What should you do about your “Lady Stache?” Should you wax it? Shave it? Use depilatory creams? A lot of women worry about ways they should treat this area and I get a lot of questions about this at the office and on social media about this. Here’s my view on how to treat your “lady stache” - hope you find it helpful!
This is our first POP QUIZ at Dr. Pimple Popper University - I am going to try to directly answer some of the questions we get on RU-vid and on Social Media. Look out for future videos about how blackheads, lipomas and cysts form, how we choose between using a punch tool and an excision, some tricks of the trade as dermatologists and more!
And of course you should enroll at Dr. Pimple Popper University to see upcoming videos about different office treatments, cystic acne, melasma, anti-aging, dandruff and other issues we deal with here at Skin Physicians & Surgeons! So subscribe now and please keep the questions coming!

Excellent video content! Excuse me for chiming in, I am interested in your opinion. Have you ever tried - Franaar Wonderful Face Formula (do a google search)? It is a good one off guide for getting rid of keratosis pilaris without the headache. Ive heard some amazing things about it and my cousin after a lifetime of fighting got great results with it.

I opted for electrolysis. That was the best choice. Creams irritated my skin. Shaving wasn't an option. I didn't want stubble. I used to spend at least 20 mins every day pulling hair. No more whisker hair ever. I had dark hair and removing that really lightened my skin. It is permanent and well worth it!

@DrSandraLee Thank you for educating us! When you do these "lecture" type videos, the audio sounds kind of echo-y. I'm by no means any kind of audio engineer, but it sounds like you are too far from the mic, the room has too many hard surfaces that reflect sound and/or the mic is compressing the sound quality (analogous to resolution in visual capture). I love your videos and I am so glad to see your success as a RU-vidr grow over the past year! Take care!

Dear Sandra, is there a way to get rid of dark discolouration of the skin on my face please? I call it my hairless moustache because it looks like a moustache without the hair lol. My skin started to get discoloured about 8 months ago, I believe it's caused by sun damage. Thank you.

as someone with a lady stache, threading is the most thorough method of hair removal--after threading, my upper lip was only smoother on the day I was born. Waxing can leave baby hairs, but the thread gets everything.

I'm surprised you didn't mention electrolysis in more detail. I have very fine but long hair above my lips (lady stache) and on my chin and electrolysis was great for me. Laser wouldn't have worked on me as there wasn't enough colour contrast between the skin and the hair follicles.

What is the best way to deal with NOSE HAIRS?? They are so awful and mine are getting stronger and longer since menopause. Tweezing hurts and I'm afraid I'll end up with ingrown hairs or infections. Thank you for addressing these less than dainty topics.
@samanthamaynard4447
@samanthamaynard4447 8 лет назад
+Nancy Charest I would just buy a pair of facial hair scissors (Tweezerman makes a great pair - they are small with curved blades and slightly blunted tips) or even an inexpensive nose hair trimmer. One thing, though - check reviews on nose hair trimmers. Some of them grab the hairs and pull (like an epilator) versus actually cutting it. So look for ones without twisting blades. Some are just straight wands with blunted tips. You can get water-resistant battery powered ones, like a Norelco, from Amazon for about $10.
@ancientsgate
@ancientsgate 8 лет назад
+Nancy Charest You can buy a small battery-powered electric personal grooming trimmer in any pharmacy, meant to use in the nose and ears and, using attachments, to trim eyebrows. Those are terrific, cost around 10 bucks, and work like a champ.

hi Dr Sandra, even in Scotland you are a legend!!! My question is, I suffer from psoriatic arthritis and when my skin flares up find it impossible to shave without causing a bloodbath. I have never waxed or used creams due to my psoriasis and was wondering if you have any advice. also, how do you best remove hair from facial mole? is it ok to pluck? Thanks. Oh! how is Mr Wilson (pops) missing his videos 😊

Maybe bleaching it instead would be an option? Ask in a pharmacy for bleach for you face. I've done it before and it looked good for me. Might depend on the hair/skin type and colour

Hello Dr Lee, my question is can my 11 year old daughter get laser hair removal on her upper lip. She already has a lady stache and is very selfconcious about it. The skin around her lips also looks darker than the rest of her face. What would you recommend? please help us. Thank you, Isabel & Mia
@inesmidoes
@inesmidoes 8 лет назад
+Isabel Bracamonte I'm not Dr Lee and I never tried laser, but I think the best is using the line, as my personal experience! Of course the way that worked for me may not work for everyone, but trying is always worth! I once read that laser doesn't work well for facial hair, but I don't know if it's a myth. Hope I helped :)
@ancientsgate
@ancientsgate 8 лет назад
+Inês Midões As Dr. Lee said in this video, laser works best on coarse, dark mustache hair. So if someone has pale, fine mustache hair, they'd be better off with a depilatory or something.

I have always tweezed. Now it's grows tough and darker. I have recently used a razor very carefully but it stings. I have sensitive skin. so how do I keep from getting a rash and pinmples?
@ancientsgate
@ancientsgate 8 лет назад
+Charlene Howard I use a man's double-blade razor (change it out every 5 shaves or so, and don't use those cheap disposable razors) and men's shaving cream, giving the mustache a few seconds to soften up before actually shaving. Shave with the hair growth (downward) first, then re-soap and shave again in an upwards motion, against the direction of hair growth. Rinse well and pat dry and follow up with an over the counter cortisone cream, rubbed well into the skin. Tah dah! No itching, redness, soreness. Works for me, thought I'd pass it along.

I have another lady-related question! I know hormones related to the menstrual cycle can affect my skin, but how do they do that? I've noticed that the mostly perfect skin I had at 17 is not so perfect at 31, especially the week before my period.

@sandraleerebish4761
@sandraleerebish4761 8 лет назад
+jennamarie1223 yes this is why acne tends to continue in the adult woman! It's mainly due to our hormones. Fluctuations in our hormone levels trigger acne breakouts. There are treatments specifically geared to control our hormone levels better which may improve your acne.

I have PCOS and because of that my "lady-stach" (thanks for that name btw) and light beard been in effect since my teen years. I've tried everything over the counter. Personally I find tweezing, though time consuming, works and lasts the best. I'd love to get laser, but it's not in my budget just yet.
@sandraleerebish4761
@sandraleerebish4761 8 лет назад
+astcat Tweezing is perfectly fine (and inexpensive!), as long as you don't get ingrown hairs, which will irritate your skin and cause "pimples" which is actually folliculitis

what is threading
@pancakefluff7936
@pancakefluff7936 7 лет назад
Vickie Reynolds this is late, but its when a length of thread is tied end to end to form a loop, then the loop is twisted 10-15 times. The twists basically help rip off a line of hair. Then the loop is moved to a different location and the process repeats. Threading gets rid of even the shortest hair, so it's definitely worth the pain. Doesnt hurt much too.

Another option is just embracing it! Body hair on almost every part of the body is natural for men and women. If men can get away with never trimming their nose and ear hairs or "manscaping" you can get away with not waxing that stache.
