HOW TO BUILD WEALTH IN YOUR 20S:
1. Be Careful Who You Listen To
There's a saying that you "should not take advice from someone you wouldn’t trade places with." This will narrow your focus to only the people who have done what you want to do - and chances are, that is the advice you should follow.
2. Build Your Credit Score
-If you have no credit history - go and apply for a secured credit card. All you need to do is get in the habit of putting a few small, normal charges on this card every month - and then paying it off in full by the time it’s due.
-Sign up for Credit Monitoring - like CreditKarma.com, CreditSesame.com, or Experian.com
This will help monitor your credit history on a regular basis, for the cost of nothing.
-After 6 months of doing that, open up another free credit card, like the Bank of America cash rewards card, the Wells Fargo Active Cash Card, or a Chase Freedom Card.
-After 12 months, go and apply for your first charge card, like the American Express Gold Card.
-After 18 months, you should have a credit score above 720-750, which will get you close to getting the lowest interest rates anytime you apply for financing.
3. Get As Much Job Experience As Possible
Your 20’s are SUCH a good time to take risks, try new careers, be as busy as possible, and then - see what sticks. Every job is going to give you a different skillset that you can then leverage into your next position - and, each time you try something new, you’re going to learn what you like, what you don’t like, what you’re good at, what you’re bad at - and from there, you’ll likely make more money as a result.
4. Pick a scalable business.
If your goal is MONEY, pick a career or a business that isn't dependent on how many hours you work. I think sales is one probably of the most under-rated careers out there, it’s usually a stepping stone to earning a high income, it’ll teach you everything you need to know about time management and customer service, and it could provide the funding for just about anything else you want to do.
5. Earn Multiple Sources Of Income
Working ANY type of side business, that has the potential to grow completely independent from your main job, is not only a good way to make more money - but also, diversify yourself in case something happens to your job and you have nothing to fall back on.
6. Avoid Lifestyle Inflation
This is what happens when you slowly inflate your lifestyle alongside your income. Instead of doing this, save the difference and invest it, long term.
7. Invest Immediately
Studies show that the sooner you invest your money, the higher your returns tend to be - compound interest is the "secret" to building your wealth over decades.
DISCLAIMER: Even by building your credit, reducing your expenses, switching jobs, working a side hustle, avoiding lifestyle inflation, and investing the difference - all of this is easier said than done - and, even if you do everything outlined, it’s still not a guarantee you’ll get rich.
BUT, you’ll have a MUCH higher likelihood of achieving that if you’re dedicated to increasing your income, sacrificing short-term discretionary income for the sake of investing more, pushing yourself outside of your comfort zone, and making it a goal that you HAVE to achieve.

Who you have around you also dictates how much you can save and invest as well. If you have a spouse or a parent that is not good with money or even friends I would seriously think of re-evaluating your situation as well. One thing that sucks is a “raise” isn’t really the amount you think it is. At $40k a year you might be taking home $32k after taxes (for example). At $60k, you might take home $45k after taxes. So a $20k bonus sounds like a lot, but you only see $13k of that money. And then after rent prices and student loans, you’re still broke. I live in NYC. Breathing air is expensive around here.

The one problem with dividends as income is that your 20's are a growth phase, so to keep the investment growing as much as possible the dividends should be re-invested right back into it, not spent on anything else.

Thank you Graham for your great videos. I’ve learned so much from you, but you do sometimes downscale the costs of wanting a family and your can’t raise a family on a 40k salary in most places, so when you are earning more you have to spend more and not keep your costs the same. Thanks to your advice and help I’ve already started my portfolio and have a trading account in trust to me which I invested $4,000 earlier this year and it has already grown 16% since March. I hope I can grow my portfolio, but it’s pretty good so far for a 16 year old. My goal is trying to add 5k to my portfolio every year till I finish high school.

@Oscarunderwater Just want to let you know that you can definitely raise a family on cheaper than you think. There's concessions that have to be made and it's definitely not easy. There's tons and tons of ppl out there taking care of their families with the same or less than lots of people that are "just getting by" due to having extravagant lifestyles. People really don't understand how little you NEED to get by. That being said, planning for that type of situation is NEVER the goal, and it's obviously unadvised.

The one thing you never address is what 90k by the time I'm 65 means when adjusted for inflation. If I have 40 years until retirement, assuming standard inflation, that 90k has the same buying power as around 30k today. Please add this into your calculations. For me ( a 26 year old) I need roughly 3.5 million invested to have the same lifestyle i do today at around 70k in income.
@WillyJunior
@WillyJunior 9 месяцев назад
You wouldn't just leave 90k in a bank account with zero interest. It should be properly invested in something like index funds. But really, nobody knows what a job or an income will even be in 15-20 years due to automation so all of this is kind of a huge guess.

im 19 man, graduated high school in 2022. I was where you were a while ago. The comment above said it already, but more than just gaining the knowledge, you need to execute what you learn. Start a business now. Get a roth ira, get a discover or capital one secured. be responsible with your spending, once you hit 700 get an auto loan for a car, but dont try and get like a hellcat or bmw, get a nice nissan or something about 20k, and just gain more experience and execute everything you learn in life. most importantly, dont surround yourself around too many people, or at least people who aren't like-minded like You and I. Being young, you might get impulsive, and accidentally spend money going out with friends too much. Stay 10 toes down, wait until your 21 to start having fun. I just recently bought a camaro 2ss 2022 because i stayed 10 toes down, and im still just doing my own thing relaxing, never been to a bar, never been to party, i only really go out to the gym, to play ball, or take a nice drive or go out to eat every once in a while with the boys. You're wise beyond your years my friend. I bequeath upon you my blessings🙏🏽💯

It's really simple to become wealthy in your 20s if you do these simple steps: Reducing debt is important. Reduce spending. To help you accumulate wealth, adopt wholesome habits like regularly setting aside money for investments on a regular basis. Your income potential will skyrocket if you put effort into this. In the financial market, there are many of ways to profit. I was able to earn my first million dollars through passive investing in a range of assets with the help of my financial advisor Emily Lois Parker.

Hey graham, or people in the comments, can you explain the differences between handling low amounts of money, normal amounts, big amounts and huge amounts? Because I feel like there is always a ceiling at one point of how much money you can put in something and then you have to think of something else that can generate profits for example with some thousands you can do dropshipping or buy and resell but millions of dollars in dropshipping is maybe a waste when you can buy property but then if you deal with huge amounts like a bank you buy oil, wood, etc. because it sells faster. Anyone understand what I'm talking about?
@user-fc2xk3uv8y
@user-fc2xk3uv8y 4 месяца назад
yeah youre right you can only build something so high but in terms of management and handling money, theres no difference depending on amount. if you cant handle 10 or 100 dollars you cannot handle 1000 or a million

How to get rich in your 20's... yeah, here's a primer... be lucky enough to have a rich family member with connections in the finance industry to set you up for life... or work like crazy, never enjoy anything, invest into the stock market and randomly become successful!... or be born naturally tech and math savy and become your own entrepreneur! or take the andrew tate route and set up a cam girl pimping agency 😂😂, because the reality is it's not what you know, it's who you know, and you all know it's true, whether it's in real estate or anything.
