If you are trying to fix your existing Steam installation by replacing it with the one in this video, and if you have Steam on a drive other than C:, then understand that there are more steps required to make it work than this video talks about! You will need to rename your existing Win7 blocked Steam folder to something else so you can use parts of it later, modify the ini files that come with the replacement steam installation to direct it to where your Steam folder will be, then after putting the replacement Steam installation next to your renamed Steam installation you will need to copy some (but not all) of the folders and files from your renamed installation to the replacement installation (such as \Steam\Games icons, but NOT that 1 non-ico folder you will see in there I found this out the hard way just get the game icons and copy them to your replacement Steam's Games folder!). SteamApps has to be copied as well, if you don't want to have to re-install all the games again individually. I've had pure hell getting everything to work right on a guy'g gaming box it's taken me two weeks to get Steam working again with all his games on Win 7 Ultimate but that's what he wanted so.... it can, be done! Just saying...
Stop giving Valve your money and we can watch them file bankruptcy and laugh at them remember Valve we're in control not you think this idea doesn't work it worked on Dollar Tree it can work on Valve too.
I hope Steam goes bankrupt in all honesty for being control freaks we are the customer and they SHOULD be listening to us and not the crack of their ass I hope Valve reads my comment we gave them power we can take it away that's why it's called WE THE PEOPLE nobody give Valve another cent until they meet our demands.
Imagine paying for your games but you lose access to them entirely because you are forced at gunpoint to upgrade to a system where it puts your entire data at risk
Finally, someone who knows the pain of windows 7 users. Thank you for bringing light to this subject. Also, your voice is funny in a good way :D Edit: when i open the steam everything is working, but after signing in, it shows connection problem and says to enter offline steam mode.any reason or solution would be great!
Hello, I appreciate the comment and about the problem you are facing with Steam, Is the Friends list or the Friends tab showing? (Because if it doesn't show, that means you haven't installed the "friends patch" that I demonstrated on the video, and without it, it would show that you are offline.
UPDATE: well sorry if I didn't notice, but a good friend of mine did a solution to your problem and here is the video tutorial for it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-77aOzKZwEvo.htmlsi=u9hQBLu-pjvSJirq
This vedio work really well i tried making a shortcut of the steam in program files folder but it didnt work so u just have to open it from the folder no short cut can work but this works really well thanks bro ! keep it up u earned a new sub!!!!!!!!!
Hello So about your problem i think for the shortcut to work is to: Right Click on the Steam.exe and click on Create Shortcut And put the shortcut in the Desktop
Nice, work´s just fine. Quick tip if steam ask you to install a service when you lauch it click cancel after that it works just fine. Thank you sr. good effort.
You may get alot more viewers soon as I reffered you to the whole of the tf2 community to how to install this also thanks I can still make game drivers for windows 7 steam ❤
So just clarifying. If people do this, the steam client/browser won't update anything etc. Meaning any patches or updates won't be applied because it thinks > Oh yeah closet it closed, says all good. Is it fair to say we trap the Steam browser into groundhog day?
Yes it would stay in the same version forever because of the modified steam.cfg file, it tricks steam into thinking that this is the latest version of steam and this is our only choice to getting this running on old Operating systems
Okay just wanted to update everyone here. I tried this fix and it seemed to work totally okay on my windows 7 PRO. I went to the site followed the steps, I tripped somewhere on the steps though and noticed steam was trying to UPDATe so I cancelled and re-checked my steps. So far it's January 1st, steam loads with no warnings. So basically if you don't want to go windows 10-11 etc just try this fix. I am only using the games I have so I have no idea if you will have problems but so far I'm very happy.
