Hello! Last summer, I interned at an insurance company as an actuarial intern, but it was SO DIFFICULT for me to get the internship. I did SO MANY THINGS WRONG during recruitment, and applied to 30 places before getting a single offer. These are the tips I wish I knew before starting my internship hunt.

Hello, love the video and really appreciate the tips! Can't wait for the second part to come out 😊I'm a rising Junior at the U of I in Actuarial Science and I'm stressing about internships already. School starts in 3 days and the college career fair happens mid-september roughly around the time when all companies have their application deadline for their first round of recruiting, so I was just trying to improve my knowledge in the Actuarial Internship recruitment scenario. Seems like you were in a similar position a year back and have learnt along the way. I would love to be able to converse with you, if that's okay with you. 🙂Thanks for this video!

4 years later post university, writing my fifth exam, and not 1 company has given me 1 interview. I’m currently competing with the juniors of my juniors.

Jay Sea Congrats on already passing so many exams! That’s really impressive! You might want to try reaching out to interviewers from companies that you’ve been rejected from to ask for feedback on your application, resume, or interview. I’ve done this several times, and it has been very helpful for me

Tiara Tanka yup, done that. It’s either overly generic, or I don’t get a reply at all(which is usually the case). I’ve reached out to 3rd parties to “observe” my approaches in various networking events. Nobody knows what I’m doing wrong.

Thank you for the great tips. They were informative and are going to be helpful for me in the future. I am currently a junior majoring in applied math concentrated in actuarial science (didnt follow the first tip 😅) with minors in finance and economics. I was wondering if you passed any of your exams (mainly p and fm) yet. And if you did, what kind of material did you use to prepare for the exam or did you just understand everything taught to you in class. I was wondering if I could talk to you directly as well too about other actuarial stuff. Thank you and I wish you the best on your future endeavors 😁

CheeZ Puffz Yay! Glad this was helpful:) Yup, I have passed P and FM, but I’m not planning on taking any more exams or pursuing a career in insurance. The exam material did not overlap much with my coursework. For P, I read faculty.atu.edu/mfinan/actuarieshall/Pbook.pdf cover to cover and did most of the practice problems, minus the sections in the book that were not on the most recent exam syllabus. I also did all the practice questions in www.soa.org/globalassets/assets/Files/Edu/edu-exam-p-sample-quest.pdf minus the questions on topics that were not on the most recent syllabus. These are the solutions www.soa.org/globalassets/assets/Files/Edu/edu-exam-p-sample-sol.pdf. There were also a few short manuals listed on the syllabus that I read. For FM, I read faculty.atu.edu/mfinan/actuarieshall/mainf.pdf cover to cover and did most of the practice problems, minus the sections in the book that were not on the most recent exam syllabus. I also did all the practice questions in www.soa.org/globalassets/assets/Files/Edu/2017/exam-fm-sample-questions.pdf minus the questions on topics that were not on the most recent syllabus. In india there are not much opportunities available as compared to US or UK and also the competition is very high

Apart from GPA and Actuarial papers,are there any other skill(language or soft skills) that employers look up to or they prefer?

Excel is really crucial. You will also use SAS or some other statistical/data management software, but if it is your first internship, you are usually not expected to be familiar with SAS
