Welcome back to the Meguiars UK RU-vid Channel!
If you are new to car care then this series called Seminar Sessions will be an easy "how to" guide on all consumer products and accessories in order to detail your car.
Today's video is all about the process of preparing your paint.
What does preparing your paint mean? Well it's going to involve a few processes and a few products but the biggest investment of time.
To kick things off, we want to be making sure that the paint has no contamination still sat on it after washing. This is where clay comes in!
Clay will remove those bonded contaminants that sit on top of the clear coat that make it feel rough to the touch.
Once you've got the paint feeling smooth we can now set about the swirl marks and light scratches you can see in direct light. To remove these we are going to use our hero product Ultimate Compound. With micro abrasive technology the Ultimate Compound gently removes those swirls from the lacquer making it look like brand new!

Thank you for this video. I've been a big fan of your products for years and always thought compound was to be applied via machine. I will definately grab myself some compound now. I've also used the clay bar for many years and love it. Always gives a glassy smooth finish. I also have to add that your products always smell great 😉. Many thanks from down under 🤓👍

Great video, very clear information, where can I get one of these shirts and a Meguires work apron? Out here in Barbados we can't just nip to the shops to get products, we can't even get clay bars, thanks in advance

Hi love watching and learning the best way of doing my cars ,but when I've clay and I swiped off its sometimes a bit cloudy, does it matter if am going to compound. Plus if I've I done the clay work ,then had a emergency to uses the car, whot the best product to use before compounding. Cheers Martin

Hey, hope you're doing well! I have decided to detail my car after feeling confident watching your videos now 😄 It's a Pearl White color hatchback. It has swirls if you look closely from an angle. I want to get a shinny smooth finish with minimal cost as I might also sell the car in a few months to upgrade. I have a few questions 😁 1. I'll clean car thoroughly, maybe use an iron remover 2. I'll Clay 3. Compound 4. Polish 5. Wax Now in my country car products are expensive as it's all import. I had a plan to do Meguires Ultimate compound, then ultimate polish and wax. It's a small car and the Wax specially is most expensive! Should I go with the Meguires White paste wax ? As it's a white color, swilrs won't be visible right. Will it be suitable to apply that directly after claying. Just 1 product? Thanks

Please explain how that glass cleaner was used on the paint after compound I’m really interested mate, is it safe to use every time ? What to use after that glass cleaner ? Maybe a ultimate detailer as final wipe down?

Just bought your system..,including electric polisher. I would like to use this on my daughters mini which has bonnet stripes, can the compound be used over decals? Would this cause damage or fading to the decal? Many thanks, really enjoy the videos that you make. 👏

whats the difference between the 2 clay bars, the quick clay and the smooth clay kit? also i just saw a video of 2 pro detailers using soapy water for lube for the clay bar? is it ok to use soapy water?

No difference in the clay other than how much is in the kit. As we mentioned in the video water is harsh and can cause marring. This is why we always use a dedicated lubricant like Quik Detailer.

Some easy thing to try is less product and making sure you are keeping the pad flat on the paint!

In this video we showed that we have removed the swirls by using the glass cleaner but you don't have to wash or do that process. The polishing oils within the wax will refine the paint further.

General rule is if you can catch your fingernail in the scratch then our products wont be the fix.

I understand wanting the lube of a detailer over just water, but in the interest of efficiency how about a drop of gold class or any decent shampoo in your water to add some glide?

Nick, I just use a Clay Mitt with loads of car shampoo with a two bucket method as well. I just did this yesterday on my car and then machined it with the compound and used Megs NXT wax which I bought ages ago. Oh and then I put collinite to seal it 👌

Instead of detailer you can use car shampoo, but some shampoos are not good for the clay. Valet Pro Citrus Bling is a good one that I could recommend. And it's got some more abilities, just check it out. Greetings from Germany!

Do you NEED to compound polish the paint after using clay? I have a 6 month old car with virtually no swirls. The paint does feel ever so slightly rough still after a hand wash. Can i just clay then wax to protect?

If it does not have any swirls and stuff of course you can. But you should use very soft clay before aplying wax, because some harder clays may damage the paint.

If the paint doesn't need Compound or Polish you can go straight in with a wax to protect. Something like our Ultimate Wax will boost gloss anyway!

Scratch X is for more localised areas like door handles and mirrors.
