Loved the video....The real old money "look" depends on where someone lives. The Caribbean and European old money look different from The American old money. I think elegance, classic, and practicality suit old money. The GAP, Old Navy Jcrew, Tommy Hil and Banana Republic are inexpensive outlets for this style, they carry linen, cotton, and some other lovely pieces.

I got bussed into a posh high school where everyone else was old money. In my experience people with old money are thrifty; buy high quality, *classic* pieces; take impeccable care of them, and wear them forever. No one I grew up with had cheap/trendy pieces and/or bought multiple new pieces every season. One of my best friend's Mum had 20+ year old suits and cashmere sweaters that looked almost new and she turned heads at all the parents' events. As for Lilysilk - had to have one altered slightly and the seamstress said it was very good silk and made by someone skilled at working with silk, in her opinion.

Old money in a public school?
@sparklie962
@sparklie962 Год назад
@@susanfudge1737 haha in Canada? For sure. Loads of thrifty wealthy, old-money people don't see any reason to pay for private school when the public schools are excellent, well-funded and follow the exact same curriculum. Though to be honest, the ones in the posh neighbourhoods are greatly enhanced by having wealthy parent-advisory committees fund-raising for the latest equipment, team uniforms, extracurricular ski/travel trips etc etc. So I'm not going to try to claim that they are exactly "equal" to schools in less financially privileged areas.

I shop at thrift stores. You can find amazing pieces. Often others don’t even realize the quality is there to find. It’s a lot of fun, but you’ve gotta have a good eye and know what to look for. This video helps with that!
@drummerlovesbookworm9738

We actually go to the thrift stores in the pricey zip codes because obviously they get the donations from the area. We find more stuff and better stuff there. A lot of the big thrift chains like Goodwill now cull their really nice things and designer pieces to sell online only, which is a shame for a nonprofit. So we prefer smaller independent charity shops. In my area, the best shop in the expensive zip code is a pet rescue thrift shop because the rich people love their dogs and horses, so the neighborhood likes to donate to them. ☺

I think when we're talking about "coastal grandma", "old money", "quiet luxury" or "rich mom". we're always talking about women who want to dress more quietly (dare I say modestly?), more sustainably, get off the roundabout of having to buy constantly; to actually enjoy building a wardrobe instead of behaving (and dressing) like a hyperactive teenager with more money than sense. Though that's just my opinion. 😃 Of course, the class associations these labels are a problem, but money doesn't buy class, and people who dress well don't necessarily have money, just good taste and a clear idea of their own aesthetic.

Very accurately described. I had a supervisor who’s married to a foreigner with old money. She’s always classy, not dressy; wore the same high quality shoes and handbag 5 days a week until they needed to be replaced. It is mostly her aura and posture that I noticed. She is a life long daily swimmer therefore she stands tall and lean, no slouch or bad posture ever. She is quietly smart, doesn’t say much but when she does, it’s bullseye. Trends and fast fashion she never follows; only pieces that fit her body well in quality fabric (lots of silk, wool, cotton, and linen).

Old money "style" cannot really be forced : you are or you are not old money. They have the right posture, the right attitude, a way to interact with other people. A few more "physical" points about being old money: always neutral or pastel colors in expensive fabrics (can wear red for an evening outfit) their clothes always look new or like new usually no short dresses or skirts (only for tennis) except for the very young but shorts are ok in the summer a lot of loafers and ballet flats (only heels to events) mostly gold jewelry but always expensive looking (18 carats gold or more) shiny hair, simple haircuts, "no make up" make up look natural looking nails or variations of red (only) nail polish. I can "smell" old money by looking at a woman even if she is dressed only in a pair of jeans and a white shirt.

You're bang on that the old money yacht crowd aren't wearing flowy dresses or heels like in photo shoots on board. Those items are a genuine hazard. These folks are all over the docks with massive sailing yachts where I summer (on a much smaller boat personally, lol) and the only thing that separates them from the rest of us is the size of their boat. It's a lot of Sperry boat shoes, shorts, polos, henley pullover sweatshirts, and baseball caps. One notable thing is I see ZERO holes. No intentionally distressed or ripped clothing, no tie-dye, all just very clean and classic. I also never see tank tops. Ever. My biggest tip-off, though, is if they have staff on board. You know you're probably old money when you don't even sail your own yacht.

