Gillian, this is awesome, in depth information. I own my own online business. As much as I love it better than working in an office making money that goes into someone else's pocket, it is NOT easy work. In fact, I work harder than I did in a corporate office. I also work almost every day. Of course, if I need to, I can take the day off and not have to ask permission, which is a plus because I don't turn myself down! And, when I had to have surgery, I closed my online store for a couple of months so I could heal. But, working from home is not a get rich quick deal. If anyone tells you that it's easy, you can do this by the beach, you can work for yourself, it's not actually true. In fact, it's far from the truth. While I can work in my pajamas, I don't do my work by the pool or on the beach. I can do some of my work outside of the home, if I want to. I just find the quietness of my home to be my ideal spot. Even though I don't report to a boss, if I do freelance articles, the person I'm working for is my boss. So, if I have 4 people or businesses I write for, I have 4 bosses! And I can guarantee you, they are all different! Even if they know you are a freelancer (they always do), they will see you as an employee with no other work. You have to be mindful of your deadlines and allotted time available all the time. And, since your client is your boss, be prepared to redo your work often. Get contracts that spell out how many times you will do a redo. If you don't, be prepared to do it as many times as the client will want. And, they will want. If you work for yourself, be ready to spend a huge chunk of your energy and time marketing yourself. When Keven Costner wrote 'Field of Dreams', he did a huge disservice to the subconscious of America. No, you do not 'build it and they will come'. You have to go out there and pitch yourself. Gillian goes over this quite well in her video. If you build a wheel, you have to push it around a lot before people will see it and want you to build them one. If you are not self-motivated, you will struggle to work from home. There are lots and lots of distractions. If you only use deadlines as your motivation to get something done, you will burnout and will hate doing your work. People say they want to work from home like some say they want to be famous. You have to do SOMETHING to do that work; to BE famous. Are you prepared to put in the time, effort and training necessary? It's called paying your dues.
Ok Gillian, send me the address of your office to come put a application. A lot in the media tell me no. But, I really don''t know the reason. So let's me know.
Ok, let's doing it. Get on business. Hire me today. I'll do the same for you later one for you later with more money you'll not imagine. Text me : 646-675-8107 about your decision to jump in the conversation.
Previous month I was able to withdraw my first five figure paycheck ever!!! I've been working for this provider on the internet for 2 yrs now and I never been happier... They are paying me $95 per hour, and the best thing regarding this is that I am not that tech-savvy, they only asked for basic insight into internet and key typing skill...Awesome thing about it is the more time I got for my loved ones. I am in a position to commit quality time with my friends and family and take care of my children and also going on holiday vacation along with them very routinely. Don't skip this opportunity and try to react quick. Here’s what I do *acttoday48.com*
Yes! All valid points Gillian. A question I frequently get (led to me write a LOOONG blog post once😂) is whether or not you need a degree to get a freelance gig. Nope! You simply need to show people you can provide them with the results they are looking for whether that is web design, freelance writing or social media marketing. I have a background in biomedical research and never really learned anything about writing or social media management. I simply trained myself on these topics by taking courses like you said and created a profitable business around that. And not once did anyone ask to see my degree as proof. Freelancing/creating a business for yourself for the win! Thanks for another insightful video Gillian.
Working for the corporate world is not stable today like many people think. I worked for corporate companies for yrs & the majority are downsizing or outsourcing their jobs. I am looking for freelancing from all the experience that I have. I would rather be an independent contractor from now on than work for someone else.
I like the ideas but can you do a specific video for book editor? I watched your 12 ways to work from home and that was one idea. However I also would like an in-depth video on how to get started what to expect, possible struggles, results, possibly real life stories
Hello Gillian, thanks for the great information. Wow, Athens, Greece....what a major blessing for you & your family and enjoying the Greek scenery, a couple years ago. Take care and Blessings to you & the Perkins Family. 😀👋👋🙏
Do remote jobs provide health insurance for full time employees who work remotely? How common is that? I don't live close enough to the U.S.-Mexico border to cross for cheap health care, but if I worked remotely, I could get my healthcare needs taken care of without breaking the bank. The insurance I get through my current employer is not great (but really, no health insurance in the US is very good right now). If I had more geographic flexibility as to where I can work, then it would be much easier to travel to get healthcare more cheaply. I'm fluent in Spanish, so the language is no barrier. I realize you really believe in entrepreneurship, but the majority of people aren't born entrepreneurs and are really better off with a regular full time job. I have a BA in English and Spanish, an MA in Spanish and an MSLS in Library Science. I'm not sure I have the right kind of degree to get remote work. I probably should have majored in MIS instead??
In a corporate job you can not be fired easily after a probation period. But the most important thing is that you have medical and dental benefits , and pension benefits ant shares benefits , when for your 1 dollar investing, your company put, say, 50 cents ( up to a certain amount annua'ly though.). Besides, medical and dental benefits for your WHOLE family, just imagine ! Also, they give your some other perks, such as at least $500 to spend on massage, another few hundred dollars for psychotherapist or s omething (if your work is stressful), hotel discount and such. And you can start your business in your free time, and you can work part time at your corporate job, when your business starts making money. In what money you are going to live if you have no or underpaid job ?

I jumped when it was a bell sound. I did not expect that, and I was by myself at home and it sounded that the sound was near me, in my room and not from your video. OMG. It ,ay be funny now, but it scared me pretty bad. The problem is that I am not allowed to have a dog and it also makes difference.
I love your videos. Very informative. I have a question about legality "maybe this could be your next video"... Do you operate as an LLC? And if so, what percentage do you pay in taxes? I'm at the early stages of entrepreneurship but I'm constantly seeking growth. Once again, your videos are amazing! Thank you for what you do!
