hi! idk if you're still replying to comments or of you'll even see this but I needed some advice. I'm an international student from a country where musical theatre experience is really hard to get. we don't have community theatres like you do in the States, as such, I have no experience with musical theatre. I still want to pursue it though, do you suggest I apply to BFA programs directly (with no experience) or go to a BA program first, get some experience and then transfer to a BFA program?
Hello!! Yes I am still responding :) I wouldn't recommend transferring from a BM program to a BFA program since they both tend to be four year programs and they don't all allow you to transfer without starting over your four years. I don't believe getting into a BM program would be easier than getting into a BFA program. This of course all depends on how much acting, dancing and singing training you have. If you are pretty solid in 2+ of these categories they may overlook your lack of experience in musicals. You could look into a certificate program like AMDA which is two years and allows you to transfer to another school for your last two years. You could also look into BA programs or smaller programs like Christopher Newport University etc. Hope this helps!
