Stream English is all about pushing your GCSE English Language and Literature skills to a grade 9. One of the best ways to do that is for me to see your work as I use my experience as a teacher and an examiner to give you specific advice. You can submit essay questions you’ve written on the Stream English website; I will then create a video where I mark your work and talk you through how you can improve. Submit your work here: streamenglish.co.uk/submit

For the quote: "Your apathy is like a wound in salt". Could it also suggest that in the long run, despite the initial breakup being painful, it is what they needed, just like how salt in a wound in painful initially but heals the wound in the long run? And that this may imply that the relationship could have been toxic. This idea is reinforced as "apathy" shows how their partner did not care, highlighting how the relationship and the speaker's partner may have been toxic.

I saw it as the apathy being likened to a wound in salt because instead of the salt entering the wound, an external 'attack', they are putting the wound into salt; seemingly purposefully harming themself and the relationship in the process

You’re a goldmine.
@materialgirly
@materialgirly 6 месяцев назад
English-ish because I’m bored: The use of the metaphor “you’re a goldmine” emphasises the idea of the owner of this channel being valuable and suggests she makes useful content that can be treasured and appreciated by others and all who need it. The idea of gold sets up the reader of this comments idea of wealth and prosperity denoting to the knowledge gained from this content being sacred and of high quality. The writer of this comment also directly addresses the publisher so that the readers focus is outer-directed and has a prime focus on the positive qualities she possesses and the compliment they are giving her. The full stop at the end of the sentence suggests clarity of the the statement being true and the words of the statement being final. The use of a short sentence emphasises the message in a short period of time and gives the readers more time to take in the information of the RU-vidr being amazing like a goldmine.

i think it is a bit contradictory, me i am a lyrics hunter, but others are rythm or catchy tune seeker. then sometimes we may get out of music need, until the moment that a tune reenergise one's soul, or drive. by the way, my bow on the pyramidal.

@StreamEnglish

Thank you! When you say 'subject terminology', can you be more specific? English has a huge list of subject terminology. That wording is typically found in mark schemes - are you looking for clearer understanding of what exam boards mean when they use that phrase?

as a year 11 student, by any chance would you say that using the words 'may', could, but, perhaps in your analysis you are reaching those top levels in the mark scheme.
@StreamEnglish
@StreamEnglish 2 месяца назад
it doesn't automatically mean that, but it is certainly a good sign that a student understands how to express themselves in an English essay. Those words become more powerful when being used to evaluate (it could mean this... but it also could mean this...); successful evaluation IS a top of the mark scheme skill.

Hi Miss, how would you be able to write about patterns in essays, this includes poetry and all other texts?
@StreamEnglish
@StreamEnglish Год назад
Every kind of text has a pattern. There are LOADS of techniques which count as patterns, but they can vary from text to text. If we take, for example, poetry, here are some patterns you're likely to find: refrain (a pattern of the same line being repeated); rhyme scheme (a pattern of words being rhymed); rhythm (a pattern of the same rhythm being used) etc. etc. On the other hand, if we take plays, our patterns might be more like this: [Character name] uses lots of imperatives to show his power; in this scene, there is repeated use of dramatic irony; the playwright always has the fight scenes happen off-stage. Pattern is just an easy way to summarise the idea of something being done over and over again in a text. Patterns can comes in LOADS of different forms, but if you see something keep happening - it's a pattern and it is worth analysing!
