I've been thinking about if DECA has a small amount of luck involved in the competitions. This is definitely not suppose to disrespect ICDC qualifiers, but some perfomance indicators are a little more broad than others. I might be wrong but it's been something I've been thinking about for awhile.
There is definitely luck involved. You almost have to assume all competitors at ICDC are mostly equal in their presentations. You have to find ways to tip the luck in your favor. I'm a 6-year advisor still figuring this out for you all.
There’s always personal bias from judges too, some people will just objectively think one person’s thinking is better than another. ICDC tries to combat this by having finalists but there will still be bias from the one final judge.
Hey! Idk if ya remember me but I was the guy who made it to state. Well I'm going to ICDC and this was a great video to prime me leading up to competition. Thanks so much for helping everyone out.
I was curious if you know how preliminary rounds will be grouped together? I got 1st in PMB in my state, who will I be going against other people who got 1st or will I also be going against people who got 2nd or 3rd? It really seems like there is luck involved in what type of competitor you get and wether or not you can make it to finals easier. You’re going to have a lot easier time going against the 3rd place person from Wyoming then you are against the 1st place person from Texas, just because Texas has a lot more competitors.
somehow managed to make it to icdc without much studying or practice because I moved up as the people in my category decided not to go. Was wondering if you have some motivation or tips to make sure I make the best of it.
