I hope you know youre not just doing home farming and vlogging. You're a true inspiration to tons of viewers. You're very important to society. Everything about you sparks light! Very nice man!
I can hardly believe this myself... my plantain had 4 stalks, my "banana circle" for yard decor. We had that hard freeze in February here in north central Florida (9a) and one of the stalks just hasn't put on new growth. I had cut it back a few inches, a couple of times, no luck, just dry, like it was dead. After watching this video, I grabbed my saw, and went all the way down the stalk (14"!) Until I saw green. I whacked that stalk at the 135° angle, dropped the piece in the middle of my circle, and walked away. ONE HOUR Lead, I swear on my parent's graves, this stalk was sporting over one inch of new growth rising up out of the center of that stalk. I was absolutely thunderstruck! I kept looking at it, figuring my eyes had to be lying, there's no way this could sprout forth that quick, right? But, it did, and i'm a believer in your methods now more than ever, you keep on teaching this student! Thank you Leadfarmer 73.
You're so right about feeding the tree. I wish I had known about keeping the leaves cut back, and cutting the babies off. I started 4 trees a few months ago they are about 6 ft tall with 1-2 babies growing on them, but I will remove them before the day is over😉. I did have a 2 trees in a few years ago 1 tree gave bananas I planted in April at 2 ft tall, to August over 10ft with 2 bunches. I watered daily when there was no rain, but I would use Black Cow manure, every other month, circling the trees a foot from the base of the tree, it grew very fast. The banana were very good, I cut one bunch when the banana's were about 4 inches long or so, the baby bananas, they were super sweeter.. The trees I have now I use the heads, guts, etc from fresh fish. Living on the Gulf Coast its plentiful. The fish markets will give it to you, the scraps, just bring your own bucket. I dig little trenches a few feet out from tree, cover it back with dirt Or potting soil, cause flies will come in the summer. I'm glad I came across your site. I have elephant ears, too. I have learned a great deal from you! Keep up the good works"
O thank you. I Got banana trees for 12 years but I learn alot tonight. I'm from South Africa in the Western Cape. It winter and rainy times, so I had to wait to do all the things you show.
I love the burro bananas. Not as long but thick, sweet, creamy. They have a more complex taste than the common cavendish banana . I definitely noticed summers that were extremely wet produced more bunches. Had 5 bunches last year with 30-50 bananas per bunch. I have at least 20 plants over 15 feet tall. After cutting them down I swear they can grow 1/2-1 inch a day from the center of the cut trunk. They actually get better tasting as the skin blackens unlike the cavendish which loses it's tartness and gets overly sweet.
Hi,Lead Farmer. This is Tsili in South Africa, please advice on what type of Banana tree I can buy and where online, have been planning to start growing them lately.I love your content. It's like a class I have to attend each time you release a video.
Bro, a fruit producing banana has sharp leaves vs rounder leaves of a non-fruit producing banana. The fruit producing plant is revered to as a silver sward vs. non-fruit producing water sucker.
Demetrius McClain not saying you’re wrong, but I’ve had 3 fruit producing plants and all of them have rounded leaves! I live in Orlando and my neighbor said banana plants do what they want when they want. If you want me to send pictures send me your #. Peace
i just love this video on your banana tips. thank you. i see your vid,s don,t come up like they should. i have to search thru my subscribtions and click on yours. i subscribed and hit the bell. youtube loads up what they want to. i stopped subscribing a couple of channels, and still get them. youtube picks what they want you to see.
@@leadfarmer73 exactly what I thought. How much do you sell them for? I also see you have some good farming skills. Im going to build be a above ground garden box in a few days. I could use a few pointers thanks
I have a question: Is there a number or leaves over time it is supposed to go through before the flower comes out? I think I read that there has to be something like 12-20 leaves. i figure with you chopping them, it gets new leaves quicker and gets to that point. Its weird because different people give different tips with the leaves. I'm gonna try your way though.
I'm in warm springs, GA near greeneville, ga. Mostly Georgia red clay, I do have some areas with darker better soil near our creek and other parts of the property however tall trees blocking sufficient sunlight. The areas with the best sunlight have that clay. Also have wet spots were banana trees can go in the clay. And a few sandy spots. Which area/soil on the property will do best? And which type of bananas will do well in my area and type of clay/dirt?
Hey man I've gotta cut down my bananas every year. What do u do with the stalk. I use the leaves for extra insulation on the ground, covering them up. But idk how to repurpuse them!!
Hey, I have a banana tree a friend gave me a few years ago. It have not produce fruit yet, don’t know if it’s a fruiting banana tree. Here a pictures of my banana trees
Guava Leadfarmer73, Thank you for this video, I have a couple banana trees in my yard, 1 of them has fruited with very small bananas and they are hard and dark green, I am in zone 9a/10b South Sarasota fl. How do I get the others ( pups from this one) to give good fruit or should I use them to make Magic water
Hello. I just a new gran nain baby plant and I am not sure how to plant it. Can you please help me? Thank you. I love your vids. So much good info. Keep it up🙂🙏💚🍌🍌🍌🍌🍌🍌🍌🍌
@@leadfarmer73 Yeah, the corm is good, I was just saying I had bananas the last.two years the first year the cold got them and last year the hurricanes we had knocked my.trees down but they are already huge now, I wish I could send you a pic of them
Yea that not going to happen any changes, my Hispanic mom won't allow a finger her banana, good thing I'm starting my own fruit trees & trying, I mean trying to show how it's done, but won't believe til it has 20+ fruit in any of my fruit trees
I got a pup about 5ft tall from a banana I saw fruiting. Had it in the ground for about 2 or 3 yrs. The banana has grown about 7 ft or more. Never fruited or had a pup. I wanted to chop it down because if youre not paying rent with produce I chop you down. Lol i didnt feed it or water it regularly. Just the compost I normally add during spring. Have always wondered why it never fruited. I recently started feeding it fish fertilizer and deep watering once or twice a week. Omg to my surprised last week after feeding, a couple of day later. I had my first pup. I'm a proud and happy daddy. Lol Keep up the good work.
