one cause that my dermatologist told me about was constant irritation in the region. when the skin on the inside of your armpits is constantly rubbing against itself, especially when you sweat, the friction causes irritation which then causes redness. once this redness fades it turns your skin into a darker shade. you observe the same thing when the inside of your thighs rub against each other. a good way to avoid this is by putting a thin layer of a vaseline or a lubricant under your arms after applying your deodorant which reduces friction so that they dont rub as hard and your skin doesnt get too irritated. also, after you wax it can also cause redness and give the same effect, so use an anti-inflammatory or an anti-redness cream so that your skin doesnt get red and eventually darken. trust me these are amazing prevention methods, and although the results arent "instant" if you incorporate these steps into your routine, within a few weeks you'll never have to deal with darkness again. prevention is always more effective than treatment.

I'm actually no more insecure about my armpits, I was at some point but then i realised i have like three skin tones, my face is darker than the rest of my body and my hands are lighter than the rest of my body so like armpits just add one more tone😂

Don’t do this after shaving your armpits though. It gave me a bad red rash that’s super itchy and I had to put aloe on it to help the burning 🥺. I’ll try it again after it heals though.

when i was younger and before i even started growing hair under my arms, my mom would always warn me to wax it off and not shave bc it’ll make my armpits darker. but one day in grade 7 when i noticed i was growing hair and i had to show my underarms for gym class, i quickly shaved it off and since then i would always shave them. obviously my underarms became really dark, so i switched to waxing a few months ago. i noticed my underarms aren’t as dark, but after a few days of me waxing my underarms, i notice it literally starts getting darker bc i have hyperpigmentation there. it’s so annoying. exfoliating doesn’t even work. it’s summertime now and i’m extremely insecure to wear anything but long sleeves. i still wear short sleeve shirts out but i always try and keep my arms down so no one sees. i’m meeting up with my friends in a few weeks and i decided i wanted to wear a tank top, so i’m gonna try this soon and let y’all know.

I have moved from a two razor to a four razor which is wayyy better and also I use hair removal lotion which is VERY effective and doesn't give dark armpits. I mainly use a face cloth To remove the hair removal lotion. I only use a razor when I'm in a rush. Thank you for the remedies. I will add them to my list.

I'm mixed (South East Asian & White) but have had real dark pits in middle school all I was doing was shaving and using antiperspirant which resulted in my skin being irritated and red further being darkened. I'm now using an epilator for the hair and an aluminum free deodorant for the odor. No longer shaving def helps! Imma try that the ordinary product too.

Once I stopped using deodorant that was irritating me my armpits will be lined up. Also yes not shaving even when my armpit hair was really long my armpits were still lighter than when I shaved. Eventually I did laser hair removal and this was the holy grail for lightning since my hair follicles no longer visible. I think the best thing is to not irritate with harsh deodorants and even some natural deodorants were irritating my under arm amd no shaving !!!!
