I live in Texas and would love to grow this one indoors.

Well I guess it depends exactly where in Texas but you could probably grow it outside too!

I dont think you`ll need to grow your Sarcs inside,unless you want to of course, but remember,morning sun,and fresh air most important.

Hi there! Thanks for all the infos. Mine is about to flower for the first time and it was all fine few days ago and now I noticed the flower buds and the stem starting to dry up. Anything I could do to help it? Also when it finishes flowering, do you cut the stem off? Thank you!

Just saw your reply regarding cutting the stem off. Also I'm in Adelaide and the plant for few months, it's been happy inside. Thanks

Oh no - that's so disappointing for you! Firstly, if you're in Adelaide, it would be fine outside if you have the space. Bud blast can be caused by so many things: too much water - not enough water - too much heat - too much cold - some form of rot etc etc. An issue might be that they do like cool weather in winter. If you bought it in bud from a grower who probably grew it in a shade house and then took it inside, that might be too much of a change from where it was grown? ie too hot & dry? Just a stab in the dark. Unfortunately as they only bloom once a year if all your buds & spikes have blasted you'll have to wait until next spring now. So in the mean time maybe try to find the best spot for it so it gets winter light and a winter chill. Good luck!

Thanks for the super informative video! Once the flowers have fallen off, is there any post flowering care required such as cutting off the flower spikes? Thanks :)
@helloplantlovers
@helloplantlovers 4 года назад
Thanks for watching! No special care with the dead spikes. I just wait until all the flowers have dropped and the spike starts to die off then trim right down as close to the base as you can. It will flower from that same cane again but from a different point so you do want it to look as tidy as possible! Of course IF one of the flowers has been pollinated then you will see the seed pod start to form and swell - you can either keep that on the plant and try to germinate once it's ready if you're interested - or just cut that spike off with the rest!

thank you for this video, Im over in Perth and have some Sarcochilus. You mention growing yours outdoors, Im a bit Jelly. Im growing mine indoors under LED red blue lights to augment some very dappled Perth morning to midday sun. They seem to be doing fine. I have had them about 3 or 4 weeks and they are growing nice vegetation and new roots. Mine are all seedlings. As a question, I also have a worm farm, any experience with " worm juice ??" as a fertiliser. I am a bit timid to try. TA. Joolz

Thanks for watching! I think firstly they are definitely a thrive on neglect kind of orchid. Perth would be a perfect climate outdoors as long as they are protected from the harsh afternoon sun. They are a tough local species. And with any fertilizer I'd just keep it to infrequent applications and maybe dilute the worm water! Imagine they're natural habitat is rocky nooks shaded by eucalypt so not the most fertile of environments. Good luck!

How do you water your plants? Do ou always take them out and water it?
@helloplantlovers
@helloplantlovers 2 года назад
Hi there - I water them all in-situ. In summer on a warm day I might take the inside ones outside and shower them so I can clean the leaves and then dry quickly. Otherwise no special watering technique!

@@helloplantlovers It got crown rot. The seller sent the orchid in soil mixed media. It broke my heart, so sad
@helloplantlovers
@helloplantlovers 3 года назад
@@lianrohima Oh no!!!!! Have you thrown it away yet? A last desperate attempt to save it might be if the stem was long enough cut off the top rotted portion, treat the cut and then pot it up in loose media and use a very diluted liquid fertilizer every other watering. They are vigorous growers and it might have the energy to send up a new growth point. Nothing ventured nothing gained!

I did the last attempt, but i lost it. I just got the new one. And, yeah.. The seller sent in soil mixed media. But its okay as the orchid is heathier than the previous one. Hmm i should change the media, right?

@@lianrohima Always a good idea if it came from afar! A free draining orchid/aroid mix - nothing fancy! Good luck with #2!
