Breaking up deer food plots visually so more deer will feed in your plots earlier in the evening before it gets dark. Using screens like strips of milo, sorghum or corn in your food plots is an easy to break them up without eliminating any food. Not recommended to to use food as a screen for your access trails to your hunting blinds and stands.

If you check normal corn fields, the outside 2-3 rows generally are shorter and produce smaller stalks and ears. We call it border effect. Essentially all the rows you planted are border effect. They don’t need to compete for sunlight so they will stay shorter than if they were planted in a normal field. It’ll be interesting to see how deer are affected. Interesting experiment thinking outside the box.

Great design and utilizing a variety of structure & food, those deer are going to be very comfortable in that field this fall!

I plant a total of 5 acres in corn . It's mostly broke up and used as screening/ cover. In the winter it provides food as I don't cut it or mow until the end of spring. It makes a huge difference in a heavy pressured deer area.

I love structure in foodplots. They are more comfortable coming out in daylight as well. Very nice work.

Randy, great info...thanks for sharing. Years ago we would plant 4 rows of corn in a cross pattern on our small plots to divide them so the bucks would have to go through the plot to visually check for does. We haven't tried much Milo as of yet, but plan on doing so in the future, not sure if we planted in August if it would do much. We are trying to get down to one fall food plot planting in Mid-August and just keep the fields clean during the summer. Thanks, Bob

I think i might test corn and beans plant together randomly. Think that itll do similar objectives but might not look as nice. Then top seed rye red clover in late August.
