Very true. Grant is my coach and gave me the same advce last month when I tweaked my back after being on vacation for a week. I came back from vacation and had to do a heavy deadlift. I tweaked my back and informed Grant. Grant gave me the same advice and I glad I listened to him. Pain subsided after just a few days.
Muscle tweaks are common. At 58 years young, I choose to just train around them and gradually reintroduce the movement to lower loads and gradually return to my regular old man strength. You are correct: living causes back pain...but it usually dissipates with time.
My SOP for a tweaked back is to do bird dogs at home, then an elliptical or assault bike at the gym, and then deadlifts with a trap bar. I know that Rippetoe has raged against the trap bar quite a bit, but my understanding is that this is precisely what it was designed for: lifting around a tweaked/injured back. I've generally found that my back is back to normal after one or two gym sessions with that protocol.
I don’t agree with this video. I tried to do one rep of 135 and it felt like my back was going to explode. Tried to walk and my glute was killing me every time I took a step forward. Instead of listening to this idiot I listened to my back. Did back extensions and felt much better. Don’t do the barbell movements yet
Stop heavy barbell deadlift start using the trap bar. Change the SS style of the Good Morning Squat. Its extremely dangerous according to Dr Stuart McGill a Scientist
