Thank you so much for this video, it gives me so much hope to pursue my field of work, now I know I have a chance to get where I want to go in 5 years!
Great video Gina! Very helpful for those looking for entry-level positions in the digital marketing and advertising field. I would like to know more about job search and prep strategies for those without any exp in digital marketing and what are some the skills and courses we can undertake to enhance our skillset and maximize our chances of landing a job
Thanks for your question! It definitely depends on the job you’re looking for. If you are applying for a job focused on social media then I would recommend taking a course on that subject matter. If the job is focused on Facebook and Google Ads, then each platform has their own specialization course you could take. The short answer - it depends! Look at the jobs you’re most interested in and find the commonalities for skill set. Then take courses on the gaps you are missing.
Thanks Gina....i have always been diacouraged due to lack of experience but your explanation helped. Could you suggest how to get these kinda jobs please. Thanks
Hi Gina !! You have come up with a great video for someone who wants to start their career in Digital Marketing with no experience. I am an IT professional with 11+ years experience, working in India. I have decided to switch my career to Digital Marketing now. I am currently pursuing a 6 months PG course to have a solid base. I am going through many RU-vid videos on what are the expectations of the recruiting companies from a candidate like me. When I watched this video, I felt that you were talking to me. Your video turned out to be precise and informative. I will follow your videos to keep my self updated and will get in touch with you.. ( there will be lots of queries !! :) )
Very helpful, thanks for the tips!! I'm considering switching from IT to Digital Marketing. My own social media game sucks right now though. If we are going to go around helping all these folks with their social media, doesn't our own IG, for example, have to be POPPIN? Or do employers not judge you on that?
That’s a great question! I would say in my experience the answer is no. It’s quite different managing social media for a brand versus for yourself. Remember that a lot of people have a private Instagram account. If you don’t feel confident I would keep your page as private. One thing worth noting is that employers 100% always look at a candidate’s LinkedIn profile so you want to make sure you put some effort into that account.
I am a graphic designer with 24 years experience. Unfortunately graphic design is dead so i started learning digital marketing. But what should I concentrate on where i can transfer my skills. Time is not on my side.
Hi Fred! Thanks for your question. I’m actually a bit confused because I see jobs and opportunities for graphic designers all the time. It is booming. Have you looked into remote opportunities?
@@digitalmarketingbygina Not when I am 47 years old. They hire the younger ones. Even high schoolers are being taught the programs I use. Can't compete against them. I am also competing with Fiverr and Upworks that expect us to work for $5 an hour. There is too much competition when I tried those platforms. Also I am mostly print graphic designer. The designers they hire do advanced web design, UI/UX, React, etc. People at the job centers told me they are getting an influx of unemployed graphic designers and there is little growth. Large companies are eliminating the graphic design departments. I want to get out of graphic design and get a career where I can problem solve and think strategy. And less technical since I can't compete.
Hi Fred, If you’ve looked into it then fair enough. It might just be here in Canada I’m seeing a lot of job opportunities but that might not reflect other markets.
Honestly, I didn’t even know where to even begin. I’m trying to pivot to Social Media Marketing-Digital Marketing but I don’t know what to entertain with information galore. As far as education & developing the skills via Courses/Certifications that way I get the ball rolling. Anybody have any advice? Seriously, any feedback’s highly appreciated.
Hey Gina Thanks for making the video, really appreciate that. Would you mind telling like where to start, as you might know that lot of resources are available out there but I am unable to find the starting point. I have zero experience in it but I am very keen to learn about it. If you can share few thoughts on it or recommend some resources or books, that will be very helpful. Thanks and have a great day. #stayhomeStaysafe
Thanks for your question! Lynda.com is a great resource for courses. The difficulty with digital marketing is since there’s so many components it easier to find specific courses. Moz and Ahrefs are fantastic for SEO blogs. Venngage for content marketing. Neil Patel and Google’s Ads courses for PPC. In terms of a general course to get you started, I haven’t taken it personally but I have heard good things about Sinplilearn’s Digital Marketing Specialist program.
I did an unpaid internship but I had really bad experience. I am 25 now, recently finished my masters in marketing and just struggling to find a full time job :( I see people around me getting jobs because they know people. I have worked a lot over the years and done a few bits enough to make a portfolio (I really want to make one to show off my skills more) Thanks for the video
Feel free to send me an email if you’d like me to go over your resume! It sounds like it’s been a frustrating experience and I’d love to help 🙂 Also, I just posted a video on how to make a portfolio so hopefully there’s some helpful tips in there for you: m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ei5B4P5EXho.html
I passed master of science in information technology from India. Now I am going USA. Can i find my brighter future in digital marketing and web technology. Please guide me dear.
I would say you need practical experience so take the time to volunteer or follow the tips laid out in the video! Educational backgrounds don’t make a difference in digital marketing. It’s about your experience! Good luck 🙂
I want to try to get into this field and am thinking of starting a digital marketing apprenticeship, but I’m worried because I do not have any experience whatsoever. And if I were to have an interview I wouldn’t know what to say. I quit university because it wasn’t really for me and I’m very worried about my future.
In an interview, I would focus on your soft skills since you don’t have direct experience - which isn’t a problem! I started that way as well. I really focused on my research and problem solving skills and gave other actionable examples. I also did a lot of research on the company and brought up examples of things they could improve in my interview to showcase not only that research, but also my critical thinking!
