Thank you Petr for your nice video. You are a cool person and you seem very friendly to me. I want to go there, but I see difficult to succesfuully afford the costs of living. I have service experience to work and get money somewhere. My mind is to wait up to one year in Germany till I finish my software development studies, then go to Reykiavik and let my instincts to secure the money and the basics 😂
nice video, im studying energy engineering and i wanna focus in wind/hydro but im interested in geothermal, hopefully i can get a job in the energy industry in iceland
Hello Sir, will you please make a video upon the part-time job availability for international students in Rejkovik. And how much time is needed to get the work permit. Non-EU students.
Bro i am from india. I want to study journalism in iceland. I jave done my batchelor degree in English literature. Do students get any scholarahips and job placements over there. Can you make a video for students who want to study there. I like the way you talk genuinely about things.
Honestly, I don’t think journalism is a good career to pursue in Iceland. There is nothing to report on, news are usually “It was raining a lot yesterday” or “A car got stuck in snow”. I don’t know anything about studying in Iceland, maybe they have good schools but I really don’t know.
@@PetrHerold Thanks bro for your reply. If the colleges in iceland can give placements to various international media it would have been a blessing for students like us.
Hi Petr, Thanks for your informative videos. I'm curious how long it took you to learn Icelandic. Ps Iceland and Japan are two of my favorite countries and I'm fortunate to have traveled there.
Je lepší si to asi nechat udělat u zaměstnavatele, protože kromě toho potřebuješ i to jejich social security number, ktere ti zařídí zaměstnavatel ne? To potřebuješ pokud tam chceš pracovat
So... there is a one reason why I can be thankful for being Polish... it may be a little easier to find a job in Iceland, haha. 😏 I'm considering moving to Iceland or Sweden. The more I know, the more difficult it seems. Good luck and thank you 🌿
@@PetrHerold I got a job in Reykjavik. 😄 feel so happy, I need to share it everywhere. Thank you for your videos about Iceland, will be useful. Cant imagine livinig without trees... 😉 Okay, there are few in Reykjavik. 😁
Thanks, these are very useful, how much is your sallery paying after all taxes/electricity/ fuel/ etc. How much you get paid per month, and is it enough for living costs?? 🙂
Thanks for the useful information. But If it's possible please share any recruitment agency for restaurant. And what is the work visa process. Is it possible or what are the chances to get a job if i come on tourist visa.
Hey Pawan, there isnt really any agency for that, I know only the one I shared. Other jobs you have to find on your own. It’s also not possible to work without visa, or at least it’s illegal. And as I mentioned in the video I dont have experience with the visa process :/
HI Petr, I know that's a pretty tough question. I am from Bulgaria (EU member) and I am planning to move to Iceland this winter. I am an IT specialist and I do believe that at some point I'd manage to find such a job there. My question is - approximately how much money will I need to survive the first two months or so without having a job? Like 6-7k E? Or maybe more? Also, can you get kennitala without having a job? Can you apply for it on arrival? And is it common to stay in AirBnb apartment until you get kennitala? Thanks in advance.
Hmm, let's see. I think you'll need at least 100k ISK for a room, more if you want an apartment for yourself (I don't how much are monthly airbnbs). Let's say at least 50k for food. Depending if you want to rent a car or buy a car - probably better option if you want to stay long term, but let's say monthly rent of a car 70k. So that's 1600€ right there per month plus whatever extra you might spend. Let's round it up to 2000€ just in case. If you want kennitala but don't have a job yet with employer who can vouch for you and your income, you need to "demonstrate capacity for financial support" for at least 3 months. The monthly minimum is 217.799 ISK so you need to prove you have at least 653.397 ISK (4650 €).
@@Coyannn nah, I found it extremely difficult and almost equal to zero to find an IT job when applying from abroad. Even if I match all the requirements they listed, all the time I’ve been getting the generic response saying ‘thank you for applying, we’re impressed by ur skills but we decided not to move with ur application’. So at some point I just gave up. Probably will start applying again but it’s not gonna happen in the near future, it’s pointless and it’s waste of time.
Thanks for superb information 😇 I'm from India, can you suggest any job website to searching job in Iceland! I have completed diploma in electrical engineering with 2 years experience.
Some people probably do. But I don’t think people go to Iceland to work in IT consulting and sales, the country is too small for you to actually grow and have a career.
Good afternoon , Peter How is it going? I am intending to visit to Iceland , I can say that I know well about farming as I was grown up in a Farmers family , I was able to acquire butchering skills . How Can I contact you? .
