NAT Type 1 = open network, no router/firewall NAT Type 2 = has a router/firewall NAT Type 3 = closed network, firewall blocking You can have an open network on both NAT Type 1 and a NAT Type 2 network. With a NAT Type 2 you just have to configure some things in your router like open the DMZ to your PS4. No need to have NAT Type 1
@@Athaeme if you think rambling about his channel, and nonsense about ports is useful, then watch the whole video. However, you just want to fix your NAT type skip to 3:50.
Great explication. Far and away the best on RU-vid. It is interesting as to why Sony chooses to use the terms Type 1, 2, and 3 on the network dashboard. I think this just leads to a lot of confusion amongst the less tech inclined gamers. So many big gaming channels use the term NAT Type 1 and Open NAT interchangeably. They are not the same at all.
It would have been super cool if you explained WHY I might want Type 1 instead of Type 2. According to your example, your speeds were MUCH faster as Type 2.
In general if you need to ask you should not have NAT type 1 for your safety. NAT type 1 is typical useful for setting up servers which you want to have a static external IP i.e. it can be reached from anywhere using that IP. The common misconception is it holds back games if it isn't NAT type 1.
Thanks guys. I'm an old guy that isn't super well versed in the technical side of this stuff. I just want to get in there and shoot people in the games with the least amount of lag possible.
Thank you for the video. I now know why my internet is very slow downloading games, and what the different NAT Types are and what they mean. Basically I will have to invest more money into my internet services to go for a wired connection it’s that simple. Additionally I know how to benefit fully off of it also.
I had a nat type3 and wasn’t able to play with my friends on cod or parties said can’t hear me because of nat issues... I went for the router configuration and turned on uPnP and was able to get me to type 2 and never had any issues after that.. most recent routers have the option. Even with a 120 download 25 upload I had issues btw
You missed a setup. You can connect a hub (or a router configured to operate as a hub) to the modem. Every device on the hub will be given a different public IP. Note that ISP's will likely require a service upgrade to allow this. It used to cost about $10/mo per extra public IP from one of my old ISP's but I have also seen it as a free feature. In this type of setup, a router can be connected to the hub to have a separate network that operates on a separate public IP. One reason to have this sort of setup was that UPnP used to be very hit and miss and if needing to run multiple computers/devices that needed the same ports forwarded, it would oftentimes not work properly with some routers. Also if running multiple servers on the same ports and same internet connection, like multiple different websites.
Great video helped me alot to realise that i hade a shitty ISP dmz, portforwarding and upnp would never work when i called them they told me"you cannot get nat type 2 or 1 on a mobile broadband but i realised that it was because of them they were shit cause the home network name never had shit related to them only another company they said that it was a "nätmask" as it is in swedish so i got a new router and everything works i got open nat on my games with port forwarding and upnp
dmz in most home routers just opens all your ports to a single device in your private network, but it doesnt give it a public ip. Its like activating port forwarding for all ports to a device. Your router might have a more expanded definition of what dmz typically is on a home router which it calls DMZplus. At 5:10 it says once you activate this feature your other hosts with private ips wont be able to communicate with the host in DMZplus, which seems to suggest that it will get a public ip making it more like an actual modem passthrough feature not the typical home router dmz. On my home router for example placing the ps4 in dmz opened my nat in games but left the psn nat to type 2. I had to activate a feature that allowed devices to make their own PPPoE connections. Then configured the connection on the ps4 with PPPoE and then i got type 1.
So, my friend who uses his data hotspot to play on his PS4 has never had NAT Type 3 before until recently, and now he can't play most games with us, like Minecraft or CoD or Fighterz. He can still play Apex and a couple other games, but that's it. It kinda sucks. Is there any reason why he's now got Type 3 all of a sudden? I wish there was a way to fix this, but we haven't been able to find a way to yet.
there is no benefit. Possibly if you live in USA and you're playing multiplayer and you cannot connect with your friend who lives in remote areas of Japan then it's possible it could help with pairing but there are no Ping or latency benefits at all
@@TurboSpeedWiFi nope. I have one in my room and the other 2 are in the upper lounge and main lounge. All of them are 100mbps but i used to get nat 3. Now i get nat 2 which is good imo
disconnect the ethernet cable going the "WAN" or "Internet" port on the back of your router and plug it directly into the PS4, if it goes to NAT 2, it's because your network is not configured correctly
Can the router+ modem combo method allow other devices to connect to the same connection, or is the same with method 1 where only the ps4 gets the connection? Thanks.
So what’s the connection difference then? Will Nat type 1 give me a better connection and therefor make me host in these online servers making me faster?
DMZ doesn't mean NAT type 1, Its just to avoid Port limitiations, NAT type 1 just means your PS4 is connected directly to the internet, Nat 2 is with a Router or Modem and Nat 3 is Router or Modem and additional firewalls that your ISP is applying to your connection like NAT44. also you can have NAT 1 with WiFi.
