I remember back in the late 70s having several 1965 Chevy pickups. We put the VIN tag on which ever one we wanted to drive. Pop rivets. Move the license tag and drive on. Being able to get from point A to point B is a right not a privilege. Most people dont even realize how much freedom we gave up when we allowed government agencies to control our means of transportation and the taxation of said transportation.

You can do the same thing with a home built trailer. Show proof of purchase on all materials and have an inspection done usually a Highway patrol officer does that. I don’t know if they will come to your house. I’ve always seen it taken to them. I can only speak to how it’s done in Utah though.
@saneauto

Ive done thousands of garage keepers liens. The closest thing Ive had to do to this, is on a trailer build I did. The procedure in North Georgia for VIN title and tag was almost exactly the same as you describe for your vehicle. This was easier and faster than the garage keepers liens.

In California you would start with the DMV. They would demand you physically take the vehicle to the CHP for a "Blue Tag" (they don't do house calls). It would be difficult just to get through the first process of getting a "Special Construction" tag, but then you would probably have an even worse time with the second phase, or even an impossible time getting registration to drive the car on the street due to stringent EPA, DOT, and CARB restrictions. This would make the task not worth doing, because you may, or may not end up with a drivable vehicle. Maybe build it in Tennessee then sell it to a person in California, but only if it can be titled as a 1968 (?) Mustang, and not of the year built. If it were registered as a new car or year built, you could never get it past the smog referee.

Only draw back is the new vin would be like a “kit car” vin. As to a 67-68 vin would be worth more in the eyes to most people in the market. Well explained!
@1194video
@1194video 7 месяцев назад
Not to say your completely wrong but if it’s a kitt car it will say it is the year the vin is made such as 2023 but a new body of a 1967 mustang says 1967 Ford Mus on the title, it’s a complete duplicate to my Origional 1967 mustang not a kit car, if I were building a Shelby cobra then it would say 2023 cobra kit. None of this is valid in California. According to my local CHP contact, without the original Ford VIN that would be considered a specialty built vehicle and stamping your own VIN on the car (or even refreshing an original VIN) considered a felony. Several years ago I needed a replacement title for a '65 Corvair and all it took was an inspection of the VIN tag by a clerk and all was OK. I recently purchased and brought back to California a '39 Ford out of Arizona that had a CA DMV tag riveted to the door post. The original VIN is stamped on the frame in the correct location under some paint and the car is obviously not a kit car. Local CHP insists on having DMV research the riveted tag and registering the car under the original VIN. They are understaffed and only work this kind of stuff two days a week. Five weeks now and still no return calls and no title/registration.

Short answer… NO. The two cars mentioned may someday resurface and be restored even if the only thing left is the area where the tags are, and if you stamp numbers on a car that would be illegal, especially when the person who buys the physical cars goes to get titles and the department of motor vehicles sees that the numbers are being used, that would I’m sure prompt an investigation and someone would most likely loose their car. But I’m no expert on that, but I’m sure you could reach out to the county clerk and they will say the same thing

There are hidden vin numbers in that car, the VIN on the drivers side on top of the frame in two places. Neither are visible without removing the body from the frame or using a dentist type mirror with a light.

here is an example to study: you have a titled, registered . and licensed 80's square body chevy , crew cab, dually 1 ton with a long box. its your daily driver. you park it and remove the cab and bed to do a restoration. you buy a 65 passenger school bus with a totally mechanical diesel engine, lets say it is a DT360A and you remove the body to use as a storage shed. you decide to set the cab on the bus frame and make mounts for it. then set the bed and mark for center of axle location. move the spring hangers, springs and axle as 1 unit to the new location, and drill and bolt them in. then you decide to swap in a set of Rockwell 5 ton axles and a transfer case to make it a 4 wheel drive. lower the bed, hook everything up etc.. as long as the highest point on this truck is under the maximum legal limit, IT IS 100% ROAD LEGAL, AND IS STILL AN 1980'S CHEVY SQUARE BODY TRUCK!!! NO NEED TO EVEN TELL THE DMV YOU SWAPPED EVERYTHING!! IF YOUR STATE DOES NOT REQUIRE A YEARLY "SAFETY" /SMOG CHECK, YOU CAN ROLL COAL ALL DAY LONG AND BE TITLED AS A GAS BURNER!!!!!! Correct. To verify whether the vehicle is either OEM or shop built and to visually lay eyes on the vehicle that the owner is requesting a VIN and state issued title. On vehicles that are clearly OEM they want to look for original VIN on body and frame. If none are found they can issue a reassigned VIN. For vehicles that are verified as a shop built vehicle and not OEM, they will be assigned a new VIN and the title and registration will reflect as such. Shop built vehicles are NOT OEM vehicles and therefore their values will reflect that.

