In this video I go over how to introduce an anemone into your saltwater aquarium. Then I go over how to introduce a clownfish into an anemone successfully. This was a trial and error experiment. After several failures, I finally got my clownfish to host the anemone. Watch how I did it.

Congrats! I have a technique that hasn’t failed me yet. I wait for the clowns to be asleep at night, then net at least one of em and let it touch the nem. As soon as they feel the sting of the nem, their natural instincts kick in and they will host it.

Old video now but one method i used that worked 100% of the time was getting a strainer basket and attaching foam on the sides so it floats. Then place the nem in there with the clownfish for a few days and then move them into the tank. Normally the clowns go into the nem in 10-20 mins but i keep them in there for 3-4 days to make sure they know to go in the nem when i place them in the tank. Another method that worked well for me was scaring the fish. Scare them so they look for a place to hide. They always shot right into the nem after they brushed up on it when they were looking for a place to hide. I also used a scraper but i used a net too. I moved the scraper fast so the fish were actually trying to get away. If i moved it slow like you did, it wont work.

So cool bud!! I've always just put the nem and clowns in a spaghetti strainer. Waited a few days and reintroduced the nem and clowns back into the tank. Has worked 2/2 times so far. I will be trying this very soon again since I'm getting in 2 more clowns this Tuesday.

NICE! Yea, so many techniques people use. I really thought the clowns would take to nem right away, otherwise I would have planned this out better before allowing the nem to anchor down.

Easiest way is to put your clown and anem in a small floating breed tank and make magic with food
@rizendell
@rizendell 4 года назад
All I had to do was have a small anemone in the tank and then added the fish. If you have fish that wont home to the anemone, try putting the fish in a bucket of tank water with a bubbler for a day or so. They will forget everything they ever knew of your tank. Add them back in and they will be disoriented and go looking around again for a suitable host, find it rehome themselves. Fish dont have long term memory, so confusion of their surroundings can have a significant impact on what they consider their territory or home. Good luck.

I used the basket trick with tank raised clowns and anemone took 3 days for them to jump in. As soon as l saw them inside l released them into the tank and they ignored it. Thanks to your video l just got the net out and pushed them towards it starting with the female and it worked after about 1 min of keeping her next to it then later pushed the male there and now they are sleeping inside as l done this while lights where off. Very helpful video appreciate it a lot!

So glad for you. I wasn’t so lucky and had to get rid of my RBT for the reasons you mentioned. To much stress/risk on my end if my clowns weren’t hosting it. I tried wrapping the tank in pictures of hosting clownfish. No good. I removed my fish and RBT and placed them in a stainer in the tank for 3 days. Thy hosted it in the strainer but when I released them all back. The clowns left and never returned. One main obstical I had was my clowns were in an “anemoneless” reef for 10 months. And hosted my return line on the right side of my tank. My anemone was placed on the left side of the tank as it was the only good place for it. I think the distance was the biggest obstical I had Some day I’ll try again.

@ReeferGil
@ReeferGil 5 лет назад
Why would you expect growth after such a short time? Most reefers wish anemone's wouldn't grow large to avoid having them sting neighboring corals. If your conditions are good, it will grow... but in time. Worst thing you can do is try to overfeed it. You will end up killing it. I would not suggest buying a second anemone as you will not have different results. You current anemone will look fabulous.

@@ReeferGil ok so i found out it's a watermelon anemone and they don't really grow, and from what i've heard about them they look just like mine, and yes before reading this i just bought a bta, sorry, but clowns are showing more interest in hosting and it looks very happy, the other anemone is weird, i went on r2r and i found a few threads on watermelon anemones and people for even having them for a year and them not growing, and once i get a qt set up i'll try the method of how you got your clowns to host, my female goes in a shakes for a bit and comes back out, male will look at the anemone but doesn't really go into the anemone or has even tried, anyways, sorry that i bought another one but it does look a lot better than the other one, and the other one is to small for my clowns to host even,

Weellll, I ended up netting my Darwin's removing my nem n placing all 3 in a colander. I floated all 3 for a few hrs. until Bonnie and Clyde eventually hosted the nem. I put my nem back into to spot she was taken from and let loose my terrors. All's well that ended well

Hey, may I ask, how is your hand not getting stung when touching the anemone???
@ReeferGil
@ReeferGil 3 года назад
Some people are sensitive to their sting. They just feel sticky to me, never had a reaction, LOL. Good thing I don't have a blue ring octopus.

Mine were both little tiny clowns when I first got them. It took no effort. They just went into a pre-existing anemone. You can DO-IT!

I didn’t use no technique lol just put the Nems in and the clowns went for it. But I usually put 2 different Nems in lol now each clown has a nem it’s so backwards. Also I got another nem for the porcelain crab to host which I love just as much but the crab and the clowns don’t share the Nems

I've held them and touched them before. They don't bother my skin, just feel sticky. On that note, I have seen them irritate the skin of others who have tried the same.
