I’d really like to hear more about your personal journey and the path you took to become a practicing psychologist 🥰

Will share about that as well in the upcoming videos. My intro video to returning subscribers gives an intro that as well- but a more elaborative video will follow.

Hi Dr T. Thanks for the informative video 🙌🏽 I also bought your book: honours and masters selection unlocked and it’s been extremely helpful I have my honours in Psychology and this will be my second year applying for a masters, during my honours I had deal with a few life challenges and so my average for my honours is 61% which does meets the requirements at some universities, however I am concerned that may prevent me from even being called for the selection interviews. I have been working on developing my experience with volunteer work as lay counsellor. Is there any possibility of me getting into a masters program with my average? I also would like to know whether the hours spent volunteering as a lay counsellor with LifeLine can contribute to the 720 hours required by the hpcsa to register as a counsellor? Would appreciate your feedback 🙏🏽 thanks Dr T

Hey, I’m interested in doing my masters in neuropsychology however there isn’t much information about it where in SA and I know is only offered at UCT and they take about 6 people each year. I was wondering if you could share some light about it since there’s much information about it on most platforms

Hi Mikateko, thanks for the engagement and for your question. It is a challenge and indeed there is a shortage of information, which might be related to the fact that the programme is new (officially included by HPCSA in 2019 Nov), and also due to a lack of willingness to offer it due to curriculum demands. You must also take into cognisant that neuropsychology advocates had to go to court for it to be incorporated. into the psychology profession- so there is more to it and fewer developments around it. I have not followed it as well, but I am starting to give it attention due to some questions on the channel, as such I recommend the following: 1. Check the video I did about where you can study psychology just to confirm if there is no other institute that offers it. 2. if you still come with the same info - I will follow up with HPCSA as well. 3. Look out for a video - I will interview someone before the end of Feb who just completed her neuropsychology masters and has started an internship, she will share more info about it. I hope that provides some clarity.

What can one do to prepare for masters (while still in honours) , experience wise. What will look good for your application?

Thanks Yandii, and good to hear that you are already thinking of preps to masters. There is a two part video is scheduled for today at 18:00, check it out as I speak about Dealing with rejection from Hons and Masters in psychology, i also speak about how to mitigate that, or prevent rejection which will help you prepare before applying. In the mean time, you can also check out a video where i interview a clinical psychologist - he also shares about what prepared him for masters.

Hey I wanted to ask, do you have to be completely done with your honours before you can start applying for masters, or you can apply while in your honours year?
@lifeinitsfullness1711
@lifeinitsfullness1711 Год назад
As far as i know you apply with your honours, that is how it has been, there will then give you provisional acceptance on the condition that you maintain the marks. Otherwise you will end up with a gap year which does not make sense. I will do a video on that in by next week- check it out when I share about preference of each Universities there seems to be difference in approach.

Is it true that when one has done their Masters through Unisa they are not able to register with the Council?
@lifeinitsfullness1711
@lifeinitsfullness1711 Год назад
It is not true, as UNISA does have a Clinical Psychology masters that is accredited by HPCSA. I will do a video this week sharing which institute has an accredited masters. It also depend what masters you are referring to, the Psychology of Education is not accredited but they are in the process, so with it you will definitely not be registered with HPCSA. Nonetheless, if you are already in it, there are alternative path, i don’t think it is a loss, you will still accredited some of the modules if you get into to Educational Psychology masters.
