The best way to clean your brass that I have found is to put all of your brass in a bucket with hot mild soapy water and add some citric acid leave it in there for five minutes and swirl it around and then dry it and tumble it in walnut media with a small amount of rubbing compound it comes out flawless as good as new! The dryer sheets are used to keep down the dust and collect the oxidation that prevents the brass from getting clean!
I bought a cheap sonic cleaner on Amazon, with citric acid and Dawn dish soap . the results are AMAZING ... no fuss or extra cleaning of primer pockets . I would never go back to tumbling !!
This is a neat trick I had not heard of. I will definitely give the sheets a try ASAP. My setup is like yours - Dillon polish, Lyman, and corncob media. Results are good, like your first batch, but could be better. Thanks for the tip.
Dribble some 'bug n tar' car polish or 'Brasso' brass polish into your media while your tumber is empty (of cases) and running so it won't bead up, let it dry, add brass cases, tumble for excellent results. Works for me.
The Dryer Sheet idea is was the Number One "results-oriented" one ever. Wiping out the Bowl with Mineral Spirits is another one. Starting out with a clean bowl and getting out as much dust/fouling with dryer sheets makes the media last many times longer...
How many pounds of brass would you say the max limit would be on this tumbler? What would you say the max weight would be before putting too much added stress on the motor?
