Even if I was a millionare, I would stuggle to spend $250k a year without it being a waste

The best way to get it is in another country , here in mexico even the acceptance fee is a lot less ( 5 k acceptance , 4 k annual fee )

Amex looks at the overall cardmember relationship and as Brian mentioned, that does determine annual spend requirement. Type of spend does play a small role in getting an invite, ie, Media buys vs business travel and entertainment etc. Rule of thumb for personal card invite is $1 million of spend in a 2-3 year period and about $3-10 million for business card invites.

The benefits of this card definitely aren’t worth having to funnel hundreds of thousands of spend to get them.

How about a no Annual fee Black Card now that would be great. They should have one for Amex Members who are loyal for 5 years and sent a invitation to own one it would have some of the perks.