Did you see that 800 megabite download speed!! Edit: how are people still correcting my spelling 4 months later, I’m not going to change it either way!
spoken with a general public in mind. Not everyone is educated in this field of the internet. So it was not rambling but detailed specific info. explaining. Many auto mechanics get to the point and tell you that it needs this and that without explaining why the problem came about or what lead up to it. Easy money because you believe whatever he told you right to point. Anyway, Im rambling so, Unless they start talking about how they are in vacation and ramble about the weather, the location, blah, blah, blah other than the topic. Then its rambling. Another thing is telling me how to use a certain product in bottle and telling me 1st that you're going to unscrew the lid. DUH!
He has no reason to “ramble” for 7 minutes long idiots.. he’s just informing those that are lost / answering questions that will be asked, and if he was about that ‘money’ it would’ve been for 10 minutes... y’all just dumb, there’s a fast forward button for a reason, then again y’all have an answer for that too right ?
wow your awesome, way back when 10 years ago i taught myself alot of stuff just using google and experimenting which was great but alot of my knowledge is duct tape fixes 😂 your good at taking things that are not fully understood by many people and point blank in few words explaining exactly what each thing is ands whats happening, i love it 🤗 subbin, watchin all your shit xD
Some ISPs provide only NAT 2 by default (from the cable). So if you activate DMZ and open specific ports in your router it will still be NAT 2. You need to contact your ISP for that and usually you won't get anything from the support. So just accept it, you're stuck with nat 2.
Alex Košić if you dmz your PS4 and forward the same ps4 ports you will have issues. Either forward the ports or DMZ not both. You can brick your router. I did.
Good video man. I have RG that you have and my setup is, RG, Asus rt-ac3100 and all my devices running off my asus. I have 4 ps4's in home and all get nat type 2 and they could all be on at the same time. Fiber is working great man I have had no issues, other that I really do not need qos on my ac3100 anymore.
Thaks a lot for clarifying, was getting Open NAT on Call of Duty but the PS4 was still Type 2, thought I had to physically "open" a port on the PS4 lol
PS4 NAT type 1 meaning (open): NAT type 1 ps4 is Best for PS4 but not good at the point of security. ... It is similar to having DMZ enable so all the ps4 ports are open and it may lead to a security threat to your network. TPs4 nat type 1 is best for gaming but not for router security purpose.
Nothing. The Playstation 4 is not designed to make any services that requires a public IP. But it is possible, since it is an IP network device. BUT! You could be in a situation where your PS4 is behind a firewall that blocks certain services. Such as remote play. You could go around the NAT and just connect your PS4 to the WAN. It is overkill, but possible.
It's literally the most flawless connection I've played on since I mentioned it on your video the other day. The ethernet switch idea has really panned out for me. I can let my ps4 use all my connection. Then, the other devices behind the router, i can limit by enabling a qos and limit their available bandwidth. But hey, some people might just want all their devices behind a router and just be done with it but the gameplay is flawless with all ports opened.
EldestTheGreat Hey Eldest, which netgear switch did u get? As I face similar issue with my setup I've noticed. As I'm not the only ps4 using the connection and a good switch would be nice.
Tray HFK they're good if you run out of Ethernet ports on your router. Or if you want multiple wired devices connected in a separate room from your router
I have open Open Nat type as my PS4 is in my DMZ, but I have Nat Type 2 when I do an internet test ... So what are the advantages to having Nat type 1? As you recommend having Nat type 2.
This dude knows a lot though DMZ or UPNP is old school but only to one device the other ps o xbox needs more and you gotta pay more for it, or port forward the default ports
Question : i just bought a second playstation for play warzone with my brother. Both console are connected with a cable to the router. We both have a nat type 2 after the connection test at the sametime The problem is, we can not play call of duty warzone if both console are on. Only one user can have the access and for the other its a connection failed. Do you have an idea ?
YO bro tthank u so much this worked well however i had to chnage my mtu stettingas well from 1500 to 1496 and now it logs in every time without a hitch
***I am trying to open the ports for Battlefield 3 on PS3. *** MY QUESTION IS: Do I need to restart my router after I have added the ports or do I just click save? Also, when I add the ports, do I add only the game's port or are there other ports that I also need to add? I am kind of confused on how my system will know whether it should be nat type 2 or 1.
So you cant have nat type one if your ps4 is connected to your router which is connected to the internet modem provided by my isp? Because that is my current setup and cant play for shit with my friends cause i have nat type 3
What if MY PS4 is connected to my laptop and my laptop is sharing its WiFi through the Ethernet and i turn off its Firewall You think I’ll get bat type 1?
