Greetings fellow travelers! In this video, we’ve just arrived in Mexico and will tell you about the different ways you can arrive in Tulum. Specifically, we’ll cover what’s required to get to Tulum if flying into Cozumel.
If not arriving by boat or as a day excursion from one of the cruise ships stopping in Cozumel or Cancun - you’ll either fly into Cozumel or Cancun.
Cozumel
-To get to Tulum, you’ll need to take a ferry to Playa del Carmen and then arrange transportation to Tulum.
After landing, you’ll first need to get to the Ferry Terminal. You can book a taxi from the airport, or take a shared van called a collectivo. The ride is only 7-9 minutes and should be around $10! We asked the official taxi stand inside the airport and they scammed us by charging us $26 USD. Make sure you ask to see a rate chart and go outside to ask multiple drivers waiting in the line. Our return taxi (ferry terminal to Cozumel airport told us it should be $10).
At the ferry terminal, purchase a ticket from one of the two companies depending on who’s departing first. It’s about a 45 min passage across to Playa del Carmen.

From Playa del Carmen, it’s about an hour drive, depending on traffic, to Tulum. We rented a car with Avis, but you can arrange private transport, take a collectivo or a bus (about $7): www.busbud.com...
-If arriving in Cancun, you have the option to either rent a car, arrange car service or taxi, take a collectivo or a larger bus. It takes about 2 hours to tulum.
