How to get Audio out of an Epson projector 

Wow! Can't tell you how long and how much I've searced around for this! Just as I was waiting for Epson to open, I found this video and it TOTALLY solved my issue! Can't thank you enough! Definitely very worthwhile! All the best to you and the family!

I got home with the ex9240 (major picture and lumen upgrade from our mars nebula pro) I of course assumed the damn L/R rca would go out to my sound bar. Even some if the audio settings imply this would work. I have been dicking with it for over an hour trying every combination of settings, cables. I barely avoided divorce as my poor wife was suggesting to “reverse” cables trying to calm me down, lol. Found your video. Thank you for saving my marriage. :) ordered device. Thank you!

This video is really helps. I am in a puzzled state on what to do with my eb-x03 when I realized it has no audio out. Your vid became a life saver. Shame on Epson on how can they can facilitate an audio out. BTW it would have been more wonderful if you would have connected to 5.1 and demoed it as well. Anyways thanks buddy. To the Forum: did anyone tried with this connector got succeeded in throwing audio into your 5.1 or external speakers? Please comment.

Thanks for the video. I had my projector for 6 years and always had to connect a cable box to a receiver to get it to have sound. I cancelled cable and use Chromecast now. I stream everything from my phone now. Like most people. I use RU-vid TV. So I am not using the projector at all cause I couldn't figure out a easier way to get sound out of it. I will be ordering this device tonight. Hope it works out just in time for the NFL Playoffs.

Thanks for the video. I have no idea why Epson made the decision to exclude audio out but I'm returning my Epson Pro EX9240 for something else. It makes absolutely no sense why such a basic feature is not included on a projector costing $1,000.

EVERYONE. IT supports 7.1 . I bought it a couple of days ago and if you put it to pass through and you have 7.1 it will work on DTS and most dolby settings. Just make sure you have your firestick to that,

Would this work if my Roku is plugged into one of the HDMI in spots on my AVR and the HDMI out goes to this converter? Then take the HDMI out on my receiver to the projector? If I were to plug the Roku into the converter and run the RCA cables to my receiver would it still covert to 5.1 sound? Thanks

I just got the j-tech box,I have a projector and a soundbar(klipsch cinema 600 3.1 and the surround speakers). There's the 5.1 switch,2.1 switch(pass), and another switch, what does pass switch do?

So what are those rca audio (yellow, white , red) plugs in the back ?

Great video but why not use a receiver? Besides expenses or if you just want one video source going to the projector. I'm going to use mine for an outdoor theater so only need the fire stick which means I'll get this splitter.

Wow almost threw in the towel until I saw your video,, Just bought an Epson 1060 projector and no AUDIO out,, It's unconscionable Epson would make a projector w/ no audio out,, called Epson management and read them the riot act,, a disgrace,, also had to get a new Comcast cable box and yet again no audio out,, but VIOLA you are here to the rescue,,, will probably use the converter w/ a sound bar using a cable w red & white rca plugs on one and 1/8" mini plug on other end,,, but tell me more about an optical cable,, is that any good?? Can u imagine spending $900 on a projector and no audio out

I just stumbled across your video after trying to fix a similar issue. Question: do you know if the audio converter will allow audio to pass to a speaker that is played from a Bluetooth source connected to the projector? I recently purchased an Epson 1266 and can connect directly to the projector through an app, but sound (of course) plays through the speaker.

Thank for uploading this video, really helped me out. I now have sound on external speakers however there is an audio delay between the projector and the speaker, it's not an issue when watching documentaries but it is for movies and sports. Did you have this issue? I'm using a firestick and chromecast.

Not sure what model you bought but the converter I purchased is complete garbage. It does split the audio but you can barely hear it and there's no option to jack up the volume. My model is JTDAT5CH

For PS you can use hdmi to hdmi and then an amp to connect with PS. For Fire Stick or Chromecast you can connect amp or home theatre with bluetooth. I am using the same projector with Apple Tv and it is connected with Sony D100 using Toslink Spdif to 3.5mm. As my speaker doesn't have spdif.

I'm dealing with a new EB-X31 projector and Epson STILL thinks nobody wants an audio output. It's a shame that I spend $700 on a projector and still have to buy additional periphery and power supply for the HDMI audio extractor. I am half-tempted to install my own stereo jack in the back - I probably would if I could come up with a schematic for this model.

I have an epson 660 with a hdmi splitter that i have my firestick and my ps4. My issue is that i want to connect my epson with the soundbar so i can get the full projector experience. With this hdmi to hdmi + audio converter would i be able to have sound on the soundbar for all of the devices on the splitter?

Does anyone knows if this works with 1920x1200 resolution, I assume it's irrelevant because it is extracting audio but it isn't listed in the compatible resolutions. WUXGA is killing me since AV receivers don't support it.

I cant get my epson 1060 hooked up to my soundbar. Do you think it will work with a soundbar with hdmi port and a converter? The soundbar i have now doesn't have hdmi port only a optical cable

HDMI handles audio and video. Why the converter?

This is really funny cause we have bought the EXACT same HDMI Converter, it kinda works as intendet BUT the sound cuts out as soon as it gets too quiet. Thus in every quiet passage the sound completely cuts out so it's rather choppy. Also the sound is really muddy somehow. I wonder if a pricier option works better. We don"t have the same projector but some other Epson one. Don't really know why it's cutting the sound off in quiet passages but no volume configuration whatsoever fixes it. Nonetheless I'm baffled that there's no audio output. I mean they put in HDMI with audio support so they had to figure that some source would be audio AND video through HDMI. You really want me use those shitty built in speakers Epson?! Apparently it works fine for you ​ @Eduardo Torres ?

All you need to do it plug your audio outs from whatever component you are hooking up directly to your stereo receiver. Why even use the converter?

I want to hook both my PC and satellite receiver up to my projector while having sound from both. I have an HDMI splitter already. Can I hook the PC and satellite receiver into the splitter and then into the hdmi +audio device and then into the projector?

Epson really dropped the ball. I want to use my Chromecast, it works and all but the only audio output I get is from speakers on the projector and they are terrible. There's literally a 3.5 mm that says audio on my projector, but if I plug a speaker into it it doesn't do anything and there is no options in any menu for selecting audio output.

Why wouldn't you just hook it up to a receiver? Did you not do this because you wanted it to be portable?

Did you ever experience any audio latency issues while watching TV or Movie?

I think there’s something easier than that, try to find av or aux port in your pc ps4/5 whatever and Connect to your speakers

Be aware that this solution (using SPDIF) will only supply PCM 2Channel, LPCM 5.1, Dolby 2.0, Dolby Digital 5.1, and DTS 5.1 audio. It cannot support Atmos, DTS Master, or Dolby TrueHD. To the best of my knowledge it will also not support any 7.1 channel audio formats. Only 5.1 or lower. If you use the Red/White RCA, you're stuck with Dolby ProLogic II at best, but more likely just plain old stereo.

Tried two different model of Hdmi audio splitter, both display the same niggle, audio latency, that is the lip sync is noticeably out by a good few milliseconds, this spoils content, films etc with visible facial lip movement, sports etc with a remote commentary not a problem as it is not noticeable but regular close up oration spoils the viewing, to be fair I cannot see a way around this without disassembling the projector and doing a modification to the output of the DAC. Epson do not seem interested.

I know its an old video but shouldn’t you be playing the sound out of your video source. The projector is only supposed to project video not sound. Your sound comes from blu ray player, xbox, playstation or whatever your video source is. So the video out from xbox/blu ray goes to projector and the digital audio/rca out goes to amp out to your speakers.
