industry for a year outside of college? like should I go back to school and get my MBA first or is it possible to land a job if you aren't in school anymore?
@@TaylorBell So I was pre-med and after graduation in 2020 I decided to take a gap year to figure out if I truly wanted to go to medical school. I've been working as a nursing tech ever since then but I decided that med school was really not for me and instead I wanted to follow my passion for consulting/business. So basically now I'm here trying to figure things out 😅
As someone who transitioned out of Industry and into consulting with a major international firm after two years, I can say that these tips are spot on. One thing I would really stress that was briefly mentioned by Taylor is brushing up on your mental math well in advance (2 weeks minimum) of your case interview. You'd be shocked how much your quick percentage skills deteriorate if you aren't using them regularly, even as someone coming from a math heavy industry.
Awesome video Tay! Thank you for being so clear and explaining everything in such a gentle and informative way! I have one question, do consulting companies hire people from other countries as well?
Aww thanks so much Isabel!! 😊 YES they absolutely do! The whole work visa process can be a little tricky, but yep they definitely hire internationals 😊
Great video Taylor. Would also be interesting to learn how to switch your career into management consulting. I am personally working in tech sales at a startup and wanted to learn how to get into management consulting. Perhaps you might have some colleagues who have gone with that journey.
You really managed to jam-pack a lot in a single video! 🤩👍👍💪 I second what you said about business vs STEM students - the latter are in increasing demand. To the 13-year old, you could at least have said that good GPAs (and hence: fundamental skills) at school will help later with any career the kid may wish to pursue 🙂 Did you in any of your videos "leak" which consulting firm you work for? 😉 Best wishes from an ex-McKinsey
Thank you so much!! Very true about STEM students!! Ahaha you’re right, though I’d guess that that kid is already the overachiever type (like I was, and I assume you too 😂) I have not leaked that info! My firm knows about my channel, but nonetheless I want my general opinions on here to be received independent of where I work :)
@@TaylorBell You are probably right about the kid being a top 1% performer already today! 😀 I see! I must admit that at the beginning I had also been somewhat concerned about what McKinsey may think about my RU-vid channel, but then I thought in case they really bothered, it might make for some good publicity 😀 I understand though that your situation is different. Of course, I would love to see a video from you talking about "What my colleagues think about my RU-vid channel". Or make your colleagues comment on one of your videos... Believe that could be awesome, too 😉 Oh, and I just leveraged LinkedIn - but psst 🤫
Hi Taylor! I stumbled across your apartment hunt video a few days ago, and I’ve been watching through your other videos since. Loving your channel! I’m also a 20something in NYC. 😊
Hey Taylor, I know it's obviously not the path you took, but any advice for a fellow Quaker (SEAS, not Wharton, but with an MBA from Fordham) considering a career change from finance to consulting? Thanks!
Ooh I’m not totally sure the process on hiring at the manager level! But would start by reaching out to people you know at the firm to get some HR contacts probably 😊
I came across your channel yesterday and I have already watched almost all of your videos. You are making great content which is really helpful, especially for me as I am aiming to apply to UPENN (Wharton) next year. Also, it would be really great if you can make more videos about Wharton and guide people like me.
May I ask roughly where was your GPA when you applied (don't answer if you do not want to, sorry if that's too personal), and is there any hope if I am a senior rn at NYU to get into consulting now that fall semester is over?
No that's ok! The only reason I haven't shared a hard GPA number in my vids is because I don't want people to benchmark their own GPA against it, but I'll say it was above the threshold that firms usually look for (~3.5 at most firms based on research/word of mouth). And it's definitely worth a shot! I'd each out to people you know at each firm and get an HR contact to email 😊
This was an awesome and an informative video! Hopefully I'll make it to an consulting firm in the upcoming years. Here's a big THUMBS-UP for this video. 👍 And please say hello to Willie and biscuit from my end. :)
Thank you so much, so happy you liked it! And best of luck on your journey 😊 awwww love that you know their names, I’ll tell them hello from you right now 🐶🐶
Awesome vid, thank you for this. Definitely helped me get some clarity in regards to consulting as I wasn't able to gather a proper first-person opinion anywhere else, am honest one for that.
Hi Taylor! Penn freshman here :) Love your video and channel a lot! Do you have any tips on handling consulting club applications specifically at Penn? I literally have no experience and I really wanted to get involved but unfortunately I was rejected from all the clubs last semester.
Hiiii there! Hope you’re loving it so far 😊 oh man I know it’s stressful. I actually wasn’t in any of the consulting clubs, but I know how frustrating that process can be. Keep applying around to options you find interesting and I’m sure you’ll end up happy and meeting amazing people no matter which clubs you end up doing 😊
Fantastic video, Taylor! It's great that in the U.S. GPA matters in hiring. In my country, no one cares, at least in my experience. I was a "straight A" student, so I don't like it.... lol ... No liberal arts graduates in consulting? lol ... well ... Have a wonderful day! Btw. Greetings to Biscuit as well! lol
Thank you so much!! Ahah yup it definitely matters, but I'm glad other things like extra cirriculars and work experience are taken into consideration too 😊 Plenty liberal arts folks in consulting! 😊 Have a great day as well and ahah thank youuu, I'll tell her 🐶😋
Love your content. My question could be construed as a negative one but I assure you it's truly inquisitive. The term "management consultant" to someone outside that world, me, sounded like a more experienced role. Why would a company look to the advice of someone just out of school on how to run their business? I'm genuinely curious how the education process may differ to allow you to essentially tell someone how to run their business, and for them to seek you out to do so.
