A few things I omitted are Hackathons and Kaggle competitions. These are both great ways to earn experience as well!

I am definitely going with that charity data analysis thing. Here in India most of the NGOs collect data but that data seems to be of no use as there will be no analysis by them. I would like to get my hands of that data and help them to improve their social welfare services. Thanks for the great idea Ken.

Hi, I just completed way college degree four months ago, did data science course with getsmarter. Now my question is, on my LinkedIn profile should what words should I use as head (should I put data scientist for recruiters to find me or just write a graduate). I don't know. Plz help. Cheers.

Hey Ken, thanks for another great video! I have a question regarding working for a non-profit or a small company though. Do you literally knock on their door and ask if you could apply your skills to their project? I was thinking of doing this as an option if I don't get an internship before I graduate.
@KenJee_ds
@KenJee_ds 5 лет назад
I would recommend reaching out through your network or via LinkedIn. I would also make sure you have thought out the project that you would like to do for them. If they are harder to reach, you can always try to meet one of the employees for coffee to learn more about the organization. Once you have them there in person you can propose doing some free work. Hope this helps!
@BiancaAguglia
@BiancaAguglia 5 лет назад
@Jaemin Lee One other thing that works is joining online groups or going to real life meetups for entrepreneurs and small businesses, or to events organized by local chambers of commerce. You'll meet people who could be helped using skills learned by a good data scientist. Many times you won't need complex, time consuming solutions, but that doesn't mean that your input and problem solving skills are less valuable. 😊

@KenJee_ds

Hi Anna - I recommend looking through your personal network. If you have a friend that owns a company or their parents, that is a good start. Even if it is a small business or grocery store. Also, looking at local non-profits or startups that are short staffed are good options. I hope this helps!

@@KenJee_ds , thanks! I have such plan. I watch as many thematic videos as possible. And I find out as much as possible about the data science community. And I ask questions, meet people, tell about myself. And I hope I can find my first useful, not educational experience such way. It’s also very exciting and enjoyable for me.😸 Hi, my name is Anna, I'm senior system analyst from Russia, and I'm junior in data science. Nice to meet you!🤗 I skimed your channel and found out many useful themes there. Big work👍

Hi, thanks for watching my video! I think that it is absolutely possible to get an entry level data analytics job without a degree. I would recommend doing one certification and a TON of projects. I have a video on the types of projects that you should do to set yourself up for success. For an analyst job I think that it is possible to get in on the ground floor, but this would be a lot more difficult for a pure data science position. I hope this helps!

Hey Ken, I heard that one needs to have an advanced degree or a lot of knowledge in calculus and statistics in order to get a job in data science. I’m interested in getting into data science and big data but am not sure about having the “required” formal education with advanced mathematics. Thanks!
@brennanruby7297
@brennanruby7297 5 лет назад
A good place to start may be a data analyst position on a team that works closely with data scientists. The barrier to entry is lower and you will get a feel for what part of the work you like. A company is much more likely to promote you into a position with less experience if they know you work hard and if you have provided value in a different role.
@KenJee_ds
@KenJee_ds 5 лет назад
@@brennanruby7297 Completely agree!
@KenJee_ds
@KenJee_ds 5 лет назад
Thanks for watching the video! A large portion of data scientists do have advanced degrees ~ 90% according a thread I found on reddit (I think it is probably lower than this). I truly believe that if you can perform the work, you can absolutely get a job in data science without additional formal education. It may be more of an uphill battle, but you can definitely do it. One option that you could consider would be to do a part time masters degree. You can apply for jobs while you do this, many people will think of it like you have already earned the degree. If you get a job, you can stop going to classes or see it through if you enjoy it.

Hi Sundarrajan - I recommend following along with my project from scratch series and using a similar approach for building a model for an organization: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MpF9HENQjDo.html. I recommend reaching out to non-profits in your area via linkedin or through your network to find these opportunities.