Adding the modified steam.cfg I showed in the video would stop steam checking for updates and will stay in version before steam announced its unsupport
Good Evening Everyone, If you encounter "No Internet Connection" problem when opening Steam i have Placed a video Solution in the Description, But if you dont want to check all the way down in the description, Here Is the Video Solution: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-77aOzKZwEvo.html
@niel7936 So about that, I have tried garrys mod to run but couldn't since garrys mod needs the latest steam version if it's updated I am not sure if we can delete updates and run garrys mod at version January 2023
thank you very much for this detailed tutorial, thanks to it I can play older games on Win7 laptop. Also your friend did a good job making the offline error go away ;)
Yeah about that, games that update must require a new version of steam If you need that, try this new method that I made: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FkSefBILDPM.htmlsi=razkZrQCISWXy2b7
Hello, my Steam has a problem, it doesn't show the game icons or install them, and it behaves as if it were in offline mode. and I went to test this method, but Steam gets a gray screen, and the login screen doesn't appear, if you could help I would greatly appreciate it.
Good evening, sorry for late reply but for Steam showing gray screen when trying to sign in/ log in for some reason i have found out that (after making the video) in windows 8 it has problems, i am not sure if its an display driver problem or that steam cant run on windows 8 which i thought it would work but i am working on it (hopefully we find an solution of this)
@@juaov6745 When you solve something yourself, don't just say "I managed to solve it".... that adds nothing to the conversation! Say what you did to solve it, so anybody else who experienced the same problem can read your solution and maybe that will help them out. In other words, pay it forward!
Hey there! Incredible video and it really helped me out. Thanks for that, but I wanted to know if I can cut and paste it to another drive when i have already downloaded it in C. Also, apparently,I downloaded a game but it just wont load. Could you maybe help me out in some way??? Thanks!
The game is "ONE PIECE:Bounty Rush" and it has apparently launched on steam yesterday (24/9/24). When I open the desktop shortcut or from inside the steam,it will show a small dialogue box for less then a second before disappearing completely saying - "Preparing to launch ONE PIECE:Bounty Rush...." . Could you help me out please?
Greetings, I'm confused at the copy and move folders stage, what do I need to do if my steampath is through D:\Steam? Thanks in advance for the answer!
Hello, To move steam to another Drive is copy the "Steam" folder to the Other drive it should look like this: D:\Program Files (x86)\Steam It should work, Just make sure you have enough storage space in the Other Drive If there is any problem just reply to this comment
You have to also add the switch -cef-disable-sandbox to the shortcut to Steam.exe when you have Steam on a drive other than the C: drive. Otherwise, it will just sit and spin and spin and spin forever never fully loading when you launch Steam. I don't think this video mentioned that though. Note: I also found that the Steam Shortcut on the computer desktop lost it's Steam icon afterwards... to reset the icon, right-click Steam shortcut select Properties then Change Icon and direct it to look for icons in the SteamOptimizer executable instead of the Steam executable (I do not know why, but it will take the icon from the SteamOptimizer exe but not from the Steam exe).
I just booted into my windows 7 and it signed in and is working without doing anything, its even letting me install games and play online. i9 9900k RTX 3060Ti Win7 Pro 64bit
Good work dude , but can you make a video on , how to run steam games without keep running steam client in background because it occupies much resources, so i fell laggy while playing games
and what should I do if such an error occurs : Steam - a critical error Steam cannot be started in this version of Windows from a folder whose path contains non-ASCII characters. Please reinstall Steam to the default folder or change the OS to Windows 7 or later.
Making game drivers are getting harder each year due to software not working etc Im hoping to still make game ready drivers for windoes 7 until 2027 hopefully ❤ and I'm still getting security updates until next year on October 8th
Hey everyone, right now, Steam has expected that the steam client will still run on Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 after 2024/01/01 for some time but they're unable to guarantee continued functionality after that date.
quick question when im extracting the steam vista file on a folder winrar keeps sending dianostic messages like these ! C:\Program Files (x86)\steam\steam\Steam 2023-01-26 for Vista.7z: Cannot open Steam\tenfoot esource\styles\library\externalsignup.css and only the processed bar go up%. Do you now how to resolve this issue?