Thank you so much!! And no worries at all, I appreciate you asking nicely (a LOT of people make assumptions about that very topic and leave very rude comments haha) and it’s a great question. I made a video to answer that exact question here 😊 (starting at 4:37) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SddTukHCqeM.html
Well Taylor you've truly come into your own. Very impressed with your ability to engage with your fans and provide extremely concise and helpful content not to mention leaving them wanting more. Your alma mater would be proud. I especially loved your advise to the 13 year old. Life is meant to be enjoyed especially at that age! Keep up the good work! On a completely different topic: Rams or Niners?
Thank you so much Lou!! Appreciate the kind words. Ahaha yeah, I just hope that kid doesn't stress too much 😂 Sounds like the over-achiever type, I'm sure he'll do well with whatever he tries. And neither, I'm an Eagles fan 😎 What's your team?
@@TaylorBell Eagles. Interesting. Was that because you went to Wharton? Actually I'm a Giants fan. Unfortunately, haven't had a lot to cheer about for some time now!😂😂
You set a high bar in these videos - definitely educational for all and anyone curious what life after school is like. My question, though rather trivial, is how your current and possible future employer deals with your online presence? Soon you will hit a million + subscribers and everyone in your field will know who you are. Do you think you will go solo sooner than anticipated? Cheers from Norway.
Thank you so much for the nice words 😊 And that’s a great question! Lots of people at my firm (including my staffer, career advisor, and every manager I’ve worked with) know about my RU-vid channel. I have not posted anything that I wouldn’t feel comfortable with them seeing, which I think is a good rule of thumb to go by (not that I would even if they didn’t know about my channel, but you know what I mean). In general, I don’t get TOO personal on here (that’s just not my style), so I think it will be fine for future employers as well 😊 and cheers from California (where I am right now!) I have wanted to visit Norway for such a long time
Very interesting video once again, I've interned at an engineering consulting firm (aerospace R&D) and the interview process was interesting, there were some kind of group activities with something similar "case-study"-like but it was much much much more laid back than your case studies, it was more of a back-and-forth group brainstorming than something so in-depth that you prepare for at home. I didn't like my actual experience at the place even though on the surface i was involved in interesting projects and had nice teams because i felt underpaid and undercommunicated lol and that demotivated me which made me work less etc, but tbh it was just an internship and i haven't even graduated even though i'm your age. BTW on that note, some content that you could make that may be appreciated by the YT algorithm and that you touch on this video could be something like "Advice for my X year old self (14? 18? idk. 18+ probably better for adsense & CPMs i'd guess) as a Consultant" or something like that lmao. Doesn't concern me anymore but i'd still watch it lol. might get some hate tho considering the "why do ppl hire 23 year olds for consulting" response you've had, some ppl dont like young ppl giving advice even tho they're the ones that know what's like being interviewed by boomers and can talk about what's like lol I'd also like to ask if you've seen any coworkers or people from other companies that you know (or ex-classmates albeit unlikely considering ur ivy league) etc that were failures in life but got their shit together and are now working at environments like yours. I don't personally think I wanna go into consulting again but I don't wanna cross any paths and since you mention the "story" component is paid attention at fit-based questions maybe it's not as crazy as an idea as it may seem. Oh and like Isabel, I'm international too so if you could gather some insider info on when do companies like yours select internationals when they literally have ivy league right there at their feet i'd like to know about that. Not sure if these last two are video worthy but i see a lot of intls (esp. indians) in the comments so maybe this last one could make for an insightful video.
Hi Taylor, thank you for your content this is really useful. I am currently 4 years post graduation in to my work life in a sales leadership role and I have just started a part time MBA at a university in London. Can I still move into a management consulting role post MBA from a sales role?
I'm not a consultant but it looks like your channel has grown at least 65% in subscribers due to the "Day in my Life as a Consultant" video. Do you think these subscribers are more interested in vlog/lifesytle or business/consulting content? Do you think creating separate channels for vlog/lifesytle and business/consulting will be a smart and necessary strategy?
You sure you’re not a consultant? 😉 haha questions I’ve been asking myself as well. I don’t see myself starting a second channel- just hoping to incorporate the other types of videos I like making (NYC living, lifestyle, personal finance) as seamlessly as possible into the consulting content that has been taking off 😊
@@TaylorBell Actually, i'm. I'll send you an invoice. kkk I hope you can do this content integration. This is not easy. I'm happy to see your channel growing and companies reaching out to you.
¡Hola Taylor!!
