Having issues withthem in NW Ohio. This looks like it takes the trap to the hole. Brilliant and simple! Thanks for posting. I hope you got that check for $0.12... you earned it! ;)
I spray the holes I find using carb cleaner with a spray straw. The carb cleaner kills them almost as fast as "bee spray". It soaks deep into the hole and does not leave oily residue. I've counted as many as 12 bees come pouring out of a hole single file and drop to the ground and die. Easily soaks into any eggs that might be there.
I'll try that. I went in my shed and I could hear this terrible crunching sound all around me. So they have taken over. I need to buy stock in carb cleaner.
@@sherirae3658 Make sure to get the "Not for sale in CA" version...unless you're in CA. :) More chemicals. Just be careful not to get it on you or in your eyes, it will burn, but otherwise just evaporates completely. I literally bought 10 cans of the cheap stuff from Walmart, my shed is crunching too!
I tried everything over the years. 3 yrs ago I got my 20 volt 16 guage finishing nailer out at night and not only nailed the holes shut but put numerous nails about 12 inches away from each hole. Cost me nearly a box of nails but....Haven't seem a bee since. And you can't see the nails
I'll try that next time. I too have bee trap bottles full of them. I bought a bug zapper but I can knock them across the yard with it and within 40' they recover and fly off. I convert the bug zapper from 3v factory battery's to run off a 9v battery and cut out some of them guard wire. Now it takes care of them. But I did something else and now I rarely see any kind of bees around my house. The brown paper bag tricked worked for me. They think it's a hornets nest so they leave. After 5-6 days they'll start coming back unless you adjust the fake hornets nest so I occasionally adjust it up or down. I've also had some help after I did that. I noticed I very rarely see a bee anymore and I was sitting on my porch one evening and my helpers came up. Three big black with yellow strip bees came up. Yes they are hornets and they search everywhere for another bees because they'll eat them. They'll try to go in the old bee holes they will go through all the tubes on my wind chimes. Evidently there is a hornets nest in the area and that's the main reason I don't have any other bees. I'm severely allergic so I'm quietly respecting the hornets while they do their job. I like the modified bug zapper though and rubberized spray car undercoating.
Well I'm ready to try anything. I have shot fire up in holes and 1 bee comes out. Now they are all over my pergola we stained it, then sealed it and they are still eating it. I did start putting soapy water in holes and they don't like that at all. They still are eating my shed up.
I wait till night and fill the holes with liquid nails. Does 2 things one traps everything inside two gives the board its strength back. The stain the bare wood.
Have you tried diatomaceous earth? Just curious. This is what I am trying now. We just moved into this house back in the fall. We are also going to heavily stain the fence. This may help somewhat. My problem is that they bore holes in the post that is attached to the fence. I can’t visualize the holes to place the bottles. But if I see any holes. I will try this trick.
@@keithriggin3066 it worked for us with ants. I will remember you and post later, if it helps with carpenter bees. Thanks for your video. There is definitely a battle right now with the Carpenter bees.
Tried it . Works but they dig another hole. I covered my shed with it. I bought 50lbs of it. It's awful. They need to bury there babies in the dirt and I would not have to be doing this.
If you would like to getting rid of them from all over your property ... take a brown paper bag and puff it out and fill with another bag. In the mind of the carpenter bee it has the appearance of a Hornets nest! The carpenter bees will evacuate the area! I have one bag under my porch and it has gotten rid of all the bees from my property. I was covered up with them around my bedroom deck and they are gone as well as all others.
Forget all that and just get a couple of small brown or grey plastic bags like the ones you get from Walmart and fill them up with paper or other paper bags and hang them outside where the bees are are within a couple of days they will be gone.My mom had hundreds of bees for years eating her porch up and I done everything else and nothing worked
Yea she was not too smart when she made these bees. You would think they would burrow under ground than they would not need to be a pain for everyone and could pollinate. Everyone makes mistakes yes even mother nature..
@@sherirae3658 A pain for everyone? From the recent 'top of the food chain' mentality we only recently acquired in comparison to the length of time this strategy has worked for them - evolution doesn't happen overnight. I never 'blame' other living things for doing what they do.
Just wondering what i might be doin wrong i bought a bee trap from home depot like u have with the wood and bottle and have yet to catch a single one.ive moved it a couple times only caught a couple hornets
It’s hit or miss with those traps… don’t ask me why.. I put them on all 4 corners of my shop.. one year.. I’ll fill it be completely up… the next year.. may not catch a single bee… I have some that’s been ups for several years, and not have anything in it… but they are not the ones you want to trap.. that’s the males that typically go into the trap.. you want the ones that’s boring into your house!
There's another method making a "hornet's nest" from a brown paper bag to keep them from the area, making them move out or keeping them from moving in. Has anyone tried this?
Man I did this I bought carpenter bee spray hornet spray tennis racket about four bottles each Took a hammer beat where they was going I’d spray the spray it in the whole and beat the wood with the hammer I seen 2 since only took one day
@@SerenaHe-z3k step 1 buy 3 cans carpenter bee spray at Lowes Hornet spray wd40 either or carpenter bee spray and wd40 works best Step 2 Buy a hammer and a tennis racket (Buy the hammer to beat on the wood they’ll fly out they hate vibration… tennis racket to smash them when they come out… then spray the carpenter spray inside of the wholes they’re in… I swear I got rid of all of them the same day except a few I had 100s if not 1000s
@@Is-there_a-ChristianGod Thank you! I had hundreds of them in May. They seem mostly gone, but I know they are not gone. The mom bees are in the holes with their larves. I have been trying to figure out how to get ride of them once for all. I'm gonna try your method. Although I'm very very very scared of bees. I think I will get an electric racket instead so I can avoid the hair standing process of smashing them, lol.
@@Is-there_a-ChristianGod After being stung 20+ times by yellow jackets, no amount of reasoning can ease my intense fear of any bee like creatures. lol. oh well. I have to do what I have to do to save my log house.
Doesn’t work .. I tried that.. they are literally eating my house and barns.. but.. on A positive note, I have about 50,000 honeybees in my hive so I have plenty of pollination going on thank you.
Anyone that says “Don’t kill them” clearly doesn’t have carpenter bees DESTROYING their house, carport and sheds. BTW, that fake hornet nest trick, if it works at all, only lasts for a short time until they figure out there are no hornets.
@@2020Tundra yep it's like the birds sitting on the wire and shitting on the car. When I see it ,I know it's time to go move the fake owl again. Usually it's good for close to a week.