its pretty dumb how companies just drop support like its truly beneficial to all... its literally our purchases i dont care what other agreement excuses they say about using that service its bullshit... i want to still use win 7 and im gonna use win 10 on my win 8.1 pc but not win 11 its also pretty much defeating the purpose of old software on steam that can be used on old OS i may also use gog more
I agree and shutting down the entire application just because "google stopped supporting is simply the worst decision a company can do. Every company that uses chromium or Google codes will also unsupport windows 7,8,8.1 Steam has been doing this since 2019 (Windows xp and Windows Vista unsupport), and now Windows 7 and Windows 8 and Windows 8.1
It's also the fact that windows 7 has no "spyware" and doesn't send your data to Microsoft (as back then in 2009 it was useless to sell your data) and right now selling users personal data is a million dollar move to every social media, company etc. Rumours also said that the reason why Google stopped supporting windows 7,8,8.1 is for everyone to upgrade to a new version of Windows to steal their data.
@@unknownscout4052 Right! Its only beneficial to them no doubt! the steam app is also buggy as hell... My steam app on my phone has trouble sending messages Images give errors and some buttons dont work plus the bloat, i have trouble connecting on steam on desktop
@@unknownscout4052 you have got to be kidding me, windows 7 does have spyware and knowing google on how terrible their company can be ik for sure thats not the reason
if i get this and buy batman blackgate on steam will it work on my windows 7 pc? does steam offer a refund if you buy a game and it doesn't play on your pc?
Hi, thank you so much . I tried it and it works but only one game is refusing to start (ETS2). I`m getting the following error message ( Euro Truck Simulator 2 cannot access Steam client. Suggested steps 1. Check that steam client is running. 2. Check that you have updated version of Steam client 3. Check that the automatic updates are enabled and the game is updated to the latest version) My game is up to date , Any suggestion on how to fix this?
I also have a game with that problem and Im very sorry to tell you that, this is the one downside of having an old Steam version is that some games rely on newer versions of steam
What should I do with the second steam? all of my games are tied to a second hard drive not a desktop, can I extract files to that hard drive instead of a desktop just so that way I will replace existing steam for the older one? instead of having 2 steams on 1 PC?
So I have a BSCS degree and am a Microsoft Windows Product Specialist with experience in every version of Windows from Win3.1 up to Windows 10 (not interested in Win 11 thus far, looks sucky to me).... I'm trying to fix Steam on a guy's massive gaming pc that runs Win 7 Ultimate, his Steam client got updated and disabled Win 7 support last month. So so far, the instructions in your video are really difficult to follow but I thought I had the jist of it, but now that I think I did everything his Steam client starts I logged him in with his username and password and then nothing but a black window with the Steam gear rotating on it and it did that all thru the night till I finally killed it earlier today. What am I missing? There was no Network activity going on, but the computer is connected to my internet and it can surf the web just fine... Steam was just sitting there though, "spinning" all night long with no network activity going on and no error message or anything. Ideas? I haven't even tried the Friends patch yet, I presumed I needed to get basic Steam functionality working again 1st before tackling that...
ps. I have my own personal computer with Win 7 Pro and since I hadn't run my Steam client since last November it's still good (I added the cfg file to it to prevent it from updating before I tested it the other day). So I have a fully functioning Steam client here at my disposal on my pc, is there anything I can do to graft it into this other gaming PC I'm trying to fix Steam on? I suggested to the gaming PC owner that I could upgrade his Win 7 to Win 10 and that would get Steam and all his games going again but he didn't like that idea and just wants it working again on his Win 7 Ultimate Edition. It seems like this should be possible, and I think I followed all the steps.... but no joy. It's really starting to piss me off! 😐
Wait! I just added that switch -cef-disable-sandbox to the shortcut to Steam.exe and that got it to work! Yay! (Yes his Steam is located on a G: drive). Now on to the Friends list patch.....
Friend's patch was far easier then it appeared... lol! Now though, many of the games already installed show up in Steam but indicate they aren't installed in the Steam client, and those that do say they are ready to Play, don't do anything when I click Play. So something not quite right still... was there something else I needed to do to get the installed games to work in the new (but old) Steam client on this machine? Steam launches and looks fully functional again finally... the games just don't do anything now.