When I was young. I went to school with a lot of old money. I was just a poor girl from a big family. So I didn’t try to compete with any of them. I learned to just be myself and they accepted me. I live in a small house, and was raised by a working mom. Most of the old money friends mom’s didn’t work. Their husband’s made all the money. I saw some really beautiful houses by staying with them. And they were all nice. We didn’t belong to a country club. I can tell people from old money. Then the people who are new money. They want to wear labels from designers. They want to show they have money. Old money people are more discreet. I just dress like myself. I’m not trying to impress anyone. I’m one of the no money. Because I like to buy clothes, shoes and bags. I own two designer bags. And I carry one as an everyday bag. Not because I want everyone to see it. But I just like it. It’s a crossbody and I can still fit a lot of what I need in it.

We should all follow old money style in the sense that it is more affordable on the long term, more sustainable as well. SHEIN clothes will cost you a lot in a sense because you will buy a lot of them and they will most of them finish in the trash. I love classic look and I finally understand that if you limit the number of colors you own, you can mix more of the pieces together.

I agree, many of these so-called “Old Money” outfits are costumes. “Blair Waldorf”, whoever she was, is the inspiration always quoted. Real Old Money style is about the best-quality, timeless and restrained items. Rich people don’t want to draw a lot of attention to what they wear. These girls are getting the look all wrong, Old Money adults don’t wear schoolgirl uniforms, for one thing. For the Old Money style, focus on: 1. top-quality materials and construction; 2. classic, understated, timeless and simple styles, and 3. neutrals and basic colors like navy and khaki, no trendy 2023 neon tangerine or lime. It is essentially a very quiet look, not in your face or standing out. I live in one of the wealthiest counties in the world, so I know what this look really is.

Everybody should wear colors. Why? Just look at nature like trees, plants, flowers, fruits, veggies, northern sky for Aurora borealis. The problem with most people is lack of self esteem and awareness. So they dress desperately and cheaply to attract other people, men or women and look for praises and compliments from others. I have every color imaginable in my wardrobe. I do oil painting, knitting, love gardening, cooking and display fruits and veggies. Its a sight to behold! We are part of nature. One should wear structured and well fitted clothing, have some casual clothing and with the right attitude, one and anyone can pull off any dress in any color. BTW, this paper money is recent in the 20th century. Before that, people would use gold and silver coins(yellow), different gems in trade or even to buy things!!! So, let's not disrespect colors and enjoy life in all myriad forms and colors😂

Old Money Style is definitely an aesthetic, but ultimately the key to being accepted as “old money” rather than nouveau riche is. . . having old money. Growing up in this ethos is (IMO) essential to its ultimate believability. From what I understand, I think the old money style is just really very modest and respectable. This is also Indian style. I am Indian, and I see that these clothes are what Western clothes are for us. I grew up wearing Western clothes in India, and they were all like the pieces that you wore here. Our Indian stores selling western style clothes keep the modesty part in mind, I think. When I came to the US, I was looking for that style, but I realized those styles are extremely expensive here. It was a shock for me because I thought those styles are the most affordable ones. I think I now understand why they are expensive here. This style is equated with the old money style. In India, revealing things like crop tops and mini skirts or tight clothes used to be more expensive back when I grew up in India in the 2000s because they were not quite accessible to common people. Just models or actresses used to wear them to fancy parties. Interesting how the concept of clothing changes from culture to culture. Lovely video, btw.

It is all short shorts, backless shirts and crop tops. Words like elegant, polished, beautiful, graceful do not come to mind when you see them walking around. It is rare to see a girl wearing a pretty salwar kurta. The boys are not much better. Bad haircuts, long shorts, crocs. Indians are still trying hard to copy the worst of the west. That hasn’t changed.

@@ah5721very true. India was and is still known for colours when it comes to our traditional clothes but it again varies state by state. Maharashtra and south Indian attires are duller in colour and simpler in style than north. Also revealing clothes weren't so common amongst the upper class women. Today's fashion has changed a lot. With western clothes we try very hard to copy American trends.. nothing wrong with that just the problem arises when our good cotton material clothes started switching to cheaper materials like polyester and so on..

