If you can't get a leash on your dog, you can not have progress! In this video I give you the breakdown of how to leash a dog if they are afraid of the leash OR if they are super aggressive and maybe you can't even come close to them with the leash.
Tools used:
Herm Sprenger Prong Collar 3.0mm (for large dog, over 30lbs)
amzn.to/335Zvel
Herm Sprenger Prong Collar 2.25mm (for small dog, under 30lbs)
amzn.to/324GvO6
6ft biothane leash (link below)

K9 Lifeline Slip Lead

This reminds me of how I taught my brother's dog to walk on a leash. Took an hour to walk her one block. But I'd just stand there and let her have her meltdown, then when she calmed I'd take a few steps. It'd happen again, and I'd wait. Eventually, she loved her walks!

I’m literally crying watching this video. I have two stray dogs that I’ve been trying to rescue for 2 months now and yesterday I managed to put a leash on one of them and she started to cry and panic so much I was in tears. I felt like the worst person in the world. Eventually, I kept on reassuring her that she is okay. When she calmed down and stopped rolling, I detached the leash. It was emotionally draining but I think with a couple of trials I will be able to rescue them both ❤️

They panic and alligator roll out of fear- you know that everything moving forward is going to help them! Don’t let your emotions dictate a better life for the dog... they simply have no idea they just hit gold!! I promise they will get over it- you don’t have to make it perfect in the moment, just get the dog to safety and you can let them decompress, then try again. ♥️♥️♥️

@@KocoGarcia Hey Koco, I’ve been following you for quite some time, but not as far back as this video. These techniques will be extremely helpful for a dog we’re pulling from the shelter this week. He alligator rolls when trying to leash. I immediately thought of you, and knew you would have a video to help!

So far the best and only video that I believe will help with my foster. I've had two weeks and I still have not been able to leash her or get her out of the kennel for the leash to eat. She's fine. Everything's fine until she sees that leash and it's just forget it so this is really helping. This is the best so far and I'm so grateful for this video. I will be trying this tomorrow morning.

The fearful dog part is the exact issue i am dealing with currently. My rescue dog Byulchi trusts me a lot more than my husband and thats because he is big and has a big voice and also i work with him more. This past week i have succeeded in being able to touch him after a month of adopting him. I have been able to get a leash on him but he is terrified of it and his harness. He absolutely WILL NOT move when the leash is pulled. He only trusts himself and no one else. To him, if i try to get him to come with me he assumes its a trap. Everything is a trap to him. Its really difficult but I am keeping that mentality of 'we've gotta get through this' as my motivation. I will take any tips. Thank you for making this video. This is a topic that is difficult to find on youtube.

The video was amazing!!! We got a foster rescue a couple of nights ago so we’re not in a hurry to go proper ‘walkies’, but I couldn’t even get a lead on him let alone lead train him. This took around 5 mins of being sat on the floor with treats and a slip lead. He only had a little freak out before coming to me for comfort and treats. We then managed to successfully walk up and down the garden and around house without major breakouts. THANK YOU!!

First video I have come across that properly demonstrates how to progress with getting a leash on a fearful dog! I have had my very fearful foster dog for 10 days now and we have been unable to put a harness or a collar on him, so I am going to start training with a slip lead from this point onwards with the methods you have just shown. I know he will not like it, but as you said, he will be stuck for months otherwise! Just need to get through this hurdle with him, thank you! X

Hi Koco, I have a foster dog that came from a horrible situation and I am working on helping him overcome his fears and move forward. He is a 3-year-old poodle breed that you cannot touch at all. He bolts like lightning if you try. I have "caught" him a few times with the slip lead and once on the lead, he really enjoys walks. The 3 areas I could really use advice on are: 1. What other techniques can I use to get him to not be fearful of the slip lead if he is not at all food motivated even with high-value treats. (I have been leaving the slip lead on the floor beside his bed which he doesn't mind. But as soon as I pick it up, he shakes and will not take treats) 2. How do you safely take the slip lead off if he cannot be touched at all 3. What techniques can I use to get him to accept touch Some FYIs - he is not a fear biter - he really likes people - he came from a hoarder situation with 14 other dogs in a home with no human living in - he is not afraid of anything like noises, vacuums etc.....just afraid of human touch. He loves me and comes up and sniffs my face and gets exciting to see me wagging his tail etc. He just will not accept touch. Any help you can offer I would REALLY appreciate it. I think you are amazing!!

hi i really love and appreciate the way you present your advice. Right now I have a terrier mix living in mybathroom where he has been for three weeks. He came from a hoarding situation and he can't be touched. I have him eating treats from my hand (sometimes, sometimes not) but do not try to touche him or he will fear nip. Everything you read online says to 'wait it out and let them do things at their own time' but I feel like he is just existing in the bathroom. I have made no other progress with him. So I'm gonna go ahead and tempt what you did with the dog in this video. Thanks for doing what you do. ~dt ps- Screw that lady...I loved the F bomb!!

Hey there! This is a great video! My one question is, since it's a slip lead, when the dog panics and starts spinning around and freaking out, it's probably going to tighten around their neck pretty significantly, and there's no way to loosen it without physically adjusting it. Is there a way to do this with dogs that have neck injuries or collapsed tracheas, or can't have that pressure/tightness around their neck?
@KocoGarcia
@KocoGarcia 3 года назад
Nicole E. Don’t close the clasp on the slip lead, or use a dominant dog collar- when they start to spin or panic, give IN to the pressure, don’t pull away, when they stop, adjust for slack and go again. You shouldn’t have trachea issues if you fit it high on the neck

I have researched a million ways to help my beloved 2 year old Male German Shepard Bruno who I trained since a puppy. He’s amazing but traumatized with noise phobia from a simple walk at 6 months old. Garbage trucks and trailer hitches are the worst. He runs away from me in the morning when we need to get him outside. It takes a lot of patience to get him leashed. Nighttime he’s a whole different dog My wolf man! Thank you for this truly best advice on helping Bruno, you’re Amazing! Do you work privately with clients? I am interested in further assistance if you’re available🙏

Hi does this also work for wolfdogs? I rescued a 8 month old saarloos wolfdog cross German shepherd. He was petrified of everything he has never had a lead on him so I tried a slip lead and he yanked it out of my hand having a fit. Now he a bit more weary but saarloos are nervous in general. It so sad because he has never been on a walk in his life he missing out on so much he scared of everything. Thankyou Clare ❤

@primrosecullen8488

I know you asked her but i´m just gonna put my 2 cents in here too =) Do exactly what she did with the leash. First step can be just leading him into the bathroom. Stay until he relaxes then give him a treat or whatever he values and leave the bathroom. The next day you have him go into the tub/shower. ( NO WATER) Have him in there til he relaxes. Then treat and take him out. You see where this is going. Break it down in really small steps. Even go as far as to start feeding him in there. The more safe he feels and the more he knows this will not hurt him, the less he bites. Make the bathroom a fun and safe place to be. ( This is why i hate people who use water spray bottles to correct their cats. This will only lead to more trauma once the cats needs to take a necessary bath.) Hope it helps. =) 💕 P.s And let it take the time its need. Leave time in another room =)
