I play table tennis and have been starting to get some serious wrist and forearm sharp pains. After doing your wrist warm-up routine every morning and right before practice, and adding the stretches from this video into that, I have noticed that the pains are gone. Not sure if its the stretching or the injuries healing, but I would like to thank you for the videos. Great stuff. Subscribed.

After ramping up my serve speed with pronation (in VR tennis with racket adapter of all places) I got a lot of wrist pain at the thumb area which I believed to be at the sheath as the tendons went through it. It would tighten up very painfully every night and trigger pain like a jolt if i opened up my hand during sleep. I did ultrasound on it and various exercises and nothing worked for 4 months until i got a cortisone injection in the wrist thumb sheath area. he could see some fluid in the area with an ultrasound via his tablet as he did the injection.

Brilliant - What if the cause of pain is arthritis of the wrist? Is there any hope for a solution, or just live with the pain (or change sports)?

Before becoming a full time tennis hacker i specialized in using applied neuro for chronic pain rehab. So although every one is different and you can’t make guarantees when it comes to health, i’ve seen enough people with arthritis get out of pain, i tend to believe there is a solution for most people. What are you currently trying to address it?

These can be very helpful and you also want to make sure your wrists are strong enough to handle the stresses of tennis. This can take time to build up and often when people start playing go do too much too soon, relative to what the body can handle.

Any suggestions for those folks who have limited range of motion in wrist extension plane. How much wrist layback is necessary to hit a solid forehand. Many coaches say 90degrees extension is needed.
@TennisHacker
@TennisHacker 4 года назад
This drill should help with wrist extension, but there can be many other things that limit it. To improve your range you generally have to strengthen it at the extreme range. But at the end of the day, you've got what you've got. My extension is way less than 90 degrees and I can hit with heavy spin and power. So if you get the rest of the mechanics down I'm sure you'll be fine.

I am feeling pain especially when hitting my right handed forehand. Pain feels like an electrical shock nerve pain right in the middle of the inner elbow. When i straighten my arm and try to pronate, the shock is unbearable. Few months ago i had pain in the same area but it was only triggered when i supinated. I was able to fix it with physical therapy , icing, compression and using theraband. Any ideas how i can find out if this is bicep tendonitis or pronator teres?

Pain is complicated so there can be lots of potential causes. Start with the ulnar nerve mobilization and see how your body responds. Also make sure your upper spine and neck is moving well because that's where the nerve exists.

I had no idea that 'stuck' nerves may be causing the tightness in my arm, rather than muscle tightness. I went to a phsyio last week and she told me this. Thank you for this video - I will do these gentle exercises. The phsyio also suggested that I ensure my wrist is straight when I hit the ball (rather than a laid-back /backward-bending wrist). Not sure if I have misunderstood tennis technique for years. I thought we were meant to have a backward-beding wrist at the moment of impact, especially if we are in open-stance with both feet facing forward toward the net.
@TennisHacker
@TennisHacker 3 года назад
Realistically everything works together. Often nerve restrictions cause the tightness in the muscles. Hopefully the drills help. Also, i’ve got a video and wrist mobility, which you should check out. Lack of joint mobility can also contribute to tightness.
