How to Get Closer to God | Specific Details and Advice 

The book "The Jesus Response" by John Pohl helped me feel a lot closer. It was like I was being spoken to directly when reading it.

My Bible teacher always tells me that prayer is like air for the spiritual life.. We can't live without air. Also that The Bible is like food for the spiritual life.. We can't live without food! This video helped me so much God bless you ❤️

I definitly try to understand and operate by myself often times. Sometimes I do it without thinking, sometimes I forget I can trust God and that I need to just give God my heart and let him do what he wants to do in me (for example I have been struggling with trusting God for years about something I know or at least think God wants me to do, but I still havent done it because I'm afraid to just obey because I know things will be shaken in my relationship with my family and potentially with God, because they may punish me in ways that wouldnt know could severly hinder me from growing in my relationship with God, or learning about him and his Word-hard to explain what I mean-but my disobedience also hinders my relationship with God, and I just cant bring myself to obey because those kinds of fears. There may even be a little bit of pride in me, or distrust, or questioning God?). Its also hard for me to get truly close to Gods heartor to hear him, for several reasons. One reason is because I struggle alot with sin (not going into further details then I did above) and discerning between the voice of God, my own mental activity (I have alot of it, mostly background voices-I cant control-and anxiety) and any demonic/angelic activity in my mind or dreams (when I was younger I constantly saw figures of dark beings, and 2 times a light figure in dreams-which spoke to me in my mind one dream-, and maybe even in real life when it happened in dreams of my room *shrugs*-I still see the dark figure occasionally in some pretty disturbing dreams, but I know he/it cannot hurt me unless God were to let it. i dont even know what these figures actually are: angels demons, theophanies of God, or just imaginations). I had asked God several times what all of this is and why I have seen all these things, wondering if its God or demonic attacks, or if im just Completely InSANE. But I trust God even when the voices of my mind or possibly even demons/other heavenly/hellish beings began to drown me. If anyone else had struggled with this, I would advise to just be somewhere quiet and calm, let God calm your mind and heart, dont bring up dreams or mental voices you hear to God unless its something you need to talk with God about (because you should be careful not to let the mental activity to rise uncontrollably or you wont be able to hear God speaking into your heart). I'm saying this because sometimes mental activity (whether its your own or angelic/demonic beings are planting things in your heart or mind) can make it INCREDIBLY hard to actually draw close to God or to hear what he speaks to your heart. And for any who struggle with this also, you need to know that your not alone and God cares and can help you. Note: Sorry if this was a little long as well. Or any info I put was unessasary or unorganized lol.

Im 23. I was born and raised in a very christian household. My parents and grandparents were really serious and careful in religious activities but i kind of felt like i was forced to pray and all that. So i did everything like a chore. So even though i was praying and going to church, i was not really spiritually closer to God. I always felt like it was us who have to find out god not like beinv forced. Now, at 23, im feeling that need. Im very far from the path of god, indulging in the world's desires, but there is always an inner voice saying, like my soul is craving for god. But i cant get there enough, i try to pray but i can't concentrate and cannot be consistent, im excited by the world's huss and buzz. But ill still be trying my best to get closer to God.

I have never felt so continually aware of His Presence as since I have been receiving the Eucharist regularly at the local Catholic Church. The Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Oh Yes, I know how "unbiblical" the institution is: the Sacraments, Sacred Scripture, Our Lady, asking Saints to pray for you (optional), Confessing your sins in front of someone else (you can also confess directly to the Lord). On and on it goes. I have debating this stuff for years with "Bible Christians", mostly to no avail (meaning no-one has apparently changed their mind. I certainly haven't). But the "unbiblical" nature of the institution seems a small price to pay for a continual intimacy with God which I never had to the same extent as a Pentecostal or even Anglican.
