This might be the first time I’ve ever heard someone talk about this aspect of the industry without getting the networking ick. Thank you for being so candid and genuine!
Really loved this video and appreciated your comments on being a multi-hyphenated person! I always thought I had to be a specialist to be successful, but I've always found myself wearing multiple hats. Artistically I am a director/dramaturg but have made my career in arts administration (first in box offices and now working in programming at a PAC). I've been able to apply my artistic skills to my administrative career and vice versa. Always important to learn and grow from every opportunity!
This video is amazing. I dream of joining the industry as a writer/composer and the how to connect, how to get that entery level opportunity is so important and you are so so so amazing for giving from your time to help others. ❤❤
I want to work in theatre. Full stop. Everything, Everywhere, All At Once? Eventually creative as well (juices are flowing, but that still feels like a distant goal). Currently living in Abilene, TX and would love to know more about the Dallas theatre scene; potentially some tips on getting a foot in any door there?
Hey! I have a question, do you need a theatre degree to work within the industry immediately? I would want to be a performer and also work behind the scenes. Would a theatre degree be encouraged
Ooh, I love this question and feel like I should make a video on it--but essentially, no, I don't think a theatre degree is essential. There are lots of ways to get to Broadway!
@@itskatharinequinn please do a full video on this! as a theatre college drop out due to financial reasons, I find myself feeling sort of stuck without all of the school connections (especially with wanting to be an actor/performer)
@@alyssaelizalyn I have gotten literally ZERO jobs as a result of my connections from my college--it is totally doable without that! But I'll start working on a video on this :)
@@alyssaelizalyn I *just* posted a video on this with some of our Gatsby cast talking about their thoughts re: MT school on the TikTok account @andthatsshow.biz --but literally none of them believe MT school is necessary to find success in the biz. You got this! And yes, will work on a vid for you as well :)
Love your content! I am an Arts Marketing graduate student with a goal of getting into theatrical marketing! What are some books that you would suggest to a student who is excited to learn about the business side of Broadway?
Love this! Honestly, it's tough because I feel like it's changing VERY rapidly right now, but in terms of like 'the way it's always been done,' Razzle Dazzle and the Secret Life of the American Musical!