Ok so there is a lot more that has to be done to get this all working correctly IF your Steam isn't saved to C:\Program Files apparently. The OSVer.ini has to be updated to reflect WHERE your Steam is actually located at, then it has to be placed in your /Windows folder. That seems to have made a difference. Each installed program has to have it's file integrity validated and each 1 is coming up with a single bad file which has to be "reacquired" by Steam (I'd love to know what file it is, but Steam won't tell me apparently!). And finally, when I save a Game shortcut to the Desktop, it has no game icon.... though the shortcut will run the game, but no game icon on the shortcut. I do not yet understand why that isn't working quite right.
@michaelshrader5139 Good Evening, First I have to appreciate the hard work you have done and I am sorry I couldn't have noticed you message a little bit sooner Well, I have heard you have installed the steam client on an external drive and I am not really sure with using the method I am using on a external drive.
Question the menus that need an internet connection dont load up properly they dont display the steam ui but just a basic ui do know how to solve this issue?
This video gives hope. But this method did not help me :( As soon as I start steam, a gray square with a cross on the top right just pops out and nothing else happens. (I'm on Windows 8.1).
This is a huge issue that I didn’t know about when making the video, sorry for the late realisation I was busy with life but I will find a solution this week hopefully
It's started running first time then after installing the Friends Chats fix patch it's stopped working and no internet connection appearing again and again, even after i did these steps again and again it's still not getting online on Windows 7 help me please 😭
For this method, yes But I have made another method in another video that I made that doesn't need you to re-install steam All you would need to do is to put the notepad document that I show in the video and put it in the Steam Folder This is the Video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FkSefBILDPM.htmlsi=4iSihEmEQCSK_55a
Microsoft Edge came on windows 7 update in 2019 that added Microsoft edge Discord was downloaded online, however it has unsupported windows 7 but still is usable
@@unknownscout4052 And when tried re-install stem without deleting the folder, also was same. But while there's time with unistalling the Steam (which of course also unistalled all games) and then re-installing steam then of course steam works. Only for 2 days. I guess I'll see if Steam will stop working or I just won't recive update. Like older version chromium based browers still works. Or need to try install the games that doesn't need to have steam opened to play them.
Good evening, I think you launched steam on "offline mode" when starting up steam it may have shown "Start Offline mode or retry" if it showed that message on startup a good friend of mine uploaded a video on how to fix it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-77aOzKZwEvo.html
@siroutzgd3377 I did an update video about this problem in my channel, here is the video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FkSefBILDPM.htmlsi=ymKkb33PxX31-I2S
This is very neat, but I must say, if you're still on Windows 7, or whatever. Please only use that pc for gaming, and only connected to your Wi-Fi, there are so many things that could go wrong easily if you do anything else. If you do anything else, I'd use an operating system that still gets security patches, like LMDE, which will basically work on anything, and they still get security patches.
There's nothing wrong with using Windows 7. It remains an excellent OS. How do I know this? Well because I use it every day as my main OS, while frequently repairing and cleaning family friends and local business owner's computers who have Win10 installed with all the security patches!
First, place the steam folder in C:\Program Files (x86) then once done replacing the old steam.cfg file with the new steam.cfg file then after that You can open the Steam application from the folder
Even though I am curious about the result, right now, my goal is to get this running on Windows 8, 8.1 because unfortunately I found out it didn't work as I thought it would work. I will try it though, just not right now
This may solve it for you, it's a video from a friend of mine that solved no connection error with that same steam version: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-77aOzKZwEvo.htmlsi=rVI8fS1BLHOMXO7I
@@unknownscout4052 thank you so much steam now works but store and everything shows black screen is that normal? im downloading a game right now and everything seems working
I'll tell you what worked for me Make a shortcut for steam.exe and put it on your desktop. Right click on the shortcut and add -tcp to the launch options, so it could look something like this: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steam.exe" -tcp then it should start fine from the shortcut
Yeah this method doesn't really work on windows 8/8.1 so I made a new video with a new method for windows 8 and 8.1 users to do The video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FkSefBILDPM.htmlsi=6NWaNWXfjkVbYaI_
