Also the thing with using a sponge brush, at least it was for me, was that I found that as my hair grew longer and thicker, the sponge wasn't able to "grip" my hair deep enough to the scalp and give me that "nappy/twisted" look. This was most likely because I have a very, very coarse/kinky grade or texture of hair. But what I found out is that I was able to use just a regular hair brush to twist my hair in the same manner and was better able to section my hair for dreadlocks as well as style my hair into the nappy twist/thotboy look lol. What's important to note is that a brush will feel much rougher on your scalp and will cause pain, irritation, and hair loss so make sure to wait about 5-10 minutes after conditioning or wetting your hair to style.

If anyone's reading this, don't follow the example of Gun's Locked Method of using a sponge brush (no offense). You can use a sponge brush to twist your hair to get twist to the scalp in the 1st try. The problem is most people don't know how to use a sponge brush properly. If your white (or white/bi-racial hispanic) with loose or soft hair. Perm and wash your hair 1st to get a more wool texture. Afterwards, apply unrefined coconut oil to your hair (Trust me). Nothing else (Conditioner may be added to the coconut oil). And twist your hair in one circular motion on each side. Doesn't matter if it's clockwise or counter-clockwise. Until you have a defined coiled twist or very coiled curls. If you are African/African American with "4 Grade" Hair. When washing, apply the shampoo to your wet hair. Warm or hot water should be used. Then, use the sponge brush while the shampoo is in your hair since the shampoo and hot water makes your hair a softer texture to twist. Afterwards, rinse your hair and your sponge brush. Once out the shower, apply unrefined coconut oil to your hair (Coconut oil keeps your hair moisturized, feeds your hair & scalp, and is also a locking mechanism once at room temperature). You can also add a conditioner with the coconut oil for extra hair treatment. And twist your hair in one circular motion on each side. Doesn't matter if it's clockwise or counter-clockwise. Until you have a defined coiled twist or very coiled curls.

I have a sponge and I tried to use it on my hair and the locks come out too thin on my head. Too many locks also form with the sponge method. I think dreads are the best hairstyle for my taste and personality I hope to have them one day and that they look neat I see too many people with dreads that look awful I don't want mine to be like that when and if I get them.

this is how I twisted my locs. I used the sponge 3 times a day for about 30mins too. it's been 4 months and I can already see hella new growth. by the end of 2017 I think they would be past my ears lol
