Grateful to have found your channel. There are very few channels showing content about dermatology in the UK. Please keep posting videos. They’ll be very helpful for someone who’s trying to decide
Hello! How have you been doc? I would be very interested to know a day in your life! Could you make a 'day in my life' vlog? Good luck for your future endeavours 🌻
Great video, thanks Chris! I'm currently torn between dermatology and a few surgical specialties. I know they have allowed surgical trainees to apply directly to ST3 derm but I wonder realistically how possible/successful has this been in your experience, and whether such applicants are disadvantaged compared to IMT applicants?
I think it is definitely possible and I have known people who have done non-medical specialties like surgery and paediatrics before obtaining a NTN. Surgery would definitely be useful for Dermatology as we do skin surgeries as well! I would however say that a lot of skin conditions are related to internal medicine so having a good grasp of medicine would definitely be useful. All in all, you won't be placed at a disadvantage when it comes to specialty application, though you may want to consider doing more dermatology related projects to help boost your CV!
Thank you for the video! was really helpful especially in the uk as there is not much videos on this, but I would love to know what courses should I take in medicine in order to become closer to being a dermatologist?
Hi Chris These are some great videos! Keep going. I just had a question for you. I’m currently repeating 4th year of medicine in the uk, I was wondering If failing exams or relating years would affect my ability to apply to dermatology. Looking forward to hearing from you! Thanks a lot !
Thank you for the video! Do the publications and quality improvement project have to be in dermatology or is any publication/QI project also give points?
It can be on any specialty/ topic to get the points, though I have to say, doing a project in Dermatology will certainly help when it comes to the interview station. It shows commitment to specialty!

I co-authored 4 research papers and one of them has a very high impact factor and was published in a famous neurology journal. I also did a Stanford nutrition course. Does that help at all? Also-which online post-MD dermatology course would you recommend?
Hello Dr Chris! I'm a junior doctor in India, waiting to give my PLAB 2 exam. I've always wanted to become a dermatologist. I'm glad I found your channel. Also wondering if it is mandatory to do training in teaching only in the UK. Or could I do it here in India and add it in my portfolio?
I think it's better for you to train in the UK if you are thinking of practising here long-term. Certainly, you can do it in India and move over to the UK once you have completed but it will be more challenging. Not only do you need to show evidence that you are qualified to practise as a consultant (mapping your evidence to the UK curriculum to obtain CESR-CCT), you also need to find your feet around the UK system ie working life/ environment, language, food etc.

Hi Dr. Chris, I am pursuing MD Dermatology in India. After obtaining my 3 years MD Dermatology degree from India, which is the best route to work as a Dermatologist in U.K. for 3 years ? Not as a consultant. Do I have to complete full MRCP course for this? After that can I work as a Dermatologist Registrar. I require 3 years Dermatology experience certificate to appear for Middle East Dermatologist licence exam. Your guidance is highly appreciated. Thanks
No you don't actually! There are various routes you can take to become a dermatologist in the UK. You can take the either the surgical or paediatric route and obtain qualifications for them ie MRCS and MRCPCH. However, you will need to show IMY2 competencies or do a year of medical rotations.
