Thank you for the helpful information, I have received an unconditional offer to study Ms Social work. I have a young child and organise ahead for the start date this September! Thank you
Started last week, I can definitely feel the strain already despite coronavirus and less classroom contact. It is a very intense course and needs planning! Great tips btw 👌🏾
Aww that's great! Planning is the best preparation. It will get more intense but always remember why u decided to do this course. You will be done before you know it. All the best with ur studies! 👏🏿
@@gaimmedia I’m in Worcester university. It’s been really difficult with the virus and not being able to actually go in for lectures. I haven’t enjoyed it to be honest
Very insightful and informative, thank you sis! I also went to UWL for my BA in psychology with counselling theory, I’m now looking to do an ma in social work.
@@simplydadii actually I am mother of two kids and currently I am residing in UAE. There is university Fair of Uk in our country so I am going to attend that there 50+ universities. My cousin is residing in East England Essex so I am looking for universities near to that location. Will they provide scholarship to us
@@jincybennymobin2836 ok that's great, If they are doing a fair for UK universities they are trying to recruit students so maybe there is probably an incentive like scholarships. But that will probably be depended on each university. As you want to be near your cousin in Essex, I am not sure if the University of Essex offer this course but u can check on the UCAS website, it is a great resource. You will also be able to check other universities in or near Essex. I suggest you check out the universities you want to approach at the fair on this website. Then you will have a plan & can ask them questions regarding funding & scholarships at the fair. Best wishes with everything.
Hi that's brilliant, what were your working hours and how long were classes through out the 5 day week? I am currently working for social services as a PA, I have children and I am applying for the MA. My worries is obviously I still need to earn, if classes are like for 2 hours each day then I can work as my work are very flexible... Also how did you work and do placement, I was going to ask the university if I could use work as a placement... But at the same time I would like to experiences other areas so may need to use Al to do that if possible. Just a heads up to everyone, I have a psych degree 1:1 however I don't have English gcse which I'm about to complete... No uni will let you go through with out the gcse
Hi Shelby, I had shift based work, so I could swap shifts with colleagues and used annual leave. I was in class all week. I am not sure what a PA is but I am sure you can speak to the university to allow you to do placement in the local authority you work. I have seen people do this with the open university, distance learning, so not too sure about university. There are different teams in local authorities so you could ask to do placement in a different team to where you work.
Thank you. Yes, I have previously worked in social care as a health care assistant. Any experience in social care industry is taken into consideration.
I can't completely remember the test as I was completely nervous that day. Lol From what I recall it was an aptitude test which assesses an individual's appitute to become a social worker. It's like a career test evaluating a person's capability to work as a social worker.
Thanks so much for the video. I had my first degree in Mass Communication so it has nothing to do with Social work. However, I would like to do an MA in Social work. In preparing for this do I necessarily need a diploma in health and social care or just an experience in HSC is fine. Secondly, I have got a GCSE equivalent from my country (WAEC), is their a converter or do I need to take a GCSE in the Uk? Thanks in advance.
Hi @Eucharia Udie, you just need experience in HSC. E.g. working as a care assistant, volunteering at a local church run youth centre offering advocacy & support to young people seeking help or volunteering on a help-line offering support to people in the community. I think you should be able to use the equivalent GCSE's from your country. But I would suggest you check out the UCAS International qualifications booklet (www.ucas.com/sites/default/files/2015-international-qualifications.pdf). All the best!
Hi,thanks for this video it is quite insightful ,I am based in Nigeria, and I have HND in physics hence I would like to do pre-masters in social work, which university is best for me to apply into, and do I have chances of been admitted considering my qualification
Hello, from my understanding if you have been practising social work in Ghana you can apply directly for a job with agencies. But if you would rather do a masters then apply via UCAS.
Hi! Can you explain something about MRes social work? Will I be able to get psw after completing this or I have to take on PhD after this. If I am eligible for psw then how well are employment opportunities after MRes??
Hi Harsha, I don't get the abbreviations so I am going to try my best to answer. I am guessing u are asking about job prospects after a post graduate/ masters social work course. Well there are plenty here in the UK. You can work for a local authority, hospital, school, prison. There only difference is that it is either childrens or adult SW.
@@simplydadii My asking about the Masters in Research in Social Work. It's 12 months program. Actually m holding an offer in MRes in Social Work from Dundee n bath university n now m worried about what options I will have after completing this course.
@@harshatri1546 Masters in research in Social work is about policy around social care. If u want to be a social worker u need to do a SW course where u also do social work placements. Social work is a protected career so you have to do the proper course to be one. I don't really know about job prospects if you do the research course. All I know is wat I have done. All the best!
Hello, you can put your question here, it might help someone else too. I will try answer as best as I can. You can also drop me a msg on insta @SimplyDadii. What is your query?🙂
Do you have to have gcse maths and english 💔 I’m doing childhood studies degree in September but I want to do a masters in social work☹️ but I don’t have gcses I’ve already completed my level 3 health and social care
If you have functional skills, it is equivalent to GCSE. London met take functional skills at level 2 english I think & theres nothing about maths. Check the specific uni requirements. Don't be afraid to call & ask them about requirements.
Hi, I’m applying to do a masters in social work and I have a few questions about student finance and funding. Mainly; all the social work masters I’ve seen are 2 years so does student finance pay for both years or they give you the 11k and then the rest you sort out? Or is it an exemption course in which they treat it like an undergraduate loan
@@aphiwedegreat975 not from her but the answer is; student finance give you the 11500+ but divide it over the two years of your course. So you’d get half of the loan in your first year and the other half in your second. Social work isn’t an exemption course so you would have to fund the balance yourself. There’s also the Social work bursary but they only pay around 4600 and you’re not entitled to student loan so again, you’d have to fund the balance yourself (the bursary depends on your uni and not everyone is granted) Hope this helps
I think it depends on personal preferences & circumstances. Plus the league table which gives a comparative idea of how a uni is doing. But for obvious biased reasons I think Brunel University is a good Uni for social work.
Hello. I am Eugenia from Nigeria.!Can you drop your email address please . I am gathering my certifications for an MSW in the Uk. Can I please send you my personal statement to scrutinize when it’s ready? Please 🙏🏾
Hi Eugenia, firstly congrats! Unfortunately I am unable to read your personal statement for you. I can suggest some tips for a good statement: 1.Talk about why you want to do the course 2. Talk about your experiences past & present that would make the social worker role suitable for you or that interested you in the course 3.Talk about past studies & transferable skills gained 4. Experience of social care, paid or voluntary 5. I would also suggest you look at Professional Capabilities Framework (PCF) this framework is used to show the nine levels of social work in England. Use it to identify the stage you are at & define your professional capabilities in your statement. All the best with your application!