We have to remember old money has been passed down for atleast 3 generations. I would rather pass down an inheritance than look old money. Old money tends to be a sense of mind where you treat people no matter how much they make with respect. Having a high end piece usually a watch or personal piece that stands out to those that count. You usually won’t find old money in a rave or a club. They tend to not wear flashy brands. Pieces are an investment not a luxury. Usually passing on pieces that they have outgrown. Find a tailor and have them take your clothes in to have that tailored look. I’ll take the high quality, the manners, and the inheritance over the new money that is flashy and loud. I enjoy the in between because I loathe the neutrals of old as well as the loud screaming of new money. I’ll speak to both while maintaining me. 😂

The term new money and old money came directly from who u say isn't saying it....old money was calling new money-new money...they look down on those kinds of ppl bc they have the new money but not the class..anyway it would be helpful if u made a video talking about old money current examples like...Paris Hilton, her mother, her sister, the British royals...so ppl can visualize the clothes

Great video Anna - helpful with your signature style for fun! And you look amazing too - not sure whether this was just for the old money aesthetic or if it is your new style, but you look beautiful! (That's not to say you don't always look good, because you do - this was just very captivating) Xx

I have always leaned towards the more traditional, classic look with a few trends thrown in here and there. I still have beautiful sweaters that I have had for 25 years and STILL get asked where I purchased it! No logos for me!

Also, old money is not only white people or european culture, there is asian or middle eastern old money for giving a few examples. Sometimes they wear western clothing but culture is really present in their style.

For me, if I am going to wear similar colors like white or the absence of color, they need to be from the same "base" color. White is either based on blue or yellow; cool vs. warm. If you are mixing the two, it is not a good look.

I always go back to The Great Gatsby. Tom -old money drove a dark blue car, very discreetly expensive. Gatsby drove what Tom called a circus wagon. I picture a yellow Duesenberg. Definitely noveau riche. Not very Quiet or silent . But unless you’re beautiful like Caroline Bessett Kennedy-old money can look boringly stuffy and conservative!😅

According to people who have actually worked around Old Money people, they wear a lot of hand me downs, vintage designers items, or items that are couture. Many people say they look like crap a lot of times. They definitely ARE NOT wearing muted neutral tones.

Thank you for the way you present information. I just unsubscribed from another you tube fashion pair, because they were laughing and saying do this not this and not considering that everyone has different circumstances. I noticed that the negative comments outnumbered the limited good comments (so, I left). Keep doing what you are doing (being genuine & authentic).

Honestly, I think the "old money" trend is a bit silly because most of the people striving to achieve it are not old money... but they are trying to look classy and sophisticated. I wish someone would cancel the label and go back to calling this style something that is more dignified and obtainable, and not so "trying-too-hard" - ie. classy 😅

@@edennis8578 I believe you should reread my comment, as you clearly did not comprehend my point. Also, with the types of language you're using, it's clear you lack a bit of class. You have no idea how I dress, so I'm confused why you're attacking my fashion when you have no ability to see what it is. Your anger is obviously an internal issue that you should look into resolving.

The real definition of old/new money had nothing to do with clothing Lol. Old money is generations of wealth passed down. New money for instance is Justin Bieber or rihanna. In a fashion sense, people born into money are exposed to a different type of style that isn’t accessible for the average person. Although the new money person could afford that, it is not they’re style. They prefer luxury trendy pieces that screams that they have money because they are enjoying a new status.

Hi Anna you look absolutely gorgeous. Makeup and hair is like 100. I like different styles. Wore that quiet luxury in my mid 30’s when my husband was in WallStreet, and banking , going to those meetings, etc… . As i am ageing, i like variety. I love all styles, depends of my mood. I dont mind calling it quiet luxury, but talking about those old money ppl, mostly monsters ( thats just nicely said😡) i will not elaborate how i really feel …. But hopefully soon the world will know, what are they looking up, dream or worship, its absolutely …. Have a blessed day🙏💗

The old money vibe is most evident in modest dress, "buttoned-up" being more than just an expression, with the crew neckline most reliable, long sleeves, midi skirt lengths, and the omnipresent pearls, single strand, fine gold clasp. Nouveau riche, or newly rich money, tends to be the lower neckline, midriffs, wherever the exposed skin exposes the financial standing. This is my observation.

I absolutely love how you approached this topic, with which a lot of people get offended in some way. I love how you kept it neutral, you gave your opinion on both new and old money styles and the thing you mentioned about someone who has worked really hard to get a Canel bag for example, and that it is ok to carry it with pride. I personally love old money styles, but as someone pointed out here, none of them means nothing without class. ❤

So I’m very short waisted and have a very large chest. I just cannot tuck shirts in or wear a belt which makes me so sad. How else can you style a shirt and pants/skirt without looking frumpy or pregnant. Some styles like tying it up looks so cute from the front but when I turn sideways I just look huge. It creates more bulk. I do a lot of front and side tucks which work for soft clothing. If it’s a little stiff and doesn’t lay completely flat it’s just more bulk. Hoping you have some ideas or tricks I haven’t thought of. Thank you!
