Black flame blade was the 1st incantation I had an interest in...until I found out it only lasts 7 seconds... Very underwhelming. Love these flame effects but some of them need to last longer. I don't even care if they nerf the damage but wish they had more uptime. Oh well.
The black flame blade is used a little differently than other gease buffs. It's supposed to be used as an animation / attack string cancel. take the knife for example, it has a 5 light attack combo string with the last attack having a bunch of end lag, you can do 4 light attacks and then apply the buff and restart the attack string. you can apply the buff faster when you animation cancel it like right after a roll. for me it is with the bloodhound step, so enemy does a big attack, i step through apply buff 4 hits apply buff 4 hits
I use it on greatsword and then immediately bloodhound step into a thrust and then try get behind them and land another hit before it runs out. Or just do a running jump R2. You have to be very aggressive.
Like other replies, I think the reason lasts 7 second it cause otherwise it could be tremendously broken. I’m using win my character 21 dex/ 31 faith/ uchigatana +7 (no farming, so I’m pretty slow in the game xD). After a roll I activated pretty quickly and I’m able to do +2000 damage w/ whole light attacks serie to big enemies. It’s brutal for me, considering my low stats.
The comments reflect that people just don't realize the black flame spells are most damaging to demigods and gods. You also should be using the Godslayers seal in your offhand to get the extra boost to the spells. They do massive damage against the shard bearers.
I just beat the final boss with tiche summon lvl 10 godskinpeeler +25 godslayer seal+25 about 70dex and 50 vigor and i never thaugth it could be that easy
Ive been treating the godslayers greatsword as the big game ender for the really strong bosses, wish it actually stacked the black flame but its such a cool weapon and skill

Glintstone Pebble to be more of a Godkiller than this. It lacks so much impact for me. I'd like it more, if it has DOT like Rot or Poison that lasts longer. I'd like it to have more impact. As their name are "God Slaying Spells" but the presentation of it isn't that impressive. I was hoping that we'd get an instant burn from a distance like Itachi from Naruto or conjure a blade like the actual Black Blade, similar to Carian Slicer with a different style. Maybe even a distanced explosion from nowhere. Something more "magical" or "fantasy-like" so that it'd fits the name.
The going theory is that it is either melana’s mother or melana herself. Personally I think melana is said queen, and I think Marika is her mother- why? She mentions being in the erd tree with her mother in one of her early game dialogues. Secondly, she shares the same naming convention with Melenia and Miquella. Finally, (and spoilers ahead) if you choose the 3 fingers ending before she burns the erd tree, at the end of the ending she will be alive still, with her one eye open (which looks very dusky/gloamy. Kinda like ranni’s eye) and she says she will deliver you destined death. Seems pretty darn spot on to me… the question is then, IF this is correct, who is her father? .. ….🤔 🤷♂️
Scouring black flame carried me through a lot of the mid game on my 1st playthrough. Against certain big enemies it can hit twice in 1 cast sometimes for massive damage. Similarly the double crucible knight fight became easy when I learned I could kite them both behind me and hit both at the same time with it, great incantation imo!
Thank you for talking about the Godskin stuff, it's my favorite thing in the game, Cotton Dinosaur. Now all I need is a proper build video. I know it's not the best but I love it so.
I know it's been 2 months, but... try erdsteel dagger. It scales with FTH for some reason, and still can be buffed/AoW'd. Very powerful with a FTH Black Flame combo, as you can reset the attack string mid-combo. Sadly only good in Multiplayer, as you won't get to attack twice this quick with such a short-range weapon. Then again, Black flames do -alot- of damage in Multiplayer, because of the % based DoT.
Black Flame ritual is absurdly strong against elden beast, especially when paired with rune of death weapons/ incantations I.E Maliketh's Black Blade, Black Knife and the Black Blade spell.
The troll hammer can be buffed with black flame and does innate fire dmg. One of the few weapons (of only) that can have both, so it might be a good mix for your build
@@Gilgaemesh one would hope considering glaive is like 10x worse than Andulas. Lightning has nothing going for it in terms of a status proc or a debuff.
@@connordutton674 also a combustion black flame version. If I’m not mistaken DS3 had this. All of those you mentioned would be nice, ask well as buffing the current blame flame incantations. Hopefully in a DLC they’ll add more and update the current ones.
Make sure you have fire damage up from the scorpion charm, incantation damage up from the canvas charms, your faith buff spells, jellyfish shield, etc. before you go casting these and saying they're weak :) They are incredibly handy for casters. My STR caster uses Stone of Gurranq, Lightning Spear, and Black Flame Orb as the 3 main projectiles to pick from. Black Flame Orb has been my go-to when I rock a buffed Bloodflame weapon
Shame one of the coolest looking blade incantations (black flame blade) has such a short duration. I just stick with blood flame blade on a Flamberge or Zweihander instead

