Personally I just went across the water instead of around the edge, they did appear at the top of the rocks waiting for me as I climbed but after a few seconds they went away, clearly de-aggro'd.
Honest question Austin, do you actually get to enjoy these wonderful games? You pump these videos out so fast that I feel bad the community kinda makes you speed run your adventures. Hope you're enjoying Tears of the Kingdom as much as we all are!
That’s a good question. I’ve always just thought he likes helping out people like me who get stuck on the silliest of things. Though I’m sure he also loves looking for new things in the game that nobody else has ever done. That seems like a great experience to me.
1. Equip weapon to dupe 2. Hard save 3. Drop weapon you want to dupe, equip any other of the same type (sword, bow, shield) 4. Unpause and pause again as quickly as possible, will take a few tries at first 5. Drop newly equipped weapon 6. Load the hard save you made previously 7. If done correctly, profit

A tip for the Octorock repairing... put your sages away, Tulin has a habit of one shotting the damn thing by sniping before you get a chance to get your stuff repaired.
Hey you know there’s an easier way to get the shield where you can avoid the hand monster. If you go to about where you meet the captain of the search party for link and Zelda, if you climb down a few feet you will find the tunnel that is right behind where you get the shield
3:30 it does seem like the walls were made like that for that reason. knowing how much detail they put in i wouldn’t be surprised. however even if they didn’t they would say “well we intended so there can be multiple solutions to one thing”
FASTER/EASIER WAY TO GET THE SHIELD: From Lookout Landing head north to the castle. Activate the shrine along the way for a fast travel spot for later. After the main gate turn northeast and go up to the very top of the non-floating area. (Could also go northwest and speak to Hoz to get that done to, either before or after getting the shield. Either way it’s easy to get to both from that top layer) If you go right around -133, 1125 coords and face the chasm the castle floats over, look for a decayed stone pathway leading to the edge of the chasm. Directly under is a cave, go in and you’re right at the spot up need to be to shoot the arrow. Minimal climbing (ascend is your friend!) no ultra hand or rafts needed, no gloom hand run ins. You may see a wizzrobe or two along the outer edges of the eastern side, just avoid them and they won’t even mess with you.
There's also a cave hidden almost directly above the brasier you need to light. From first guardhouse, go to the right and run around/paraglide to the north/northeastern rim to find the cave on a ledge. Go down some stairs and you're standing at the torches Edit: standing in the cave entrance, coordinates are -0135, 1085, 0064
If you remember from BOTW the library had a passageway to the docks behind one of the bookcases. You can still remove that bookcase and it opens up to the outside. If you paraglide from the opening, you can actually find the opening to the passageway to the docks. You can fly in, light your torch and get the Hylian shield without having to face the Gloom Spawn (unless you want to face them) .I’ve seen several vids about getting the shield and no one seems to mention that way.
First time I ran into the gloom death hands is at the beginning of the game ABOVE GROUND. Had no idea what it was. That music started playing and they chased me down….I stood no chance with my 5 hearts. I thought I was in a horror game for a second. True story…never touched a chasm since I thought that’s what they were on the map until the Josha mission which I didn’t do until 2 temples in…

Wonder if bargainer statues in the depths sell it like Cece does (but for poes). Not the aboveground one. I know they sell rare stuff too like some of the amiibo items you've obtained before

A few days ago i saw a post on the totk reddit asking where the shield was without a direct answer. One person commented a riddle that was: where once a hidden shrine was risen by fire, now lays a chest with the bounty you desire. People are amazing sometimes.

I hot this blue shirt with a lobster on it as a side quest that has heat resistance. You find it on a side quest looking through chest in Lucelin Village after you destroy the monsters and restore it. It's sweet...as the boys wanted to find it for their dad...and he gives it to Link. As he found his old one and his wife removed the stain. LOL.
personally, i use the crystal for a tower, chest for important places i need to check out, the little diamond waypoint thing for shrines (which he does in that video, there’s a shine at that diamond thing on his map), and then skulls for mini bosses
🤣 So in TOTK, they DID implement something with Hyrule castle similar to BOTW - although lighting the same torch in the back on BOTW actually made a shrine pop up from the ground. Man now I'm really dying to get this game !!!!!! 🙂
Oh you went around the long way - I used the sky tower to fly to the castle - and there's a great amount of powerful loot inside and you can scale down from there
The bug with the shield not being available at all if you don't take it out of the chest and fast travel away sounds scary, I hope they fixed that in one of the patches...
So quick question, Austin (and hardcore players), was there any line of dialogue in the game that tells you where the shield was or who sells it after? Because if Nintendo was betting on me to scan the whole map top to bottom, or go through a guide, that's neglectful game design.

Suggestion: you should do a " best vehicles in totk" I made one with three small tire's and the steering stick, two tires upfront on the sides and one on the back of the steering stick, it has very low battery consumption decently fast and can be used as a boat " if you put a fan on it" and if you don't have the materials for it, it only costs 12 zoniate, so super cheap
Great tutorial! For the record, I think the hands are actually called floor masters, especially since they look almost exactly like the floor masters from windwaker!
These are different enemies. I thought the same thing, though! They are officially named “gloom stalkers” and when you kill them, they spawn a miniboss enemy (I will not spoil what it is though).
The Poe statue things also seem to sell some unique items i haven't tried with the shield yet, possibly they only sell amiibo items too once you've gotten them once?? I know that a few items i got like the sea-breeze shield and boomerang were for sale at the poe's
gloom hands get easier once you get more items. I usually just send lots of bomb infused arrows at them. Now I can easily access it. Namely going to the depths. But if you do this early. It would be way harder if you don't have things.
I am trying to get Zelda's Golden Horse...last of the princess sidequests I have...I just made a bunch of stamina exliir's as you need so much to calm it. And I have 2 full wheels of stamina (and 15 hearts. Did lots of shrines. Still trying to find more)
this video is super helpful i do have one question though could i grab it out of the chest and somehow get a second one so i can keep it at another area? trying to keep it vague in case it could be spoiler.
Bomb arrows from distance. (it seems to stun them for a bit) then use a spear weapon to kill hands. I'd still recommend you carry a lot of gloom recovery food. ;) Don't let them grab you too much else they start regenerating lost hands. Hence why using a spear weapon is important. Try and make a strong spear weapon too. I actually find the second phase of them easier to fight then the hands personally. :P
You hit hard save before open chest to pickup shield, then do a dupe glitch throw on ground, load game before chest was open pickup up duped shield. Now the shield always there for you to pickup.
for me when i did the rock octoroc I didn't need it to die for it to reset. Allthough if I dindn't kill it and there is a blood moon it doesn't reset yet. it seemed more like it was on a timer
I just spent hours in hyrule castle searching for this shield on my own. Thinking oh there's only so many places it could be.... then I cleared the whole thing and still didn't find it. I can't believe it was this simple🤣🤦♀️
Those gloom hands are seriously spooky creepy the guardians of botw made me uneasy when I saw them but then hands racing out of the shadows is nightmare worthy

it fully repairs the durability of the shield so that it is like new. you can kill the octorok so it will respawn next bloodmoon and you can use it again, which you can keep doing as many times as you like
I'm doing this right now and I got a bit ahead of the video and got assaulted by the Gloom Hands 😅 But I got my shield! Thank you! (And a fancy new weapon courtesy of the hands and their master; yes I have the means to deal with them now, luckily)
Can the replacements from Cece be used with octoroc to get durability bonus? And if you have a bonus already can octoroc replace it with a new/better one later?
I am just watching it to try to see....I would love to get the Hylian Shield and champion's tunic. Which I know where the tunic is...just have to feel like getting it.
