A few weeks ago I visited Daniel from Omnivac. This company specializes in the development and construction of ultra-high vacuum components and entire systems. We talked about many highly interesting topics. Inverse Photoelectron Spectroscopy, Electron Beam Evaporators and Ultra High Vacuum components in general. In this video I will talk about Radial Distribution Chamber (RDC).
„The OmniVac RDC Distribution Chambers are the central element of our multichamber UHV-systems. It provides access to up to 8 individual chambers for e.g. preparation, storage or analysis. The RDC distribution chambers start with a diameter of 700 mm and offer a translation distances to each sample holder station in the different chambers beginning at 475 mm. An optional telescopic transfer arm allows for transfer lenghts up to 820 mm.
For sample holder reception and fixation a carabiner mechanism is used enabling safe and reliable transfer of your samples. Under common conditions a transfer can be performed in less than one minute, enabling nearly continuous heating or cooling of a sample.
Up to three DN 250CF windows provide full optical insight to all phases of the sample transfer process.“

Hopefully, you put dr fauci's face up next to the door and open it. since he sucks so much he would be in the ideal environment where he can suck even more.

Okay, this is now my favourite channel on YT! Please, do more vacuum chamber videos, it's such a hugely important niche for research and manufacture! All the thin film tech we invent now, can be scaled massively when we build factories in orbit!

@@AdvancedTinkering I service electron microscopes and have seen similar apparatus in some labs. What is photoelectron microscopy? I know high energy electrons striking an atoms orbital electron gives off characteristic x-rays (i.e. photons when they change orbits) when they change shells. Is this what you are referring to?
@GerCrusader
@GerCrusader Год назад
@@purza95 its a ultraviolet source attached to the chamber, it excites the atoms to emit electrons. These will be analyzed in the spherical shaped insturements to the side. Those are electron energy analyzers. It is a type of spectroscopy, not microscopy or spectrometry. You analyze the energy of the emitted electrons and measure the energy band structure of your sample. You can use photons of different energies to exite the atoms, on this system the uv source emits uv photons, but we also had an x-ray gun installed some time ago to do XPS instead of UPS.

I wonder how are the clear parts of the view parts sealed for UHV? Is it by a copper disc like the other connections or is it by some other method (wouldnt the glass/acrylic? break when trying to deform the disc)?

Hello, good explanation, thank you! There was a series of vacuum tube fitting shown around minute 6:43 on the stainless tubes. Would you know what they are called or where to find them please? thank you! I believe they are a combination of Swagelok with a double knife edge being compressed when fighting the swage nut. Thank you!
@AdvancedTinkering
@AdvancedTinkering Год назад
Thanks! I think you are talking about CF vacuum flanges. They are used for UHV and are pretty expensive and the copper gasket should only be used one time (but you can reuse them in some cases). You can get those flanges at almost all vacuum part suppliers.

Very cool video... but onto the real questions: How specialized is that high pressure aluminum foil on the chamber? XD
@AdvancedTinkering
@AdvancedTinkering Год назад
It's heavy duty aluminum foil. I don't think there is a UHV Lab without aluminum foil :D
@GerCrusader
@GerCrusader Год назад
the foil keeps the chamber warm on cold days ;) either it is used as a replacement tent when it is not done yet or to plug some holes in the tent. These have to be there because the customer will attach chambers to these ports.
@jscudderz
@jscudderz 10 месяцев назад
Actually pretty specialized, it's thick and bought for vacuum stuff and is more expensive than regular foil

How are vacuum leaks mitigated where the various motor/manipulator shafts exit from the chamber? Presumably at least some of the bearings in the motors are ball-bearings rather than bushings... wouldn't those be really leaky?
@XanatosDavid
@XanatosDavid 9 месяцев назад
There are a few types of rotary feed throughs, the best with regard to not leaking are magnetic once, thay have a magnet in side the vacuum that couples to one outside and allots to transfter the rotation. Other types, would be metal shafts sealed with a ferro-fouidic seal doof to 10e-7 mbar and can handle rotation speeds up to 100hz, or you could use a regular Viton seal around a shaft here you can only rotate it slow, such arangements ofter have a second seal and inbetween you apply some rough vacuum.

Some turbo pumps actually need to be run at atmospheric pressure for some time so the lubricant spreads around when they haven't been used for along time.

@AdvancedTinkering
@AdvancedTinkering 11 месяцев назад
I don't know exactly what you mean. But the aluminium foil is used either to cover open flanges on vacuum chambers to prevent contamination from entering or for insulation while the chamber is being heated.