Awesome video! What advice for a Truck driver? 🤔🤣😂Jking Very knowledgeable video for consulting! Keep up the awesome job putting very entertaining, and knowledgeable content! 😎👍
Would you ever consider making a consulting vs big law type of video? I think a lot of people in business school try to decide consulting vs law school
Hey Taylor!!!! You did it!!!! Thanks again for that Nemo pop up 🙂 ! (I was the one who asked about your fav. dory character) Do you like oysters? and how do you like to eat your salmon?
Hey Taylor! Thank you for this super informative video. I’m a Fashion Designer from India and I’m looking to change my career path to Retail/Business Consultancy. I am aware that this is quite a major shift, what is your take on this? Also I’m totally open to others helping me out as well 😁
Hi Mira! Thanks so much 😊 that sounds like such an exciting change, and I’m sure it’s doable! Unfortunately I don’t know as much about the hiring process for higher up positions, but I’d probably start with reaching out to HR contacts at the firms you’re interested in 😊
Perhaps you could describe what does the competition thing you mention comes down to? I'd say just being all around a versatile, well rounded, bright, likeable, hardworking, team and result oriented... book, street and people smart person, who can also back it up with their resume or... somehow outside their resume. That's my take but I'd love to hear yours as well. Seems like an interesting thing to explore.
Loved the video all the way and important things to learn to get in to consulting firms and could you share how to get an interview or prepare a resume so that it stands out form IVY league students ain order to get an interview in MBB and all other consulting firms....... and Eagerly waiting for the second part missed the dog in this video.....👍🏻
Thank you so much!! I’d say just having as strong of metrics as possible on your resume and LOTS of networking with contacts at the respective firm! Hahaha Aw more pup content to come 🐶🐶😊
Perfect timing for this video as I have my first interview scheduled this week. In the email they only mentioned it being a general screen interview to go over my resume and experiences, so maybe a little different process than what traditionally happens but I’m excited/nervous nonetheless
The client will make the final decision at the end of the day! We're just here to help conduct further research, leverage partners' expertise and in the field, etc. :)
Hi there! Depends on the firm, but top strategy consulting firms pay $110-120k for entry level (this includes end of the year bonus, 401k match, etc) which is what I'm making rn! I discuss it first thing in my last vid ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yxatKGh_z5s.html 😊
Dam Taylor!! Your back at it again with another great video. :) A very insightful and educational video. And BTW I have smashed that like button once again!! I dont know why more people are not subscribed to your channel. Lol #TeamTaylor
Taylor , thank you for the video maybe you could start a business where people can book sessions with you online to practice their case interview skills! I know I would certainly love to do that with someone with your experience prior to a formal case interview!
hiii didi . please please please its too imp. for me how can i contact you . because i want to give SAT exam for foreign universities for aerospace engg. please please guide me how should i apply for it. i just want your 5 min. please reply how to contact😇😇😕
Taylor you're looking gorgeous and compelling as always. As a global management consultant (mainly focused on EMEA and APAC) this was an interesting video and I enjoyed it and watching you obviously as you know.😍🥰😍
Hi, I am a filmmaker 🎥and my friend and I are currently doing video projects where we make it interesting by inserting snippets of other people’s videos into ours and discussing about them and making it fun. 🎉🎊 That sort of thing! Would it be okay if we can include your videos in ours?
@@TaylorBell 😂haha it's okay Taylor !! I will be surely following your videos regularly .... it's really good to see that you respond to all of your viewer's comments and I appreciate that ❤ !!! By the way love and support from an Indian😊who is currently in Dubai
(Okay Taylor good job,) Remember you are now in your prime financial earnings age range and you should diversified your income majorly. The global economy has produced certified Engineers and Consultants worldwide who can do your job at a fraction of the cost your being paid right now while living in America. (It's out sourcing to the first power) Also as you get older people usually don't get paid or have the same salary or earning ability. At the very least in America there's probably five to tenthousand people in your field graduating from college each year who are hungry for a job . Anyway keep up the good work.
I am so so so happy I found this channel. Finishing up my bachelor's in management and am going to be a consultant in NYC as well. Looking forward to binging your videos three next few days!
Hey Taylor, Fellow Penn alumni here and was wondering what you believe would be a good resource for applicants who did not major in business. I am an advance degree holder and was hoping to crack the interview! Thanks
Awesome video (as per 😉) I've applied for so many internships and placements (not sure what they're called in the U.S.) I feel like I've gone through the process so many times 😂😂 I struggle greatly with the recorded virtual interviews as the lack of human interaction is odd and I'm socially awkward at the best of times. After finally getting the phone call that I got accepted for a one year placement I was so in shock I asked the recruiter 5 times if they were being for real 😂😂
Hi Taylor! I recently got an internship offer from a big four for tech consulting, do you think consulting has better exit opportunities than big tech for an engineering student? I am torn between the two. Also, love your channel keep up the good work!
Ur videos are amazing I am also pursuing my career in finance and Entrepreneurship ur videos really motivates me to do great . Thanx Taylor 😃 really appreciate ur hard work in making such nice videos . Love from India 🙂❤️
Hi Taylor! Just started watching your videos a few days ago and they are awesome. Love the content and how you are able to explain and tackle some of the most asked questions in the area. Keep up the good work! :D