Heyy! I am currently in 4th year at University of Waterloo and have a work term in coming fall 2021. Can you give an example of how you can bring ideas during interviews in a polite way without being negative?
Hi Tanya! Thanks for your question. You talk about opportunities. For e.g. you wouldn’t say, “I noticed you only post once a day on Instagram. You should be posting more for consistency.” You would frame it as: “I did competitor analysis of your social media engagement compared to industry peers and noticed there is a huge opportunity to provide more value through consistent posts centred around X.”
Hey, thanks for the tips - I'm looking to switch to marketing because I hate being a graphic designer!! I've done design work for mostly non-profits and LGBTQ charities. I'm looking to interview for an LGBT charity looking for a paid marketing assistant. if you'd have any tips? I wrote my own copy for design work and I run an artist side business with 1k+ followers. if any of that is relevant!
Thank you! Very useful. I have a B Arts degree in Theatre, but I want to break into social media marketing. My interest/skills are mainly in copywriting. I currently run a small Depop business (selling clothes) and was planning to volunteer at a non-profit. Would this be the best way to break in? I don’t think I have any time for anything else lol
Thank you! This was very helpful. I have been thinking about really going after my goals within the marketing field. This was inspirational and informative and will definitely help me take the right steps in my career journey.
Im an international student in Canada and can you suggest me which courses should I take to learn digital marketing ? I see lots of courses all over the internet and I dont know where to start. And also should I specify in one area such as SEO, facebook ads, email marketing or should I learn them all in order for a digital marketing job ?
Thanks for your question! There isn’t one route to get a digital marketing job, so it really depends on the jobs you are looking at and what skills they are looking for.
Hi Brenda! There isn’t anything directly applicable, but many programs would have transferable skills such as Business. But it would be difficult to get a digital marketing job without taking an online course and just a general degree
Thank you so much for this! I don’t have Instagram anymore. And when I had it, I didn’t have many followers. Do you really need to have a good following on social media? Do I need to get my Instagram back?
Nope! You don’t need a strong personal following on social media to get into digital marketing. Doing social media management for a brand is very different than managing your personal Instagram so I wouldn’t worry 🙂
Hi Gina! I am so happy to see some helpful information on digital marketing thank you for creating content ❤️ I am graduating in a few months with my bachelors degree in marketing. I am hoping to take some online courses specifically on digital marketing, do you have any suggestions? Also, do you know of any reliable resources to find remote digital marketing jobs online?
Yes! Hopefully these videos will be helpful: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7bbnGOVwAAY.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dNBXUEFB6hM.html
I'm planning on moving to Canada to study in order to get permanent residency (So, basically it's a way to get into Canada but not mainly to have a degree). Which diplomas that I should do then? Note: I have a bachelor's degree in Computer Science but I didn't like programming much, then I though digital marketing can be a better fit for me. Thoughts?
Thanks for your question! There isn’t a digital marketing diploma as there are only certificate programs! The best certificate programs you’ll find are just online 🙂
Hey whatup thank you for this informative video I was just wondering I live in Ireland and am only 17 but I have been teaching myself digital marketing and just learning and learning and I wanted to know could I get hired for remote work jobs form other countries here in Ireland as there are not many digital marketing jobs in Ireland with good pay, etc and what's done advise u could give as I'm new to the industry but am a quick and hard working learner?
Important for Digital Marketers! Disability creates a gap between the needs of the user and the information system. On the other hand, accessibility is the ability of the system to accommodate the needs and preferences of each individual regardless of any physical disability. This session explains how this gap can be filled with the inclusive design of web systems. Watch full webmaster talk on ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dUbyA8q1q0c.html
HI Gina! I found this really helpful and have my first Digital Marketing Manager interview in Amsterdam this coming Friday! I'd love some additional insight based on your professional experience! I'm also Canadian btw! I noticed you provided your email on one of those posts below so I will send you my inquiry via email :) Thanks in advance for your help and I'm really learning a lot from all your videos on your channel!
@@buuzy252 You should always try applying if your skill set can bring value to that company! Most entry-level digital marketing jobs don't list a bachelor's degree as a requirement.
@@digitalmarketingbygina Thank you for telling me and responding to that! It's good to know cause it motivates a lot. I have another question, what are the basics we should know to run paid ads in Digital Marketing? I saw in many job applications they demand " Running paid ads Skills "
I'm an international student from Viet Nam. There are a lot of stereotypes that ppl who do not speak well English cannot get a job in marketing field because Marketing will use a lot of native languages that foreigner like me cannot understand. May I know if it is true? I can say my English is not really fluent
Ellen Bui Thanks for your question! I will say that marketing does require a great deal of writing. From creating social media posts to email newsletters to Facebook Ads, it is helpful to know the language well. But, it depends on where you’re looking for a job. In Canada, where I’m located, English is very important. There are amazing digital marketing agencies and brands all over the world though! Each focused on the language of the country they’re in.
@@digitalmarketingbygina Thank you for your reply. Now I'm studying in Canada about Business Management which does not specialize in Marketing. But I find my interest in digital marketing which I really want to study and work in this field. I will try to improve my English and achieve my dream in Canada
