thanks jade, you're a natural teacher. Today is my 2nd day having installed my own cleat pedals. You pointed out many things that i've overlooked, but i haven't taken my bike out for a real ride yet. (wink) i'd rather not call them clipless bec when i was in sec sch, i had a bike with toe clips on them, so u know at least which era i'm from. Like u, i hv zenith rims & like u, i m singaporean, so i can most certainly identify with many of the things u talked about!
Thanks for the tips. I remember the time when I first used cleats. And you seldom fall when you are moving only when you are coming to a stop or sudden stop so to be safe, allow ample time and uncleat in when coming up to a traffic llght or when there are lotsa of people in front of you so that you can react in time and not fall. Another tip I picked up is coming to a stop, get off your saddle, that way you will never have a chance to lose balance onto the right side and fall over
Hi Jade, the landing foot or push off foot should be the dominant foot. It is not determined by which side of the traffic Singapore or any country uses. The dominant foot is usually the foot you use to kick a ball.
i think it depends on how you actually move off. Personally I don't actually push off, but I push down on my on my dominant leg that is on the paddle as a "push off", so I get more speed
@@loijunkai but if your master leg or leading leg is left you will always auto clip in your left leg 1st. Like me cause my master leg is left I try to use right clip in 1st and I can’t control my balance well then my left leg. Like I am left handed I can’t use my right hand to write that well.
You will never forget the first time you fall. Bruises and your shattered ego. Also try with one cleat shoe and one running shoe. I'm lazy so I use doubled sided MTB cleats. Also when slowing down, unclip one shoe for safety.
I heard that some people experience foot numbness and hot spots when using SPDs. Do you find it to be the case? I think if numbness is not an issue, SPDs are a great idea for beginners cos they are easier to clip in and out of than look or SPD-SL
@@ghcheong I've never had any problems with numbness or hot spots. Double sided pedals sold me. No flipping pedals over. Clipping in is not always as smooth. Small surface area so you have to feel your way in. When I plan to upgrade, I'm going with chinese speedplays.
normally i clip in the non-master (left) foot so when i "land" will be on my master foot (right).. another style for others to consider. reason being naturally we have better support on our master foot..,,
a bit risky when stopping on the middle of the road for right hand drive countries like in Sg or UK . The traffic or cars are at your right in case you tend to lean to unclip from your right & fall .

Yep. I was terrified of them. Until I tried them and fell. Then all the fear is gone and I learned it quick. In fact, I fell down because I had gone too slowly because of fear 😂
