I don’t care what this guy says. Lightkey is great for theatre, especially if your show doesn’t involve complicated lighting. I’ve searched hell and high water and this is so affordable, simple (especially if you’re like me that knows nothing about lighting) and you can create the basics of lighting and effects for a good children’s theatre show. That stupid ETC nomad is so complicated and I still don’t even know what equipment or how to connect the lighting is done. This is so amazing!

They have also improved the functionality for theatre type shows a LOT since this video was recorded:)

Hi, David! Hope all has been fantastic! Thanks for all your knowledge put into your content! So, there is a way to re-size a cue list, to make it smaller (half the size of the bottom control space). And once you do that, you can quickly drag down any preset, creating a button alongside the cue list, on the one live page. I am not sure if this is a newer update but I would love if you could do a tutorial utilizing this feature and how we could use both the cue lists and buttons together, more like a lighting console has. 😁 I hope this makes sense. Thanks so much in advance!

What are your thoughts about using an external controller with light key.. do you recommend any? Do you have any videos of some using light key?

Hello, I am new to lighting. How do you actually set up your light? This is before you start programming them.

How do we setup wireless DMX/ArtNet with just a wifi router and not DMX interface (Cause the lights are wireless, I don't need a DMX Interface)

I'm completely new to this, do I have to set my lights to the DMX channel that I assigned the fixture to in the software? I don't see that mentioned anywhere but maybe that's just assumed? I'm using the DMX USB ette 512 interface (i know it is not ette... I'm not by the box right now but it's the blue box one)

Why cant i figure out how to add another fixture after I've saved my project and come back to it at a later date. Actually I can't figure out how to add a fixture once I get out of that initial wizard to add the first ones after creating a new project.

i hope logic pro would get the same live trigger feature as ableton, i dont want to switch DAW but in logic its so hard with only midi numbers

This is easier to accomplish than you might first realize :) Try using a midi controller - or even Logic's Musical Typing feature to send midi values through the IAC Driver to Lightkey. In a logic project, you can create an external midi instrument channel strip that send midi to Lightkey. You can then create a regular Software Instrument channel strip and set its audio output to 'none'. Then select both the external midi instrument strip and the software instrument strip (with audio output = none) and use the Create a Track Stack function, and choose 'summing'. This will allow you to perform, record and/or playback midi on a software instrument - including the Logic Live Loops cell view - and have that midi be sent to Lightkey.

@@cullenstephen its all i did, but i hope we get the live trigger function as ableton so you dont need a midi number, and you can directly chose one of the presets with names like in lightkey

So the owner of the company I work for bought a bunch of “Chinese” lights fro eBay that I can’t find a listing for. How can I add those in??

Request it :) - lightkeyapp.com/en/fixtures/requestform

While waiting for the request, you can add custom entries to the fixture library. Near the search bar in the Fixture Library there is a dropdown menu that contains the 'New Profile' option. Once you've done this, you can use the documentation from your lights to program custom channels and their definitions. If the manuals are unclear or not available, you can just add as many channels to the custom light as you think it might have (or as might be indicated on the packaging). To test the function of each channel, just set all channels to the 'Custom' property, and enable the 'show a slider for this option' toggle. Make sure your custom fixture is patched into your DMX universe, and then press 'Done' to go back to your Design screen. Select your new custom light and start experimenting with the unlabelled sliders/dimmers to test for their functions. Keep notes and then go back to the fixture profile to properly label and/or divide the channels into their respective functions. Hope that helps!

Hey David - I have an Enttec DMXIS box that I used with DMXIS and I’m looking to switch to Lightkey. Do you think that box will work or do you recommend getting a new one? Thanks!