If you haven't yet, check out the video linked in the description "How to Start an Online Business in Just One Week" -- in that video, I discuss some of the legal aspects of starting your own business. Hope that helps!
Gillian, thank you for your video, it is very helpful. Could you give me an advice? I have 10 years offline marketing experience. I cannot start with very easy online work. But at the same time, I don't have experience at good online jobs. That's why I am asking if you know good couches (or maybe you are a couch :) that can give a hand to understand what job I should start with and what to do to grow, or I could have internship where s/he would guide me. Of course, I would pay for that.
I was hoping you would go into more along the lines of how to get any of these jobs without really stressing the college part. But it doesn't seem like you do that here.
I made a video a few weeks ago called "I quit college... here's what happened" that might be what you're looking for! You can find it here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-L5YpI2VYu3c.html You also might want to check out this free ebook I put together called "Establishing Credibility from Scratch." www.gillianperkins.com/get-establishing-credibility-scratch/
Hey! I really liked your video! I got a question- I’m a life coach and i checked out upwork- they don’t really offer life coaching - is there a website you can recommend for that? Also I have been thinking of doing translations- however I was wondering how easy/hard it is to get hired on upwork when I don’t have any references yet? Maybe you could make a video about how to build a profile when one is new to a website? Thanks!
Hi Melanie, great question! You're right, Upwork, or other freelancer websites aren't really the right place to find coaching clients. That's mostly because people like to hire coaches who they know, like, and trust -- not just "out of the phone book." I'd suggest that you focus on networking and "research based cold-calling." Also keep in mind that, for most of my marketing clients who are coaches, FB ads are their primary client generation strategy. Hope that helps!
Gillian, I currently receive numerous phone calls and emails from staffing agencies for different call center opportunities. Possibly just from my resume on Careerbuilder. How can I learn to get clients to find me in a similar way if I became a part time freelancer?
Do you have any info or experience with podcasts? and how to make income from it?? I listened to "Grammar Girl" story..over 50 million scribbers, book deal etc but no info on "how to"
Hey Gillian! What are your thoughts on copywriting as a way to work from home? In your experience, do you think it's possible to gain the skills and earn a good living doing that? Thanks!
J.Q. Simm Wondering about that too. I used to do copywriting (sorta) from a crowdsourcing website but the most I ever made was $100 a month. I do believe it’s likely that if you are hired personally by a company with a telecommunicating arrangement it is possible. Not sure about the crowdsourcing websites though.
Thanks for reply. I love to write and have a little experience in marketing, but I want to make the leap from my day job to full time work. I've been studying up on copywriting, and it looks like something I can enjoy.
Thanks for your questions! Well, I personally know several full-time professional freelance copywriters, so I would say YES! Definitely possible to earn a good living doing that. :) The copywriters I know focus more heavily on networking to get clients, but also get some work from crowdsourcing (freelance) websites. Hope that answers your question!
I'm a health coach and I'd love to know your opinion on how to get clients. I'm not a freelancer, so this don't apply to me. I'm trying to leave my corporate job, but is getting hard to find clients. Great video!
great question! Well, Upwork and other freelancer websites aren't really the right place to find coaching clients. I struggle putting together my portfolio for clients to pick me out of the masses on sites like upwork and others. I left my previous working life to be a SAHM for several years. The only work I was doing was direct sales. I have ALWAYS worked two or three jobs at a time because I'm slightly a work-a-holic. I really want to start working from home to start to get that part of me back. Any suggestions?
Thanks for your question! I'd suggest that you just get your portfolio together ASAP -- even if it's far from perfect. Start bidding on jobs on Upwork and other sites, and join a community of online entrepreneurs to learn from. The more jobs you bid on and the more you talk to others about what you're doing/trying to do/want to do more of, the more you'll be able to refine your ideas and clarify exactly what sets you apart. Hope that helps
you give us really good information, you are so beautiful, your face full of honest, and nice English talking very clear, I really enjoy watching your video.
This video is a waste of time based upon the headline/title How to Get a Work-at-Home Job (the TRUTH)' 'as no real detailed information was provided nor did the author ever says whether they themselves had ever had to find an online jobs etc. She's just pumping her channel
Yes, definitely! I run FB ads for my clients actually, so it's a big part of how I help them grow their businesses. If you want more information about using FB ads to gain clients, I'd recommend you check out one of my older videos called "Facebook Ads on a Small Budget." You can find it here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bduaVfmxmNs.html The main thing that makes or breaks FB ads as a successful option for generating clients is how well thought out your strategy is. You really need to be in it for the long haul and have a complete funnel built out, or else it's a waste of money. Hope that helps!
Manpreet Singh - she has covered that in a previous video. Look in the video description or go to her RU-vid channel. Information is available, if you just look. Have a nice day!🙂
Thanks for the questions! I'm the owner of several businesses, and also a speaker and bestselling author. If you want to know a bit more about my entrepreneurial work, you might check out the video "10 Ways I Actually Make Money" Thanks for being here!
Please direct me in the direction of company(s) that are hiring. I would be considered entry level. I'm interested in the position of Social Media Editor or Web Tester. Is that possible being I no prior experience? I've looked for months for an at home position but there are so many scams. I've worked online before with, TruVision (selling vitamins and weightloss supplements) and booking people who would like to cruise. I'm not interested in those again, not my cup of tea. I am very motivated and eager to find work as I have four children and severely handicap husband who had a massive stroke and is now and on disability which is a very megar existence for our large family. Please, please give me some advice so I can achieve an omline WAH position. I would be forever greatful. I was elated when I stumbled across your RU-vid video. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
Hottie alert It’s amazing how you focus on to the camera I love this video really great this format I like thank you for putting the seeds to find a job from home