It's a shame the black flame spells aren't that good cause they just look so cool I'd like to imagine that we'd get a Black Flame Breath as a DLC spell if a DLC is in the works

I really like the twinblade weapon you can get from the Godskin at the windmill hill. It looks just like a piece of equipment one of the races in my own setting uses, although theres is made of magic glass rather than...whatever the godskin peeler is made of.

I was sold when sawing the black flame incantation in action. Now just got my Black Flame Monk set and the Black Flame Greatsword. Still need some spells, weapons and ashes of war, but already rocking alot of content :)

Surprised you didn't mention Helphen's Steeple. It's a sword that uses the black flame incantation basically, the difference is this version lasts longer that 7 seconds! It should totally be considered part of the black flame set.

I was literally just about to check where to find these because I wanted to try a blackflame build and then saw this video lol Turns out I actually had all of them though.....lol
I honestly just HOPE to the gods that they make dlc for this game and add a fuck ton of insane new powers or even dlc that depends on which ending you already did and has different progression based on that ending.
So, basically, the only ones of any note are the first two you get for free without having to fight a boss, and the black pillar flame incantation. Effectiveness over flashyness is great and all, but I'll definitely be trying to find something better later on. Was hopeful there would be a catch black flame spell, guess not.
I can see this being fun with a mix of either duel antspur rapiers with poison (quad status for those feeling cheeky) or a straight antspur for maximum rot and a separate poison weapon, you could also do this with a choice dagger with poison and the scorpion sting dagger for max rot build, fast poison build, and then stacking the black flame blade dot, may be best to do this with 3 sets of different duel daggers to get each status faster and then buff each dagger, if that's possible.... Also if it is you'll probably need 2 seals..... It would be funny dod though, also may want something like great knifes for a bit of bleed for your black flame buffing as well.
The black flame I got with the godSlayer Seal was totally different. Mine is used with a stuff. When you cast it 4 black flamed skulls Chase after the enemy....🤷🏻♂️
That is Rancorcall, it's not an incantation, but a sorcery that you get from a shiny beetle under stormveil castle. Also it's a death sorcery, not a black flame one.
So black flame blade is really weird. It actually works like one of the rope greases, with a fast cast an equally quick duration. Also, is there no regular fire buff outside of grease? 🤔 weird…
Bloodflame is as close as you can get to a straightforward fire buff. There's also the flaming strike buff, but that only gives you a fixed bonus (+65?).

I wish there was more Black Flame spells, and that they were more useful, bigger aoes and maybe more damage? Idk it seems very underwhelming and I love the black flames
Have they changed the location of blackflame blade?? I got the book and took it to thops but the only one he has is the thunder enchantment!! No blackflame blade! EDIT: NEVERMIND, I was not paying attention, I gave Thops another prayer book, then didnt give him the blackflame monk's book. Got it!
I wish more than anything that the weapon buffs in this game wear off after number of hits instead of over time... i just want my sword weapons glowing all the time really.
I think the black flame protection is bug for me, I got the secret Medina went to the secret area video so I went to talk to Gideon and he doesn't say nothing about it
I don't know why when I went to talk to Gideon he didn't say anything about giving me a spell I haven't killed him yet and the husks are not selling it
