How to Get Rid of Gear Fear in under 5 Minutes on Escape From Tarkov 

Scav main here. I loved playing Scavs as a beginner since you get gear for free, which negates the gear fear completely. Using the scav to fund your PMC is a valid tactic. On Scav runs i sell almost everything to squeeze every rouble out till i get to lvl 15. Knowing that the gear was basicaly free helped me get rid of gear fear.

I’ve learned that with gear fear, you fight not to lose your gear. Without it, you fight to win. Since I rid myself of the fear, I’ve killed waaay more players than before and am killing level 50-60+ players regularly. You’re gear is borrowed in the end, fight to win and you’ll win more often.

REMEMBER FRIENDS: it's better to lose your loot to someone who outclassed or outplayed you, and have it help them in their journey, than lose it to a wipe.

Some decent pointers. I like Tarkov for the survival aspect. Needing to find resources in the raids to upgrade the hideout, or just to use really makes the excitement of surviving a raid that much more enjoyable and the deaths even more frustrating. But I don't like the forced PvP. I have no issue with occasional run-ins or the roaming scavs but when the only goal becomes to ruin another players enjoyment then I start having problems. Example: everyone uses Factory to get many PvP quests completed because the spawns are on top of each other it just becomes a bloodbath 3 seconds after dropping in. You want a letter? syringe? 3 kites? In the dark? A package from customs? exits where? Tagila who? Not 1 but 2 broken machines? God knows what else.. The chore of just surviving the log in is one thing.. but doing it multiple times becomes tedious. It isn't gear fear.. Its knowing what is coming and wanting to avoid it because its forced death marches. All you want to do is get things done, but the quests force PvP into a scenario that is already heavily contested with things like less than 20m kills, pistols, rifles, grenades, blinded, as well as dedicated go kill players quests just for the sake of killing. Then you break away from factory and take a nice pleasant stroll on Shoreline or Woods when you get tapped from god knows where in the pitch black night while sitting in a bush because hey.. lets make thermal kills a requirement, but not let the people getting killed know how someone saw them. No shit they get reported. Top that off with the flashlight bugs where it looks off to you, but nope.. you're a beacon but have no clue. Mix in a dash of desync. audio glitches, and sound localization that is horrid and walla.. A prime reason people just run basic gear. It isn't gear fear. It's the fear of being Tarkov'd.

The main thing that has helped me is running my scav every opportunity. Using the kits from the scav, repaired if needed, then upgrading to the gear of players killed (on the rare occasions I kill someone). I just find if I havnt spent 200K on a kit, its easier to play without panicking.

This is a good video I think the best advice is to just bring things that you can buy again. in first wipe you still learn the maps and the game in general until level ~15-20 anyways and you die mostly to stuff that is not directly related to your gear, so there is no point to bring expensive gear if you are still learning and dying to lack of game knowledge. bring better gear when you die BECAUS of it. for example you get killed to a player because you missed your first close range shot with your mosin and if you had a semi auto rifle you think you would have won. when you realize that making money is kind of easy in the game, the gear fear goes away completely when you only run the kits that you can rebuy. if you bring a good gun that you can't buy yet, you can get used to it and then feel bad when you loose it. bring the guns that are appropriate for your gameplay level. still, I have some kind of fear before going into raid. it is not a gear fear but rather "loosing my time" fear you just don't want to spend 10m in stash and another 5m in loading just to die some random death without getting to enjoy the raid. this fear exist while you are in the stash and at least for me it goes away once i'm into the raid - but it exist regardless of the gear i'm bringing in and it is mostly due to the state of the game. simply put - you just don't want to play.. haven't found a solution to that besides playing something else.

I don't really have gear fear anymore. I just don't want to die in fights that I'm getting into for tasks like Setup, Punisher 4-6, Tarkov Shooter 7-8 etc. And that holds me back. If I play a map to loot or just to fight for fun I don't care and play differently. But for tasks it messes up my gameplay. Not sure why

i wouldnt really say i have a big gear fear, but a big fear of dying to some BS such as the games messed up such as things like Dsync, Server Lag, Cheaters and chads who put 10k hours into the game. but i get this tip alot.

My favorite way of getting over gear fear was from Eroktic. Deleting your entire stash. Then starting over.

1. wipe - gear fear, fear to die, fear to meet other PMCs ( Scav AI was utterly bad back then ) -> the whole wipe was hard 2. wipe - a guy teached me everything to AVOID other PMCs and make money fast as PMC and Scav ( like leave Customs with 1-3 intell. and/or 1-2 graphics cards ) -> the gear fear got less 3. wipe - i finally realized to play MY guns ( even if its a shotgun or Kedr-B all the time ) and optimize MY playstyle and not sticking to meta crap like 99% of the players -> i played a LOT more confident, offensive and killed geared teams with a Kedr-B easily 4. wipe - after learning to make money, insurance fraud my gear, avoid PMCs if needed there was ONE THING LEFT -> patience, i learned how this can turn a shitty raid into escpaping with 1-3 mill per raid

I get over the gear fear by selling off expensive equipment, sticking to 1-2 weapons / armors that I consistently use (get adapt to using that specific weapon/armor combo). Maybe it's not as "fun" as always trying something new, but I tend to play better using the same few weapon/armor combos than trying something new all the time. Mosin is my baby, and I don't care how geared the enemy is, they will always feel the sting of a well placed mosin round. Or for CQB same can be said about 12 gauge shotgun with a well placed Super HP or RIP slug. The game becomes very simple if you start looking at it that way, you don't get attached to your gear, you simply look at the amount of the sets of your gear as your "lives". Like, oh, I have 6 PMC lives, instead of I have 6 mosins. And if my insurance gives me back my weapon / armor set, then I just regained a life. I play Scav and sell some items to be able to buy more PMC lives (more of the same set gear). That way it frees up mental space from considering and thinking about gear and the fear of losing it, and you can focus more on fighting / doing quests ect.

The way I got over gear fear was telling myself it’s not my gear just mine to use for right now. And scav runs learning the mechanics and how to PvP with no remorse of losing good gear lol.

I got over my gear fear last night. I took my best kit into raid but got greedy and after winning pvp died to a sniper scav that I didn't have to fight at all. Rip

Just know this...All your gear is like a new car, once you drive it off the lot, it loses value. Sure, you can do some repairs, but it's never going to be 100% again & soon it will be unusable or not worth using.
