The UBK 1 has se facto become the secret standard holy grail for Modern American engineers. It is just as essential as Echoboy, RVox, etc. it is a problem solver, and a sound creator. And it has been such for 10 years. It extrudes goodness, like a well done spaghetti carbonara.
This was revolutionary for me. I never previously thought of compression as a way of changing "movement", more just as simple dynamic adjustment or transient control. Super cool and very informative - love how different these videos are to the usual kind you get on RU-vid.
We're going into AU beta this week, so my fingers (and toes, and eyes) are crossed that we're looking at a Christmas release for all native versions. Wish me luck, this thing is an animal!
Listening to this with my HD650 headphones and wow, this is like ASMR for audio engineers. That music with that voice is just perfect, haha. Amazing plugin and great walkthrough!
This thing is really magical. 11 years old and I still love this plugin. Compression as a movement effect is so cool as well. Thanks for so many cool videos Gregory!
I am a man first and I was bashing this man and his plugins for what reason I don’t know but I am going to apologize here in public I subscribed to the Kush audio plugins and omg I mixed rap vocals so fast crispy fat clear and omg with only this plugin and 2 other Kush plugins , best plugins I used and heard in my life I’m a fan for life these plugins changed my whole way of mixing with having to cut things and this is a game changer
What a classy post, thanks for the support man! And I'm with you, ubk-1 KILLS on rap vocals, the Smooth comp setting was actually tuned with those in mind as I was mixing a lot of hip hop at the time in NYC :-)
@@TheHouseofKushTV I need to do a purge of a handful of the many plugins I've collected that are just gathering digital dust. Looking at you waves bundle.... (some are great, loads are unnecessary)
Sweetest compressor in my mixing toolbox and one of the best out there to me. SO versatile and just plain fun to work with. n the down side, the limitless possibilities can suck you into the rabbit hole if you're not careful. All five different comp settings all have their own wonderfully unique characteristics and tone and they really do what they say they do. Love the videos and your groove. Thanks for taking the time to pass on all the great tips and tricks.
Wondrous - a really nice take you have on the whole audio experience - and your choice in music to work with too (for what I've heard, very nice) cutting back on all the unnecessary editing rather than cutting out all the good audio. Very nice.
Hey Gregory, just wanted to say I originally swung by to see what the clarphonic was all about because I see em all the time and hadn't really played with one yet. I demoed the plugin and ended up getting the whole subscription. I have never been more inspired by such uniquely thoughtful and tastefully clever plug-ins. Watching the routing and blending options sparked some amazing ideas... thanks for the museletter as well!!! Love your videos and and some of the hidden gems at the end of them. The one about never giving up was incredible. Thanks for being. Cheers - Rob
For anyone thinking about teaching or explaining how to use a plugin, watch this video on exactly how to do it first. In less than 15 minutes I feel like i know this plugin as if I have used it for several years
This gave me such an cool idea. To add interest/drama in the song you could mute the bypass the compressor in the first, start it up in the pre chorus or chorus. Things like this could sort of keep the listeners attention
I like that you put the saturator before the compressor. I used to setup my signal chain the other way around so the saturation would be more consistent... but these days I like the dynamic element that saturating before compression imparts.
Just demoed this and WOW! Sounds so warm and sweet! Only thing I can remark on is the size of the GUI. It's a bit hard to make out the text on a 4k monitor :/
I want your gear and plugins but I cant afford them haha. Especially that Clariphonic EQ. Whoa is that thing special. This is a great lesson in parallel processing, not just a good advertisement.
The drum-part is basically new york style compression (or parallel compression) where one track is overcompressed and the other is uncompressed. Slap an eq on there, and you can do the same thing in any DAW equally fast. I DO like that headroom-thing though.
@@JohnMarshall-NI Hmm, I appreciate the offer dude. I recently had to shell out some dough for my Pro Tools. How much are you selling it for? There's no link to Kush's transfer info?
@@JohnMarshall-NI I've never actually tried selling any of my plugins. I definitely have a bunch I don't use. I'll have to look into this. As if guitar gear wasn't expensive enough, then I have to add DAW shit on top of it!
Got Pandora? Try the Mad Men station. For composers, check out Henry Mancini, Bert Kaempfert, etc. Jazz artists, Stan Getz, Miles Davis. Hell, check out Cinematic Orchestra's In Motion for a modern cut-up take on the genre :-)
Personally I run my projects at 48 24 and use a plugin doctor to upsample my plugis as far as they go. Preferably 192. So I would love to know the sample rate of this plugin.
Gregory is a damn spook. I admit, I am embarrassed and I'm actually feeling somewhat ill. I just discovered this channel this week. (Having had Kush plugins subbed for years.) I'm embarrassed because I'm clearly an idiot for not seeking out this channel more diligently ... ill because my work could have been so much better for the knowledge Mr. Scott is sharing. I want to scream and pound the walls. I want to shave my head. I want to change my name. I want to change my dog's name. However ... I shall gather myself, collect my wits, and merely thank Kush and Gregory for making this available; Thank you Mr. Scott.
I don't get their subscription. If you were to buy all their plugins it would be about $1,200 but you can get all the plugins for $99 a month? Do they leave out any plugins?
We don't leave anything out of the subscription. The idea is that for $9.99/month or $99/year, you get everything in our catalog and every new release. So as long as we drop at least one $149 plugin a year you're ahead of the game. In the past year, we've released $178 worth of plugs so our subscribers are doing very well, especially those that owned only a few (or none) before they subscribed. The downside is you don't own anything when you subscribe, so if you cancel, your access is cut off. That's the tradeoff, and many people still prefer to pay more in the long run, they want the security of ownership. But if you like the Kush brand, and are confident you'll use everything we release, subscription is an unbeatable value!
The Kush monthly subscription is, in my opinion, the best value for money of any toolset available for rent on the market. Honestly, 9.99 a month would be justified for Clariphonic alone. These plugins are simply magical, and you guys should be fucking proud of what you've achieved here. A genuine A+ for effort and quality. The sounds that come out of your gear testify to the love and dedication you guys have for music. I literally cannot listen to my mixes without your tools on my master bus. Truly magical.
Interesting business model. I think it would make a lot of sense to create a model where the customer owns all current and future plugins after 5 years of subscription. This gives people incentive to remain subscribed to your company, rather than buying one plugin, or subscribing for a year or two and then moving onto the next thing. Sort of like the Waves Mercury bundle. Or $400 for a lifetime subscription up front.
Interesting thoughts. I guess it comes down to whether you, as a business owner, are confident you can continue to find ways to add increasing value, as well as introduce compelling new products, such that you can retain a customer's business for more than 4 years, and continue to attract new customers both for the short and long term. The vast majority of businesses offering subscriptions seem to exhibit that confidence. TBH, if I saw a company selling permanent access to everything they ever make --- for a small multiple of the cost of 1 year's access --- I would venture a guess that they're having cashflow problems, as it seems incredibly shortsighted :-/
ubk-1 is likely to drop in the next 7 days, and goldplate is on track for later this month. Thanks for your patience, these 2 plugins have proven very... challenging!
The Bob Ross of audio-engineering everybody... "We just use a little bit of the whettt signal and mix it in. You don't really need to know what you're doing.. just kiss your mix with a little dab of this.. remember, we don't make mistakes.. these are happy little accidents.."