the banana tree will only grow fruit once in their life thats why they have so many sprouts.. after that tree has fruit then its no longer of value unless you want it for just foliage
I like this guy. He's got knowledge 'and' attitude. I'm not going to grow bananas but I love listening to people who 'know' what they're talking about.
The Bull's Garden & Rabbitry glad that I could help bro. Trust me on this one. This technique really works! Bigger banana 🍌 trees better chances for fruit 🍌
Hello Lead, hey I found your channel a few months ago and been watching some of your videos. I'm in Charlotte NC and been growing fruits for over 20 years. I have loads of figs, paw paws, pomegranates, asian pears, lemons, tangerines, pomelos, persimmons, mulberries, jujubes, and starting this year----BANANAS! I've always wanted to grow bananas and after watching your videos on the Raj Puri cultivar, I plan on getting one in a few weeks. I have a Black Tie and Ice Cream trees in my garage chillin now but plan on planting them in the orchard right after Easter! I have a lot of videos I need to post here this month so if you get a chance check me out. I appreciate your enthusiasm about growing fruits! Keep up the good work! If you ever plan on coming up to Charlotte, by all means ping me and you're welcome to stop the house and say hello! Keep the video coming! I will support you! Be blessed! dj
I’m glad you said Charlotte, I’m here in Charlotte just starting my garden in containers. Being in the HOA neighborhood 🙄 but I’m trying and learning along the way. But if you have a RU-vid channel would love to subscribe
I'm glad I found your channel. I been living on my family's land in Sc for six months now. I know nothing about the country coming from a big city in Philly. I started growing avocado seeds a few months ago. I hope they will survive here
por si te interesa hay una variedad de aguacates que se llaman mejicola, que resisten 7,8 grados centigrados bajo cero, son los mas resistentes al frio, y dan un fruto muy sabroso
Love your videos. Got 3 fruiting bananas planted here in Oregon. Last year I cut them back to 3', I'm still playing with how far to cut them back. Then made wire cages and filled them with dry leaves with a tarp over & just left the bananas in ground. They survived and the oldest is now 8' and growing. Hoping to squeeze in enough heat to produce some bananas before the winter. Pro tip: Use a white tarp and decorate it with black duct tape and it'll look like a snowman all winter until your ready to uncover it.
I got a freebie banana pup from a friend. She said it was on her property when she moved there but she has never got fruit from it. However, she hasn’t ever cared for it. Now I put it into a pot because it’s little but it’s doing good. He loves water like you said and he loves compost. I am excited to try and get some fruit from him. I wonder if it will be any good.
I saw a farmer put fish head in his tree. It grew like crazy. How do i get in touch with you. My husband and I are in Sumter SC and have a small garden but a lot of land and my goal is to be able to live off our land! Thanks for sharing, im putting bananas on the list.
Hello. I started with a single banana tree as a small house plant many years ago. I quickly learned that they will become root bound. So the bigger the pot, the bigger they grow. As I transferred the plant to bigger pots it started having babies. I went from one plant to about 7 in one summer and then 15 to 20 trees the next summer. I do not know what species of banana tree I have. One thing interesting that happened is that the matriarch tree that is the momma to all of them grew tiny bananas. After it grew the bananas it died. I read somewhere that is the life cycle of these trees. Once they grow fruit they die. My trees look exactly like your tree in this video.
Wow! Thanks for sharing! I am growing two Musa banana trees indoors. Just got them a week ago in the mail. Looking forward to the adventure! SerenityGardenAviary
I live in Miami and my banana trees grow all year long. I use the grass clippings when i cut my lawn as fertilizer for my banana trees and they grow like crazy. I don't cut leave at all until they are dry. Love your videos.
@@genejaytre no when i cut my lawn, i usually use the bag on the lawn mower. Whenever the bag gets full, i just dump the clippings around the root just like if you were placing mulch. Additionally, you have to water in occassionally because the clipping generates heat. Do not put the clipping right up to the trunk of the banana trees. Hope this helps.
@@bandit4true how often do you get fruit from one tree. Growing up in the Caribbean we don't do anything to the banana trees in the back yard they just produce fruit drop younglings new plants grow and the cycle continues.
@@hanasl2582 i get fruit often and yes back in the Caribbean i didnt have to do much to banana trees once they were established. Here in Miami, the soil is very sandy and less fertile that's why you have to add different things to get the trees to grow better. I even have huge plantains but again you have to work with them. One thing we do have in abundance here in Florida is water and banana trees love water.
@@bandit4true now i just need to plant my dasheen and I'm good to go. Just dont know how to yet. Can't get a dasheen with roots yet. I will try to see if i can get one next time i go home.