Well this number now went down, this was a year ago in the midst of pandemic. I honestly don’t know the exact numbers now, but most of these foreigners were on benefits (and icelanders too). Me included to be transparent.
Hi there , Really you made a very good video it’s very clear and helps a lot appreciate for your time I have done masers in computers I am working as a product support engineer in Ireland I would like to move to Iceland are there any agencies that can help please do needful
Thank you Gnana! I’m glad it helped. Unfortunately I dont have any tips for these specialized positions, so I cant help here. :/ Just try to find some companies that you would be interested in and try to contact them. Good luck!
i am a USA air triffic controller with 10+ years of experience, my partner has 5+ years of real estate brokering how is it (if at all) for us to gain employmemt. we have been to iceland and when we there we liked how it was.
That’s really hard to say, these are specialized fields I don’t have experience with. I would think that the rule of “icelander before professional” would apply everywhere.
If you're from USA. It's close to impossible to get a work permit or land a job their..funny that they claim to be a progressive country yet they don't care for American foreigners...you really should of been in the EU.
Hey Bryson, I mentioned in the video that best time is probably April, but I would say anything between March and May and throughout the summer. Maybe you can find some jobs in winter but there will be less of them.
Hey! As far as I know, it is possible (mean legal) for EU citizens to work in Iceland for up to 3 months even without registration (Kennitala etc.) How does this work in practice, as far as you know? Thanks for the answer!
Hey! I think you always need a kennitala but it’s not an issue to aquire it, just sign up online and you’ll get a number basically. For three months you dont really need to deal with anything else, if it was longer then you can sign up for domicile and health insurance etc. As far as I know my coworkers that came to help just for few weeks/months needed just the kennitala and that was it :)
nah you cant you need to issue by your parliament A Visa / Passport and go back to your country to renew it every time it expires prior to some weeks if there ain't any Arab or where you come from parliament which i guarantee there ain't any. A Tourist visa is only to go for some months and go back to your country honestly i don't want to sound racist here but if you heard the guy Iceland sounds like they line ppls due to their originity they help their ppls then the ppls that born there and then want to return and then the rest of the world so i assume first comes eu then muslims blacks etc which from what i heard there is 0 ppls of such originity i mean there are a minority but not like in germany where every 2 meters are 100 ppls from turk india arab etc etc thats why i want to move out of germany f^^^^ Merkel and the president my advice is to go with tourist visa if you want see how it is and then decide if you want to live there because it aint like the warm climate you have where you live its cold all day long all year weather is nothing like there hell even in germany now is snowing at march but melting fast can you believe that i even saw a video that there is like mery christmas right now at least in may it will start to be 24/7 day until september but still it will be cold thats all you can stay as long with that touristic visa here as you dont look for work after that you need legit normal Visa/Passport even then you need to renew it every some years that will require you to fly back to your country which might be tedious work just to fly back to Iceland unless you are lucky and have a parliament of your country there which i believe that must be impossible lol
@@PetrHerold thank you so very much for your kind gesture. Q1. Is there any job possibilities that you are aware about in iceland (or any Nordic country in your knowledge) which will provide a job (preferably in the medical field as I am currently doing a masters in hospital administration)to a non EU citizen? Q2. Do the job opening chances increase if I do a PhD from any of these countries if I am outside EU. I am from India by the way, and loved your vlog about the farm and the nature is really outstanding. Happy earth day BTW. Cheers.
Sorry Sannidh, but just as I said in the video, I don’t know anything about these higher education/high qualification jobs. They are here that’s for sure, but as a non EU citizen it will be harder to get a job here. Maybe you should look more into Sweden or something like that, Iceland is just too small, not many opportunities. PhD might help you but I really dont know that. :/
Wow I just got thought to move to the Iceland for work and I don't have any friend who thought like me. I am from Poland and now I am hearing that there's a lot of us in Iceland. That's kind of strange, really. It's like we have something to the Iceland in our DNA or something? 🤣
Hi Saurabh! I mentioned in the video that I don’t know about these qualified positions, there is probably not many of them but I really dont have experience with that.
In your case, the University of Iceland would be your best resource (your first port-of-call) to (help you) find your footing in Iceland! However, As Petr Emphasized, It Can Make A World Of Difference Where You Are/Come From, And How (Much) In Demand Your Specialty/Field (of study) Is In Iceland; Good Luck!!