If im building a car from scratch I'm picking my own vin number! It would be based on the models original vin so it makes sense. I don't care if its starts with a G for Georgia. Example G22F67FM G=Georgia, 22=2022 build date, F= Ford, 67= model year of body style, fm= fastback mustang, next would be the factory digit of the engine in it...ect. If ford used a 6 as a code for a super charged 302 in 2016 and I used the same engine that would be my next number and so on until I ended in my last two initials and 01. I would put my number in all the places there supposed to be, let the police run a check on my vin number then take everything to the dmv. If they don't like it the can put a sticker on the door jamb also but your not changing my vin number! No state tells any other manufacturers what vin numbers they will be issuing. If they try with you thats discriminatory with no basis to impose such a rule on you. Police check whatever vin is visible with a description to insure it is not a stolen, duplicate, or destroy vin number. If the number the check is clean they write the visible vin number on the paperwork and then the dmv cannot change that because that woud be fraud. Car, boat, trailer, lawn tractor, it doesnt matter. If the manufacturer /maker puts a vin number on it the state cannot change it. They can only assign you one if it doesn't exist. Pretend it's your child and give it a name/ vin number Sounds like you already have a good relationship with the inspector just tell him what your doing and why. You get past him the dmv will have to record whatever he witnesses as a existing vin number on his paperwork.

A couple of points here. 1. A hot water heater does in fact heat up hot water. A tankless water heater, heats up cold water to be hot but a traditional tanked hot water heater maintains water at a certain temperature, So it is heating up hot water into hotter water. The only time it would be incorrect to call it a hot water heater is the very first time you turn it on since it would be heating up cold water. It would be grammatically correct to call tankless and instant water heaters "cold water heaters" and tanked water heaters "hot water heaters." 2. "Vin" is the name of the number. When somebody says Vin number they are referring to the number "Vin" they're not referring to the abbreviation for "vehicle identification number" which would be spelled "V.I.N." If the person said give me the "V" "I" "N" then they would be audibly abbreviating "vehicle identification number" and it would be grammatically incorrect to add the word number after that. But when somebody says "Vin" number they're not asking for the vehicle identification number number they're asking for the number named "Vin".

@@1194videoyes the car was built using all brand new reproduction sheetmetal. And yes it does look like a 67 or whatever Mustang. But because this car was not built by Ford, in their factories in 1967, with a Ford issued Vin number. It cannot therefore be titled as a Ford.

@carpespasm День назад
@@ericpetz5831 Dunno what to tell you, he mentioned in another comment that he's already received the title paperwork and they wrote it up as a 68 ford mustang. They've got to put something on the manufacturer line and it's technically a home-build, but they decided it's a 68 ford for their purposes, so there you go. Since the VIN they issue is gonna be a TN-xxxxxx number it's not like it's counterfeiting an original ford or anything.
@ericpetz5831
@ericpetz5831 День назад
@@carpespasm read my comment again. Yes the DMV issued a state of Tennessee vin number, which they do for any homebuilt car, bike, trailer, hotrod/custom built vehicle etc. And yes it may say 68 Ford Mustang on it. But because this is technically a home/custom built vehicle, with it's a repop body and everything else being aftermarket (aka new build). The title will more than likely have the body manufacturers name on it as well. So on a new build, with a aftermarket built body. And let's say said body was built by Dynacorn. Then the state issued title will probably say something like Dynacorn 68 Ford Mustang, on it, or something similar. To differentiate the repop Mustang, from the Original Mustang.
